(Hi guys, thank you all for reading! I can't believe this story has broken 700 reads, so crazy! Anyway, I'm so sorry for a lack of updates. Here's a new chapter that's a little different! Hope you all enjoy!)
I roll on my side, whimpering slightly as the cover leaves my shoulder allowing for chills to rush through my body.
I feel a soft touch on my shoulder. It comforts me, but I don't want to open my eyes. I knew that if I did, I would have face my reality.
I wasn't ready to do it.
Flashes of horrific scenes from the fire reappear, but I refuse to open my eyes to unsee them.
I refused to let go of a sleep that made me feel so still, numb even. I didn't want to let go of that feeling just yet.
The scenes start to fade and sleep begins to overcome my body once more. I welcome it with open arms, but just as I'm about to slip in, the soft touch returns, this time with a voice.
I reach out in a desperate effort to grab the sleep again, but this time with no luck.
I reluctantly open my eyes.
It takes a second for my eyes to readjust and see the cold, dim room I was in.
I begin to shiver as the feeling of warmth and numbness I wasn't ready for to leave, release its grip on me.
Tears spring back into my eyes, but I refuse to let them fall.
I anxiously start to hope I can find another feeling like that again.
I lay there, still, with my eyes focused on the wall in front of me.
I feel a touch, this time with no voice, and I turn my head to see Cole with his hand softly caressing my shoulder.
I don't want to refuse his touch and I stare into his blue orbs before I turn my gaze back to the wall.
He eyes me and continues his soft touch on my shoulder.
When I look back at him, he finds his voice again.
"We have to leave in a few hours. I just wanted to make sure that you were okay first."
I nod as my lips curl into some sort of half smile. "I'm okay."
He returns the half smile. "Good."
His hand leaves my shoulder and he stands up to go somewhere else.
My shoulder begins to shiver as if it's crying out for warmth.
It's then that I realize that his touch was the feeling of warmth I was anxiously hoping to find.
