14. The Darkest Fall The Hardest
━━━━━━━━━
(POV) Chase
I held up my hands as he pulled the trigger. Bree raced over and pulled Adam behind me as the ray flew at us, my forcefield holding it back just as it was about to hit. I smirked as I let my hands fall to my sides.
"Did you really think it would be that easy?" I taunted as I raced forward, using my molecular kinesis to pull the ray gun out of his grasp. It flew off and smacked into a tree before it fell to the ground in pieces. I watched as Douglas reached behind him once more, attempting to get Maecus' help. He frowned as he spun around and looked to his android.
"You're just going to leave your creator hanging like that?" He yelled as he spun around to face him. I rolled my eyes as Marcus held up his hands in defense.
"Weren't you the one who instructed me not to bring any weapons." He asked sarcastically. Douglas groaned loudly before looking back to us.
"Alright, you three win. What do you want? More answers?" Douglas yelled, the anger sort ten all over him as he clenched his fists at his sides. Marcus nodded surely before coming over to his side, gripping his arm with full force before pulling him away with his speed.
"Come on!" Bree yelled as she reached out and took my hand in her own, and and raced off along eith Adam and I. Marcus ran along with Douglas screaming at his side. He and his brother were too much alike. It had always perplexed me why the two hadnt gotten along. Other than the fact that he was a diabolical maniac and had planned to use is as bionic soldiers this whole time. Yeah... Never mind, he's crazy.
"Marcus!" Douglas yelled as he beat into Marcus' chest quickly. Marcus rolled his eyes and speed on the though the woods. I clutched Bree's hand tighter as I felt a flash at my side.
"What was that?" I asked as we stopped, Marcus stopped, seeing it too.
"Who was that?" Marcus called, knowing he and Bree were the only ones that could move that fast. I turned around once more, looking from side to side as I tired to figure it out. Things weren't adding up, and that was rare for me.
"Or, what, was it? Think logically, Marcus. That couldn't have been a person." Douglas countered as he crossed his arms over his chest. We stood in silence as the pieces still sat jumbled up in my head. I tried and tried to out them together, still drawing a blank. I turned to look at Bree as she set her hand on my shoulder.
"Did you see that?" Bree whispered, her reaching quickening as she pointed to the closest tree, one of which was still about ten feet away. I shook my head as I looked back. Not seeing a thing. I pulled up my thermal scanner to see if it was indeed a human that had been with us. That would mean there was another bionic among us. My eyes almost popped out of my scull as it read hot. There was someone watching us.
"Who's there!" I yelled, the anger flooding through me as I took a step forward. If someone did end up telling our bionic secret to the world, we would be stuck on the run far longer than we had planned. We had thought after we had been rid of Douglas, we could return home, no problems. But this, could change verything.
"Chase, it can't be a human." Douglas tried once more. I rolled my eyes, turning to face my adoptive father.
"Did you implant bionics into anyone else?" I hissed through my teeth, hating even looking at him. He took a step back, Marcus holding him forward as they both knew I needed an answer.
"No! Why would I do that! That's what Marcus was for!"
"Well, there is a person over there, with bionics! How else did they her them!" I whispered harshly. Bree took hold of my arm and Adam's alike, motioning for Marcus to do the same with Douglas.
"Lets get out of here." She whispered before pulling us out. I glanced to the side, seeing someone racing towards us.
"Can you two go any faster!" I yelled, seeing them drawing nearer and nearer. Bree shook her head.
"No! I'll overload my chip!" She cried, already sound exhausted. I sighed and looked over, seeing Leo and Davenport racing towards us. I shook my head, not even letting it register in my mind as I looked back to Bree. My eyes widened as I pulled for her to stop. She stopped with a jolt before the two in mention stood before us, a bright and happy Leo as well.
"What?" I wondered aloud, giving up on anything I had been thing to do. He had given Leo bionics.
"In my defense, you three could have been dead." Davenport tried as he payed Leo on the shoulder. I huffed out a breathe as I looked around to see we were at the cliff. Perfect timing.
"Donny!" Douglas yelled as he stomped over, Marcus walking over to stand next to us in the process.
"Hey Leo." Marcus called as he waved. Leo shook his head.
