7. The More Bionics, The Better

━━━━━━━━━

(POV) Mr. Davenport

"Have you got it yet Leo?" I called up into the shaft. Leo sighed.

"If I got it wouldn't we be, oh I don't know, moving!" Leo yelled back. I could only see a glimpse of his face before he stood up and reached for the emergency button for the fiftieth time in the past hour.

"You know, Einstein once said trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results-"

"Meant I'm crazy? What are you getting at? You're the one that made me climb up here in the first place! And what else am I supposed to do? I just can't reach... Wait! I got it!" Leo cheered as he hit the button and we slowly started to move back up into the house. Leo hastily jumped back into the elevator before we but the ground floor. I laughed as he stumbled and regained his stance before the doors opened to reveal Tasha standing on the other side.

"Oh my gosh! Are you guys okay?" Tasha asked worriedly as she wrapped her arms around Leo. I smiled at the two. They were still so close even since they moved here to live with us... I mean me. It might just be the three of us from now on. Don't think like that! You're a brilliant scientist and a billionaire- nope I'm not that anymore- but still. Money is no match for genius, and I am truly a genius... And handsome. A handsome genius if you will.

"Yeah we're fine. Douglas blew up the lab and we got stuck in the elevator." I explained. Tasha's eyes widened as she heard my brother's name.

"I thought Douglas was frozen!" She wondered with the anger evident in her voice. I shook my head.

"He's got another bionic helping him. I should have never created that technology in the first place!" I yelled as I made my way over to the living room. Leo and Tasha followed as we all sat down on the couch.

"No. If you two wouldn't have made bionics, then there would be no Adam, Bree, or Chase. You might not have even met us." Leo stated. I nodded. That was true. I taught him well.

"You're right Leo. Speaking of which, we have to find them. Douglas is after them too. We just have to figure out where they went... And we need a place to stay." I replied as I remembered that we could no longer stay at this, wondrous, Davenport mansion.

"We can stay at my mothers." Tasha cheered happily as she jumped up and made her way upstairs.

"I don't think-"

"Let her go. We probably won't even be here the majority of the time anyway." Leo whispered as Tasha began to gather our things from upstairs. I huffed.

"Fine. But if Rose starts yelling at me about... I don't know, my hair, we are leaving." I said simply. Leo smirked as he thought of the possibilities. I rolled my eyes and looked over to see Tasha coming down the stairs with two large suitcases in her hands.

"Tasha, we're homeless. Do you really need that many bags?" I asked. Tasha stopped dead in her tracks.

"These are yours." Tasha replied simply. I nodded until a thought came to mind.

"Do you have my cashmere socks?" I asked. Leo sighed and picked up the bags before walking outside.

"Have you called your mom?" I asked. Tasha nodded.

"Yes. She'll be by in a couple minutes. Since you don't really want to stick around, why don't you go off to one of your, techy places, to find the kids. I'm really worried about them. That, and you need to get the helicopter off the roof before the bank takes it." Tasha whispered as we walked along behind Leo. I smiled and hugged my wife before turning to Leo.

"You'll be okay with your mom for a little bit while Leo and I look for them?" I asked hopefully as I patted Leo on the shoulder. Tasha nodded before Leo and I ran back over to the house. I guided Leo onto the roof where the helicopter waited. Leo smiled as we got closer.

"I am truly amazing aren't I? I have a secret helicopter that even the bank doesn't know about." I acknowledged before I heard Leo laughing.

"Actually, it's not so secret. I use it on weekends." Leo mumbled. I could feel my eyes grow wide at the realization. That's where all the fuel was going.

"Leo! Why would you- you know what, lets just go find Adam, Bree, and Chase." I replied blankly as we stepped onto the helicopter. As we rose into the air, I could see Tasha's mother pulling into the driveway. I cringed as she looked up to see the helicopter. I couldn't hear her already-

That technology just ain't good. You know back in my day-

Oh my god.

"Big D?" Leo asked, bringing me out of my thoughts. I nodded and turned to him.

"Yeah, Leo?" I asked.

"How are we going to find them if they have their GPS signals off? I mean, they could be anywhere by now. With Bree's speed and Chase's smarts... Adam would of course just be along for the ride, but you get my point." Leo ranted. He was right, the kids could be anywhere. I glanced over to see facility x coming into view. Thank god.

"Okay, Leo. Prepare for the landing." I warned as I began to pull onto the landing area. Most of the snow had melted given the fact that it was almost summer but I knew it would still be cold as we got outside.

"This way." I motioned towards the door on the nearby side of the building. I hadn't seen Dr. Evans since... Well probably since I built the facility. We had always talked on the phone and video chatted but hadn't seen each other in person for quite some time. Leo followed me inside the building to see it was exactly the way I had left it ages ago. I smiled at the work well done that had gone into plan in this beautiful work made from my genius. I am awesome.

"Donald!" Dr. Evans exclaimed as he turned the corner to see we were here. I smiled and brought him into a hug.

