Chapter 6 - Wishing to Forget

6. Wishing To Forget
━━━━━━━━━
(POV) Bree
We ran, and we kept running. I used my super speed to get us to LA within minutes. But now, we didn't know where to go. Chase was able to find 200 dollars in our mission bags in case of emergency, but that was it. We had no idea where to stay. We roamed the streets aimlessly until I got an idea.
"Guys. We can just stay in a foreclosed apartment." I suggested. Chase smiled and nodded as Adam stood there with a confused look on his face. I shook my head and looked to Chase for the explanation.
"Let me simplify the situation for you. Someone got kicked out of their house and now we are going to stay in it without anyone knowing." Chase explained. Adam laughed with excitement as Chase scanned the area for an apartment. For some reason I continued to look ahead at a particular building. I had never seen it before. Chase smiled as he picked up the information.
"Alright. There's one over there." Chase said with a smile. Low and behold, the place was in the same building I had been watching for he past ten minutes. I nodded and followed chase over to the building. We walked inside and made our way up to the top floor where we stopped at 13c. This place felt familiar. Chase used his magnetism app to manipulate the lock until it clicked open. We walked inside to see the place was fully furnished and had a kitchen, bathroom, and one bedroom. In the living room there were two couched set across from each other. Chase walked into the adjacent kitchen to see that there was still running water. I breathed a sigh of relief as I realized we would be able to shower. Chase jumped up to sit in the counter while Adam made his way down the hall.
"I call the bedroom! There's a freaking water bed! This is the shit!" Adam yelled as we heard him leap onto the bed. I rolled my eyes and walked over to Chase. I took a seat on the counter next to him.
"What do we do now?" I asked, hoping he would have thought this out. I needed some confirmation, I felt so unsure of all of this.
"We wait. We stay here until the inevitable happens and we have to leave. Then we find another place until we have enough money to actually get out our place. Then we change our names, dye our hair, and stay out of sight." Chase teased with a smile. I laughed as I pictured Chase with blond or black hair. It just wasn't natural.
"Well, it's almost dinner. Do you want me to super speed to the store and pick up something without being notice?" I asked as I jumped off the counter. Chase frowned as he thought of the outcomes.
"I don't know Bree-" He started, but I was already off. I picked up as much as I could carry and was back in the apartment within ten seconds. Chase had a smile on his face as he walked around to close the door for me. He locked it and turned to help me open the boxes. We decided on sandwiches since it seemed easiest. I fixed up the Adam special, everything and anything you can fit between tow slices of bread, and I brought it back to him. Adam was sound asleep on the bed so I set it down on the night stand. I smiled back out of the room and closed the door behind me. As I walked out into the main area, I saw Chase setting our plates down on the coffee table in the living room. I smiled and joined him on one of the couches.
"Thank you." I whispered as he took a bite. We both knew if we made a sound it would wake Adam up, and right now we needed to strategize. We wouldn't do that with Adam interrupting every good idea we may come up with. Chase smiled.
"Your welcome. And thank you for breaking the law to get us food." Chase whispered with a smirk. I laughed quietly as I looked over to see him staring at me. Maybe Marcus was right, Chase did love me.
"Chase." I started as the memory washed back. He looked down worriedly at me.
"What's wrong?" He whispered as he brought me closer.
I walked calmly into chemistry and set my bag down in the seat next to me. I knew Marcus had switched into this Chemistry class since he and Leo weren't on good terms, so I thought we could sit together. Caitlyn wasn't in this class with me anyway so I didn't really have any friends to sit with. I took out my notebook and began to write down the lab. I looked up to see Marcus walking towards me. I smiled as he stopped by the desk.
"M dog! I was saving a seat for you!" I said happily. I knew Adam and Chase hung around with Marcus so I thought I would try to start a friendship with him as well. He took his seat next to me and our knees touched. We both looked down, and when we looked up, our eyes locked. I had no idea where this was headed. Marcus had a look in his eye that I had only ever seen in two others: Ethan and Chase.
