Chapter 12 - yoga and yogurt

Even though Steve had reassured her with his kind words yesterday, Natasha woke up feeling anxious which was very strange to her.

Natasha Romanoff was never anxious.

After waking up to this ridiculous sensation, the spy came to the conclusion that a morning run would be necessary to get all of the nervous energy out of her system.

Steve and Pietro were most likely already running around Central Park, which would mean that Wanda would have to stay alone for a while.

Well, not alone perhaps but without a comfort person around, which meant her brother or Natasha.

The younger girl had been struggling with panic attacks a lot, since she and her brother had been rescued.

Loud noises, small spaces, even certain smells could trigger her into a paniced mess. In the beginning only Pietro had been able to handle her in such distress, always knowing what to do to break the girl out of her "mind-prison".

Whenever Natasha had spent time with the twins, she had learned by observing.

After the incident in the mall, the pair had trusted the spy enough to tell her about the techniques which seemed to help Wanda the most, understanding that Pietro would not always be around to help her.

"Maybe a workout in the gym would be a better idea...", the redhead murmured to herself, realizing that she had to stay around in case Wanda needed her.

She put on her workout clothes and headed for the gym.

On her way there she stopped by Pietro's room to see if her suspicion had been correct and the boy had really left for his run with Steve.

She found neither him nor his running shoes, which meant that she had been right. Of course she had.

Since she wasn't sure if the other Maximoff was awake already, she decided to head straight for the gym.

However, when she got there, she could tell that she would not be alone. The lights were on and the door was left open, leaving a small stripe of light on the floor through the gap.

A quick look at the clock around her wrist told her that it was 6:30. Way too early for anyone, except a certain supersoldier, to be awake.

Frowning she pushed open the door and was met with the sight of Wanda standing on her right leg with her left foot pushed against her right thigh, her eyes closed and her hands pressed together in front of her torso.

Though the brunette had headphones plugged into her ears, the spy put down her training bag as silently as possible, her eyes never leaving the younger woman.

Natasha had never seen Wanda this relaxed before and she had to admit that the sight was making her heart feel all warm and cozy.

Anxiety long forgotten, the redhead sat down on a bench near the door, watching Wanda switch her position.

Instead of standing she was now folding over her upper body so that her hands were touching the ground, stretching into a perfect triangle.

The younger woman stayed like that for several minutes before she folded over completely, her torso touching her knees.

Natasha was impressed, having never thought that Wanda was this flexible, but the brunette went through her routine with ease.

When she was finished, she unplugged her headphones and took a long sip of her water before she turned around to look at Nat with a small, almost embarrassed, smile gracing her lips.

"Morning.", she said, walking over to the redhead, before sitting down next to her. Natasha turned her head so she could look at the other woman.

"Yoga, huh?", she asked, smiling, taking notice of how Wanda's body worked it's usual tension back up.

"Yeah... Is it okay if I do that here?", the younger girl asked self-consciously.

The redheaded spy started tugging at the scrunchie which was holding the younger girl's chestnut locks together, to release some of the tension on her head.

"Yes, of course that's okay, malyshka.", the Avenger promised, watching as Wanda ran a hand through her hair, a nervous habit which she seemed to have in common with her brother.

There were a few moments of silence where they both enjoyed the comforting presence of the other.

"Does yoga help you relax?", the redhead spoke up, watching Wanda nod. "Yes. It's one of the few things I can do to clear my mind.", she explained, tugging her hair behind her ears.

Natasha smiled, always eager to listen when the brunette had the confidence to talk about herself.

"Usually I meditate afterwards to relax my muscles as well but you walked in and I didn't have any candles anyways.", the younger girl rambled, taking her scrunchie back after Nat had offered it to her. She immediately began twisting it between her fingers.

"If you want we can go to the mall and buy you some candles.", the Avenger suggested, supportive as always. Wanda turned her head to look at Nat, her green eyes giving away how touched she truly was by the redhead's interest.

She managed to offer her a real smile before she let her head drop onto the spy's shoulder. "Thank you.", she mumbled, suppressing a yawn.

"You're welcome, malyshka.", Natasha said smiling, running a hand up and down Wanda's back.

"May I ask why you're up so early, sweetie?", she decided to ask after a beat of silence, noticing Wanda stiffen ever so slightly.

"I just couldn't sleep, that's all...", the brunette answered as convincingly as she could, but still Nat was able to tell that there was more to it.

"Do you want to tell me why you weren't able to sleep?", the redhead pressed, noticing how Wanda picked up the nervous fidgeting again, twisting the black scrunchie between her delicate fingers.