"Hey. How's it been up here?" I asked, trying to make conversation. I pointed over to the corner where Leo could possibly look for Adam, Bree, and Chase on the computer. He nodded and headed over without a second thought. Dr. Evans shrugged.

"Cold. It's been pretty lonely since Adam, Bree, and Chase were here. Speaking of them, where are they?" Dr. Evans asked excitedly. I could feel the smile fall from my face at the mention of my three missing kids.

"They ran away because their bionics were exposed to their principle. She had said she might call the authorities so they ran. They didn't want me getting in trouble for this... Or for them to be captured." I explained. I looked over to see Leo shaking his head. I sighed as I realized there was really nothing we could do but wait. They would eventually have to turn on their GPS signals... Wouldn't they?

"Nothing?" I asked, already knowing the answer.

"No, like I said before, they're gone. But, we can keep watch until they do turn their signals back on. Until then..." Leo left off as he motioned around the room. I frowned in confusion. What was he getting at?

"What Leo?" I asked, genuinely confused. He sighed and walked over to me.

"How else are we going to find three bionic teens without another, bionic teen, to go looking for them?" Leo finished with a smile. I shook my head quickly.

"Leo, there is absolutely no way I am making you bionic." I shot down his idea. He's broken almost all of my inventions, why would I give him bionics. Plus, this late in life, it might not work anyway. Not that I was considering it.

"Oh come on, Big D! You need someone that is going to find them fast. Douglas had a bionic, why not have a bionic on your side too?" Leo reasoned. He did make a good argument. Then again, I have trained him that way.

"I see what your getting at, Leo. But, I can't do that. There would be five bionics, the authorities would catch on." I said simply. I walked back to the kitchen to make some hot chocolate. I couldn't deal with this right now. Why would Leo even want to be bionic? He's seen how much trouble it's cause for Adam, Bree and Chase. And! He's apart of the team already. He's the mission specialist. He gets to work with me. Unlike the unlucky rest of the world. Who wouldn't want to work with someone of my genius? Seriously. I stored the hot chocolate slowly before taking a sip. I had to calm down. Douglas probably had no idea where the kids were. I would get to them first. He couldn't have them. Good always wins... Right? I shook my head before I heard my phone begin to ring. I pulled it out of my pocket to see Tasha was calling.

"Hi honey." I answered. Tasha laughed on the other side.

"Hey, have you guys found the kids yet? I'm so worried about them." Tasha asked hopefully. I sighed,, I hated having to tell everyone the had news.

"No, they turned off their GPS signals. There's no way to find them. By the way, what did you tell Rose about all of this?" I asked worriedly. Please tell me Tasha didn't tell Rose that Adam, Bree, and Chase were bionic.

"I told her that they ran away and you got all of your money stolen, which is basically what happened anyway." Tasha explained. I nodded along as she continued.

"Good, are you doing okay there? Leo and I can come back-"

"No! I want you to find Adam, Bree, and Chase! Bring them home Donald!" Tasha ordered sternly into the phone. I smiled.

"I promise. Leo and I are looking for them as we speak. We'll call you if we find anything and if we don't, you know what, we'll call you tonight anyway. I love you." I said.

"I love you too. Now, go find them." Tasha said happily before she hung up. I smiled and put my phone back into my pocket. I stared down at my hot chocolate for a second before turning to see a huge sign with a pair of legs under it. I rolled my eyes.

"Leo, what are you doing?" I asked annoyed. The sign read

Handsome is delicate
So Bionics are Needed to Protect it

"Come on Big D! At least give me a chance! I'm L Do!" Leo replied from behind the sign that was probably the size of him. I could see his feet moving in the shape of a strange dance that I'm sure went along with his nickname.

"Leo, as much as I'm sure you want this, we can't. One, I don't want to. Two, we don't have time. And three, it is extremely dangerous." I listed as we made our way back to the main room of the facility. Leo sighed and set the poster to sit up where I could still see it, before sitting down next to me.

"Fine, but I have a counter argument to go against yours. Just to let you know, it will pale in comparison to mine." Leo hinted. I rolled my eyes and sat back. It couldn't hurt.

"Go ahead." I mumbled. He nodded.

"First, you should want to. I'm your mission specialist and how can I be a specialist without ever going on a mission? Second, we have tons of time. Adam, Bree, and Chase obviously aren't going to turn on their GPS signals any time soon. And third, you're such a brilliant inventor, how could something you make be dangerous?" Leo pointed out. He was right, I am handsome, and brilliant.

"Okay, Leo. We'll give you a test run. I have a simulator that will let us see how you can handle bionics. If you can handle it, then I will give you an ability of your choice." I explained. Leo jumped up with excitement.

"Wait! I get a not so hidden ability too! I of course, don't want it to be hidden because that would just be stupid." Leo replied sternly. I nodded and pointed ahead at the simulator that held his future, or so he thought. He wasn't going to last a second in there. I really didn't want to give Leo bionics. There was no way he would prove me wrong. I am a genius.