"Thanks Bree." I blushed as I moved away from him. I didn't want him getting the wrong idea. It seemed as if Marcus has always had a thing for me, and I just wanted to be friends.
"You're welcome. I know how hard it is to start at a new school, where no one knows you..." I started, but Marcus took over.
"Or cares to know you." Marcus mumbled. I frowned in sympathy. I knew exactly what that felt like, I still do. The three of us had been here for almost a year now and kids still didn't know our names. They call Chase, Chip Davenport for gods sake.
"Listen... Marcus, do you want to meet up after school?" I asked, trying to lighten the mood. It seemed like our conversation had taken a dark turn. Marcus placed his arms on the desk and leaned in closer.
"Is Chase going to be there?" Marcus asked with certainty. I could feel a look of confusion creeping onto my face. Did they get into a right or something? Marcus has been avoiding Chase at all costs lately.
"Umm... no. I was thinking it'd just be me and you." I answered warily. He smiled instantly and calmed down.
"Alright. That sounds cool." He said as the teacher began to Show us the lab. I sighed as I thought about our meeting after school. I actually wasn't looking forward to this.
********************************************
I walked out of class with Leo. We had art together at the end of the day which just so happened to be near my locker. I looked over to see Marcus already waiting for me. Did this kid have a release or something? I panicked so I decided to get rid of Leo. If Leo saw Marcus he would probably tell Chase... What am I saying?
"I have to stay after school to work on a chemistry project. I'll meet you guys at home in a few." Leo nodded until he saw Marcus at my locker. He held me back glaring at him. I sighed and tried to break free. I wanted so badly to tell him I wasn't looking forward to this but I felt bad for the kid. I had to play this off cool.
"Wait you have chemistry with Marcus?" Leo asked as I broke free. I rolled my eyes and patted him on the head for good measure. Marcus couldn't suspect a thing, and neither could Leo.
"I know that." I said sarcastically as I turned and walked towards Marcus, who was ignoring Leo's attempts to get me away from him.
"No, don't go! Marcus is evil!" Leo yelled. I took Marcus' arm as we walked away. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Marcus wave at Leo. Leo sighed and walked away, sadly, leaving us alone in the lobby by the cafeteria. I looked back, waiting for him to walk through the door. Leo wouldn't leave me with Marcus... would he? Marcus laughed as he saw Leo walk down the steps leading to freedom. I laughed along as we sat at the circle bench in the center of the lobby.
"Finally. Alone." Marcus said. I rolled my eyes and punched him softly on the arm. Yep, just like I thought, he had absolutely no muscle. Muscle... That's what I wanted to ask him about. Not his muscle but, the way he's treating my brother.
"That reminds me of what I wanted to talk to you about." I started. He smiled and turned to me. Great, there's that creepy glimpse in his eyes. On Chase it looks cute and endearing though... Again! What am I saying?
"What do you mean." Marcus stated as he moved his eyebrows into that weird stare thing he does with Leo. This kid. I shook my head and continued.
"Well, obviously Leo doesn't like you, while Adam, Chase, and I do like you. But, for some reason you don't like Chase." I explained as he deepened his stare at me.
"What are you getting at?" Marcus asked warily as I took a breath.
"I've been trying to find a way to say this without making you mad at me, but now I'm just going to say it. Why do you hate Chase? I've noticed that every time we plan to hang out anymore you're always asking if Chase is going to be there." I pointed out. Marcus looked away momentarily before turning back to me, trying to brush it off.
"Bree, it's a general wondering. That doesn't mean I hate the guy." Marcus said simply. This kid must be a pathological lier or something. I literally just caught him in a lie and he's still rolling with it.
"Oh really? Because the other day, I saw you glaring at him..." I left off trying to see his reaction. He began to fidget with his backpack.
"I...I had something in my eye, it was really dusty that day. Is that a crime?!" He asked worriedly. I stood up calmly, and set my hand on his shoulder.
