Chapter 2 - "In the Attic"

The fifth day started in a rather unexpected way: the three kids were confused by the way Jeff kept staring into space every three seconds. This time, it was he who wanted to understand what was in the attic. So, he wanted to convince the other kids that they had given up. Or maybe not. Mark, until the very end, had a glimmer of hope, with his smug little smile.
So, the two went to the girls to reveal their plan to avoid the stairs. All four of them went outside to the garden, where there were many trees, but so many. It so happened that one particular tree, the largest one, connected several branches to the attic window.
Mark picked up a small, pointed stone from the ground, sharp enough to break a window. The kids climbed the tree with agility, like Agility-Man in the comics. In a flash, Mark threw the stone at the window, successfully shattering it.
The kids were careful of the broken glass and, one by one, entered through the window. They had finally managed to return to the attic.
Grandpa hadn't been alerted yet thanks to the power nap he was taking.
Now they just had to find the incriminating object.
Charlotte thought that this object was placed in a spot that the old man could not reach. Otherwise, it would have been foolish not to remove it directly. They kept searching, left and right, but found nothing. Nothing seemed to be a truly significant object... until...
Jeff spotted a piece of paper on a high shelf. There were no chairs or other ways to elevate themselves in the attic. So, the others decided to implement the "Super Human Tower" technique, climbing on each other's shoulders to reach the little note.
Jeff, at the top of the human tower, managed to grab the crumpled note. The tower collapsed. Then the kids began to read the piece of paper carefully, which said:
"Act 1: Find: a crumpled sheet;
a book about aquatic species;
a red apple.
Act 2: Trace the circle of the ritual with white chalk.
Act 3: Place all three objects inside the chalk circle.
Act 4: Recite the formula
'Επικληθέντες πράγμα'.
Act 5: Hope that it works (the most important part)."
Jeff immediately thought that it was the spell the grandfather had mentioned. The kids could manage all the acts... except for one. But they decided to take it one step at a time. First, they would get an apple from the kitchen, the book about the strange species from the grandfather's library, and they decided to use the piece of paper itself as an ingredient, to not waste any more time.
Kate, with her persuasive skills, managed to convince the grandfather to buy her a small chalkboard with chalk. Mark, with his intuition, figured out that the phrase was written in Greek. But they didn't know how to recite it.
A bit discouraged, the kids decided to sleep on it and wait for the strength of the next day.