After a beat of hesitation, the brunette let a heavy sigh escape her lips. "Pietro and I kind of had a fight yesterday.", she revealed, making Nat frown.

Sure the twins were teasing each other all the time but they never fought, not even jokingly.

"A fight?", the spy asked carefully. "It wasn't really a fight...", Wanda admitted and Nat could tell that she was struggling to find the right words.

Though the girl spoke English fluently there were still times, especially in the mornings, when she struggled for words or phrases, her brain still waking up and therefor moving at a snail's pace.

"Say it in sokovian, malyshka.", the redhead offered, running a hand through Wanda's chestnut curls.

"Bol to druh debata.", she said, easily slipping into her native tongue. Natasha smiled. "You were having an argument?", she asked, earning a nod from the other girl.

"What was it about?", the redheaded spy asked, making Wanda squirm slightly. "It's complicated...", she answered truthfully, suddenly very interested in her shoes.

"Was it about what we talked about yesterday?", Natasha guessed, watching the brunette closely. She once again ran a hand through her hair, getting stuck in a knot, cursing silently under her breath.

"Look, Wanda, I know that choosing someone as your legal guarding takes time. Nobody here is expecting you to make a decision this soon. We totally understand if you need time to-", the Avenger started, hoping that she was taking the right guess, when Wanda surprised them both by interrupting her tiny speech.

"We want you.", the young sokovian blurted out, her cheeks turning a slight shade of pink from embarrassment.

"Sorry, I shouldn't have prerušený (interrupted).", she mumbled, unable to look at Natasha, who actually looked absolutely floored at the revelation.

"You... You do?", she asked, still not sure if she had understood correctly. Finally, Wanda raised her head to look at the Black Widow.

"Yes, we do. We talked about it yesterday and... We want you as our legal guadian.", she answered truthfully.

"If you are okay with that, of course! We're not pressuring you or anything, I mean... You can say no, that's totally valid! I understand if you-... Sorry, I'm rambling again...", Wanda added, feeling the need to fill the silence which had taken over the atmosphere.

Before she had the chance to drown in her embarrassment, she felt strong arms pull her into a tight hug.

"Wanda, malyshka, I would love to be your legal guardian.", the redhead whispered, clearly trying to hold her own emotions at bay.

Just as Wanda returned the hug, another door on the other side of the gym opened. Pietro and Steve entered from outside, laughing about something the younger boy had said, before they took notice of the two girls hugging and froze.

"We totally just walked into something.", Pietro whispered, hoping that his sister and Natasha hadn't noticed them yet. "We should leave before it gets awkward.", he added, making Steve chuckle.

"Oh no, you're not going anywhere.", Natasha called out after she had let go of Wanda, making her way over to the boys.

The younger boy's face nearly matched the color of his hair. "I didn't do anything, I swear! Actually it was Wanda who ate your yogurt!", he told the spy, slightly scared by the way she walked over to them with fast strides.

However, as soon as she reached them by the door she pulled the older Maximoff into a tight hug, making him freeze once again.

"Uh... What?", he asked, clearly confused.

"Thank you for choosing me as your legal guadian.", the russian whispered into his ear, finally waking him up from his trance.

Carefully he returned the hug, faking annoyance as he rolled his eyes. "No need to get all emotional, dude.", he laughed.

Though he was acting cool on the outside, his mind told him that hugging Natasha was something he should do more often.

Without wanting to, he melted into her embrace, remembering how his mother used to hold him when he was younger.

Swallowing the lump in his throat, he pulled back, running a nervous hand through his hair, only for Steve to ruffle it all up again with a grin.

"Hey! Not cool, dude!", he exclaimed, shaking his head to sort out his hair, like it wasn't messy all the time anyway.

Behind him he could hear Steve chuckle.

"Excuse me.", he heard his sister say as she walked over to the group of three, having observed from a distance until now.

"I didn't eat Tasha's yogurt, that was you!", she called her brother out, crossing her arms in front of her chest.

"Well... If you look at the trash cans in your room, I'm pretty sure you'll find the empty yogurt container in there.", the older Maximoff answered with a cheeky smile on his lips while his sister gasped.

"You didn't-", she threatened, taking a step towards her twin. Pietro simply took a step back as well, laughing.

"Honestly, Wanda... You should know better than to eat other people's food.", he teased, noticing his sister's eyes turn scarlet.

"Oh damn, I should leave.", he said, choking back his own laughter, knowing that messing with his sister was always a dangerous game.

Quickly he sped out of the gym, nearly knocking over Steve who did his best to contain his laughter as well.