"You didn't let me finish. Just yesterday Chase was being extremely nice to you, and he asked you if you wanted to go to the mall with him..." I left off. He continued to look down at his feet as he stumbled with his words.
"...and I said I was busy after school with homework." Marcus mumbled. I shook my head.
"But you weren't... I saw you skateboarding at the park while Chase and I were going up the escalator at the mall." He looked up at me with anger in his eyes. I took my hand off his shoulder and backed up a step. He breathed out before walking off towards the door. I sighed.
"Marcus wait! Just tell me why. I promise I won't tell Chase, I won't tell anybody." I said reassuringly. He stopped but refused to face me.
"You want to why? You want to know why I hate Chase?" He took a deep breath still not facing me. I was almost afraid to see his facial expression as he told me what he had to.
"It's because of you." He said clearly. I stood back. What did he mean?
"Me?" I whispered.
"Listen, Bree. I know you and Chase aren't related..." He stated simply as he spun on his heel to face me. He paused to watch me. Not related? What did he mean? Did he mean that we were all adopted? Did he mean... Did that mean I did have feelings for Chase? And that those feelings could actually be acted upon?
"...and I know that he is completely in love with you." As Marcus said those last words, I could feel my face heat up. Chase felt the same way I did?
"Every time he looks at you, there's so much love and passion. It kills me on the inside knowing that he loves you the way he does." Marcus finished his spiel. I shook my head. Why would it kill him?
"Marcus what are you saying?" I asked as I threw my hands up in annoyance. He slowly walked over to me with a look of determination in his eyes.
"I'm saying, that I love you." Marcus finished. I wanted so badly to ask a million questions. I had no answers. All this conversation did was raise more questions about my background, and his. He raised his hand and left it resting on my check. I frowned in confusion. He couldn't do this.
"Marcus..." I tried but he quickly placed his fingers over my lips.
"Shhh. Don't speak." Marcus whispered as he moved closer. He closed the gap between us and began to kiss me while I stood motionless. He slid his hands down until he reached my waist. I had no choice but to kiss him back. He just poured his heart and soul out to me. You had to feel bad for the kid. Marcus seemed to get the wrong idea though. He moved his hands around to my lower back and pulled me closer to him. You literally couldn't fit a paper between the two of us... And I was not okay with that. I moved my hands onto his chest. He seemed to sense I was going to pull away, so he took things to a newer, creepier level. He pulled his shirt off quickly and within seconds he went back to groping me. He grabbed me again, kissing me, while moving his hands lower, and lower. There was only one way to stop this since the subtle card wasn't doing the trick. So, I did what any other teenage girl would do, I slapped him. He ripped himself away from me as he rubbed his check which still held a red tint to it.
"Marcus stop." I said. He rolled his eyes and continued to move his hands to my lower chest. At that moment, I knew that playing nice was getting me no where. He was really crossing the line now. I did not want his little creeper hands feeling me up in the middle of the school lobby, or anywhere else for that matter. I pushed him as hard as I could. Within seconds he fell to the ground with a crack. I cringed as I saw his arm snap in half. He cried as he brought his arm in closer.
"MARCUS STOP! What were you going to do?! Rape me?!" I yelled. I could feel the tears streaming down my face as I gasped for air. He looked to be at a loss for words. I wrapped my arms around myself as I tried to remove the feeling of his hands on me. His eyes lit up as he finally found the words.
"Consensual! It's not rape if it's consensual!" He yelled out at me. I was probably making the stupidest face in the world, but I couldn't have cared less. What kind of person says that?
"Are you kidding me?! I slapped you! That sure as hell doesn't give you permission to sexually violate me! And by all means, that was not anywhere near consensual. You'd have to be crazy to think that I would actually go along with that!" I yelled. I was so mad, but it wasn't showing. My voice was still wavering as the tears ran down my face.
"But you were kissing me back!" He stated. I sighed.