"What do you want Marcus?" Leo snapped, crossing his arms over his chest in anger at seeing his enemy of the last few months before him. Marcus sighed, looking to us for help.
"He's on our side, Leo." Bree tried, a genuine look taking over her face.
"What!" Douglas and Davenport exclaimed as Douglas turned around to face us.
"You double crossed me!" Douglas yelled in aggravation as he glared down at his creation. Marcus nodded, storming over before swiftly throwing a punch into Douglas' stomach.
"Shocker. I only saved you, so I could get rid of you myself. Sorry, Chase. But he's better off dead than frozen in a block of ice." Marcus snipped Douglas' way. I nodded, knowing it was true. What I had done was only a temporary fix.
"By all means." I agreed, a small smile taking over my face as I watched Bree laugh lightly. Marcus had some serious hate built up, not that I blamed him. I would be pretty pissed if I had found out I was an android as well.
"So wait, you three teamed up with Marcus!" Davenport yelled worriedly before Maecus picked up Douglas by his, scarily, skin right shirt and threw him over to the edge of the cliff.
"Yep." The four of us said in union before Bree raced over to Leo's side.
"You're bionic?" Bree asked happily as she pulled Leo into a hug.
"I am, and that means I can finally give Marcus what he deserves." Leo mumbled angrily before speeding over and puling Marcus back from his ultimate plan of killing Douglas. Davenport smiled as he raced over, shoving his foot hard into his brothers back as he held him to the ground.
"Donny! Wait! I can explain!" Douglas cried as his left hand dangled off the side of the ledge. I watched intently before hearing a loud crash and vaguely seeing a flashing light. I spun around to see Leo held a fire ball and was throwing it Marcus' way. Marcus scoffed as he put up a forcefield.
"You don't need to do this Leo." Marcus called, a knowing tone to his voice. Leo shook his head.
"After all the times you've tried to kill me, I think I do." Leo countered as he disappeared momentarily. He popped back up as Marcus' side before shoving him to the ground. I rolled my eyes and looked back to the scene behind us. Bree watched with interest as Douglas grabbed into Davenport's leg and pulled himself back up.
He stood happily as an evil laugh escaped his lips, "Haha! You can't get rid of me that easy, Donny!" Davenport rolled his eyes as he lunged forward, pushing his brother closer to the edge before latching onto his shirt, holding him just above the path to his death.
"Yes, it really is. I hope you have the worse ending imaginable after what you've done to this family. What you've done to me. Goodbye, Douglas." Davenport released his hands from his brothers shirt, leaving him to stumble back and begin to fall. My eyes widened as I stopped breathing. Davenport had pushed Douglas to his death. I raced over along with Adam and Bree as we watched Douglas fall the two hundred foot drop of the canyon. Bree snatched into my arm, yanking me to her side as she began to shake with fear. I never thought any of us would have to watch someone die, but as my bionic hearing picked up the loud thud of her father's body smacking into the ground, I knew he was gone. Bree hid her face in my chest as I wrapped my arms tightly around her, not letting anyone head the small son that escaped her lips. When Marcus had mentioned we would be eliminating Douglas tonight, I could see the hesitancy written all over her. I could even hear it as we whispered each other to sleep last night. She was frightened to say the least.
"Leo! Stop!" Marcus groaned suddenly. I could hear the robotics suddenly behind his voice, it was eery to say the least. I spun around, attaching my hand to Bree's in the process. I looked to see Leo held Marcus to the ground as his metallic body began to move slower and slower.
"Leo, no! Marcus is drying!" Bree cried as she ran to his side.
"Mr. Davenport! You have to get him into another body! Can't you do that!" Bree yelled as the tears began streaming down her face.
"It was a good plan Bree. But I can't hold on much longer." Marcus squeaked, his voice coming out in buffs as he tried to keep going. Leo stepped back as he watched the scene.
"I can geoleap us over to facility x, but what body would Marcus take over?" Leo tried, looking more worried than I had ever seen him before. I don't think he had any idea of what Maecus had been up against this whole time. He was dying as we spoke.
"We can figure all that out when we get there, but right now just to!" Davenport yelled as he raced to our side. We clung together as Leo started up his bionics, pulling us from LA within seconds.