"I was kissing back, because I felt sorry for you! I didn't think you were going to take it this far!" I shouted. His eyes widened at the realization that I did not have any intention of shacking it up with him.
"I thought you loved me!" He said dramatically. I rolled my eyes. That escalated quickly. Yes, Marcus. Love includes forcing someone into sex only to leave one crying and shaking to the point where they can't talk, and the other with a broken arm. I sighed as one person popped into my head. I knew only one person could make me feel better. And at that moment, I was able to think clearly.
"No...I... I love... I love Chase." I said simply. I did. I was in love with Chase. No doubt about it. The entire time I was with Marcus, all I could think about was how Chase could save me. Chase wouldn't do something like this to me. I needed Chase.
"So much blood." Marcus said. I rolled my eyes, picked up his shirt, and threw it at him. I guess luck was on my side. I didn't get raped and I was able to hit Marcus in the face with his stupid shirt. I was still crying, but now, I was shaking with anger.
"Use that you creep." I ran out the door, sobbing. As I reached the street, I began to run. I used my super speed to get home in a mater of seconds. I slammed the door shut behind me as I closed my eyes and leaned against the door to caught my breath. My face was soaked with tears and the shaking was getting worse. I took a deep breath and opened my eyes to see Chase standing up from the couch and rushing over to me. I had been trying to hold it in before, but the second I saw Chase, I lost it. He ran over to me and wrapped his arms around my waist. I flung my arms around his shoulders and cried. I cried until I couldn't even make a sound. I was still shaking but Chase was holding me. As I started to calm down, Chase picked me up bridal style and carried me up to my old room. He sat us down on the small couch with me in his lap.
"Are you okay?" He whispered worriedly. I shook my head and buried my head in the crook of his neck. He wrapped his arms around me again and waited patiently for me to explain. I couldn't keep this in any longer.
"Marcus tried to rape me. I stayed after school with him to see why he's been ditching you lately and he... He just kept touching me... Everywhere. So I slapped him. But then he kept going so I pushed him down and now he's lying on the floor of the school with a broken arm." I ranted as the sobs began to escape me again. I couldn't tell Chase we kissed. Chase's eye began to turn from brown to black as I could see Spike coming.
"No! No! Chase please come back!" I cried as Spike appeared. He rubbed my back calmly before speaking.
"Chase is still here cupcake. But Chase is too scared to hurt this punk! That's where I come in." Spike said confidently. I sighed and wrapped my arms around Chase's neck.
"Well I already hurt him. He was bleeding and is probably almost dead right now because I broke his arm. Chase doesn't need to hurt him. The only think I need Chase to do right now, is come back." I whispered as I felt the tears stream down my face. Spike nodded and closed his eyes as he calmed himself down. I smiled and moved closer to kiss Chase on the cheek. Chase jumped back as he looked to see me millimeters from him.
"Bree?" He whispered. I laughed and brought him into a hug.
"Thank you, Chase." I whispered. Chase laughed and wrapped his arms around me. I smiled into his chest.
"I'm still going to bury him." Chase said simply. I could feel my smile grow wider.
"And I'm not going to fight you on that."
"It's just... Remember that time... That I came home and..." I left off hoping Chase would get the idea. I hated reliving that.
"Yes, Bree. It's okay, you don't have to tell me again." Chase whispered as he rubbed my back. I sighed, this was it, I had to tell him.
"Marcus said that he loved me." I whispered. Chase's hand stopped moving across my back. He slowly moved away from me and sat in his own thoughts. I was about to speak when he finally said something.
"He said he loved you... But he tried to rape you." Chase stated simply. I shook my head as I turned to face him.
"He thought that I wanted it for some reason. I slapped him but he kept going and then-"
"Then you broke his arm and he disappeared from school for a month. Then we had to face off and we killed him. End of story." Chase mumbled as he stood and brought his plate to the kitchen. I threw my head back and followed him. Chase stood at the sink with his hands gripping the sides of the counter. I moved around him and placed my plate in the sink along with his before wrapping my arms around his waist. He stiffened as he realized what I was trying to do.
"You know why I slapped him? Do you know why I broke his arm? Or why I was even there in the first place?" I whispered. Chase sighed and turned to face me. He moved so my arms fell to my sides and he crossed his over his chest.
"Why?" Chase hissed.
"Because of you. I was there to see why he was ditching you. You were upset about the way he was treating you, so I stayed after school with him. I slapped him and broke his arm, not only because I didn't want it, but because it wasn't you. I wanted to be there with you Chase." I whispered. As I continued, his face slowly softened. A smiled threatened to turn up on his face as he heard me say those last words.
"When he told me he loved me... I told him I couldn't love him... Because I already loved someone. I love you, Chase." I finished. He smiled brightly as he wrapped his arms around my waist. He quickly lifted me of the ground and spun us around before setting me down and watching me closely.
"I'm in love with you Bree." Chase whispered as he lowered his face to mine. I could feel a smile creep onto my face as he got even closer. Chase slowly closed the gap between us and kissed me. I smiled as I wrapped my arms around his neck. He brought me in closer to him by my waist. The bedroom door opened and Chase and I jumped away from each other. I quickly hoped onto the counter while Chase pretended to do the dishes.
"Thanks for the sandwich, Bree. It was amazing." Adam exclaimed as he threw the plate at Chase. Chase turned just in time to catch it before we made too much noise. Adam laughed.
"Wait... What's going on in her?" Adam asked warily as he motioned between Chase and I. I could feel a nervous smile coming on as Chase began to laugh uncontrollably.
"What are you talking about? Something going on?" Chase started.
"Yeah, we were just-"
"Hiding the cookies is what it looks like! You could have shared!" Adam said as he took a cookie out of the box. He laughed and made his way to the bathroom. Chase and I kept quiet until we heard the water turn on. I sighed and made my way over to Chase. The room was completely dark except for the light in the corner of the living room. It as 8 o' clock now.
"That was close." Chase whispered with a smirk.
"Adam doesn't know we're not related?" I asked with a smile. If no one knew, we could keep this going for a while. Chase nodded and led me back over to the couch.
"How did you find out anyway?" Chase asked. I sighed and began.
"Marcus told me. He said that he hated how much you loved me because he loved me too." I explained. Chase nodded and turned to face me.
"Just to keep you in the loop, Douglas is your father, and Adam's father is Mr. Davenport. You two are cousins. As far as I know, they took me out of the nursery when I was born." Chase explained. I smiled as I realized that I at least had one real family member. Not that I was complaining, I was ecstatic that Chase and I weren't related.
"So what do we do now?" I asked as Chase looked over to me. He sighed and rose form the couch. He walked down the hallway and came back with two blankets, and two pillows.
"We wait, and see what happens." He said simply as he handed me a blanket and pillow. he walked around the coffee table and made a bed on the other couch. I sighed as he turned off the light and the water in the bathroom turned off. This was so weird, not sleeping in our capsules, actually showering. Adam seemed so used to it already but I was still adjusting and from the looks of it, Chase was too. Chase. I finally had him... for the most part.
Adam made his way out of the bathroom and walked down the hall to the bedroom. He quickly fell asleep; I could tell by the snoring coming from his room. I turned to stare at the wall until I heard Chase snoring quietly as well. I smiled. I could probably get used to this.
I jumped as I heard something drop in the apartment next to ours. I followed the sound with my ears and saw a small hole with light shinning through. I frowned in confusion. Had they been watching us? I shook the thought away. Ever since Douglas and Marcus had been watching us, I had been paranoid. The only thing that bothered me about that hole, was the fact that it just popped up. The lights had been off for a good ten minutes now and all of a sudden the light showed up right after the object dropped next door. I sighed and closed my eyes. Before I knew it, I was asleep.
