Chapter 8

¤Night; Jan 4, 2009
The abandoned observatory
Mt. Alliance¤

"Brother!" The girl called out to Aaron. Aaron grabbed his dagger, jumping up and away from Aphmau and throwing the dagger behind him.

"A-Aleena?!" The girl ran right past the helpless Aphmau, who was still on the floor, lying there. The girl jumped into Aaron, hugging him.

"Oh, I finally found you!" The girl smiled, ignoring Aphmau completely.

"Aleena, what are doing here?! You went down the mountain!" Aaron questioned her, still in shock.

"Well, I climbed back up, silly. Heehee!" Aleena turned and noticed Aphmau on the floor, she was now sitting up, but still had tears in her eyes.

"Who's this?" Aleena asked. Aaron immediately moved in front of Aleena so that she couldn't see Aphmau anymore.

"No one! She's nobody." Aaron blocked Aleena, despite her best efforts to get past him.

"Brother, c'mon! I wanna see her! I haven't met another human girl in a long time..." Aleena pouted slightly.

"What makes you think she's human? She's pretty monstrous to me..." Aaron muttered the last part under his breath, but Aleena ignored him and ran right past him to Aphmau.

"Well, you must like her if you were kissing her--- WAIT! Oh brother, you don't have to hide things from me!" Aleena yelled in joy. Aaron looked at her, confused.

"I'm so proud of you, brother! You've found a new girlfriend!" Aleena said in joy. Both Aphmau and Aaron's eyes widened.

"W-What?! She's not my--"

"I'm so happy!!! I'm gonna have a sister-in-law!" Aleena cut Aaron off, squeaking and fangirling.

"Aleena! She isn't my girlfriend!" Aaron yelled, starting to get annoyed.

"Brother, you don't have to hide it from me! I know you might be embarressed and still getting used to being in a relationship again, but its nothing to be ashamed or embarressed of!

"But I--" Aaron was cut off iince again.

"Now tell me, sis! What's your name?" Aleena asked Aphmau, bending down to her. Aphmau looked at her for a moment.

"U-Um..." Aphmau didn't answer, but looked away, trying to keep Aaron out of her view.

"Aw, c'mon! Don't be shy! You can trust me. I'm Brother's sister, after all!" Aleena tried to comfort Aphmau.

"Oh, you're this lunatic's sister? Is that supposed to make me feel better? BECAUSE IT DOESN'T!" Aphmau was starting to feel anger at Aaron, but kept it to herself. She didn't want to tick him off.

"M-My name's Aphmau..." She finally answered Aleena.

"Aphmau? What a unique name!" Aleena grabbed her brothers hand and started dragging him over to Aphmau. Surprisingly, despite his best efforts to stop her, she dragged him over with ease. She pushed him down and He fell on top of Aphmau, looming over her. Aphmau shut her eyes tight, looking away. Aaron got off her, sitting next to her and looking up at Aleena.

"Aleena, what the---"

"AAAACK!! You two are just adorable!" Aleena cut Aaron off... again.

"I wish I had one of those tiny boxes that people take pictures with..." Aleena made a frame with her figures, pointing it at Aphmau and Aaron.

"You mean a camera?" Aaron said, unamused.

"Yea, that!" Aleena nodded at him.

"Aphmau, what's wrong?" Aleena said, Aphmau opened her eyes and looked but closed them immediately when she saw Aaron. Aaron rolled his eyes and Aleena looked confused. Aaron suddenly got an idea.

"Aleena isn't going to give up on the idea that we're dating... so why don't I humor her..." Aaron smirked and wrapped his arm around Aphmau, forcing her back against his chest. Aphmau flinched and opened her eyes wide, not able to see Aaron. Aleena was jumping up and down in joy. Aaron leaned Aphmau back, holding the back of her head with his right hand, shaking off the pain. Aaron leaned in and kissed Aphmau, the back of his head facing Aleena so she couldn't see.

"EEEEEK!!! SO CUTE!!" Aleena squealed again, fangirling. Aaron only held Aphmau tighter and closer as she tried to push him off. Aleena didn't notice her fighting against Aaron because she was too busy jumping around screaming.

Aphmau tangled her hand in Aaron's hair, pulling his head back. He groaned and finally gave in, pulling away from Aphmau. She quickly moved away from him, looking shocked. Aaron just stared at her, smirking. Aleena finally brought herself back into reality.

"Heehee! So, Aphmau, how did you get here and find Aaron?" Aleena asked. Aphmau's eyes widened and so did Aaron's.

"Uuuuhh...." Aphmau didn't know what to say.

"Oh, it doesn't matter! As long as brother is happy, then I'm happy!" Aleena smiled. Aphmau sighed in relief.

"I still can't believe you came up the mountain at this time..." Aaron said. Aleena ignored him. Aaron tried to get up, but failed because of his arm. Aleena offered him her hand. Aaron took it and Aleena pulled him up.

"Well, brother... I hate to ask... but can I stay with you for a bit? I think it's a bad idea to travel right now. The village is just so depressing and sad for some reason." Aleena asked. Aphmau widened her eyes.

"Oh no... mom..." Aphmau looked down, crying. Aaron whispered to Aleena and she nodded. She climbed the balcony opposite of where Aaron's side was.

"Aphmau?" Aaron sounded sympathetic and concerned, but Aphmau didn't trust him.

"I have to go back..." Aphmau muttered to herself.

"What?" Aaron walked closer so he was only inches away from Aphmau.

"I-I have to go back!" Aphmau pushed Aaron away and ran towards the door. Aaron stood watching her.

"Maybe I should let her at least see the sky again..." Aaron watched her leave the observatory.

When Aphmau walked outside, she felt refreshed. The wind blowing, the moon and stars shining. Aphmau stood there, staring down at her village. She felt tears roll down her cheeks.

"I'm too weak... how can I make it down...?"

"Enjoying the view?" Aaron walked up behind her. She whipped around, backing up. Aaron was just watching her. His eyes were full of sympathy. Aphmau looked down the mountain to her village again.

"Brother! Look! I got these from the village. Aleena came out with a tray. The tray has sandwiches and cans of soda.

"Aleena, you didn't have to. I was planning on going hunting." Aaron said. Aphmau didn't realize it with all the drama going on, but she was starving. Aphmau was drooling a little.

"Heeheehee! I think sis is hungry." Aleena said. Aaron looked at the drooling Aphmau.

"Heh. Well, I think we should go ahead and eat inside. It's getting late." Aaron walked Iiver to Aphmau. She snapped out of her food trance, looking at Aaron. Aaron grabbed her hand and walked her inside. Aphmau blushed a little bit, but then focused on eating.

After they ate, Aphmau felt like she was going to fall asleep.

"I'm going to bed, brother. Night!" Aleena climbed up the balcony. Aaron watching her disappear, then looked at the half-asleep Aphmau. He smiled and walked over to her.

"Don't fall asleep just yet." Aphmau looked up at Aaron, her eyes drooping. She very clearly was exhausted. Aaron grabbed her arm and pulled her up. She leaned against Aaron, about ready to collapse. She closed her eyes and almost fell over, but Aaron caught her. She had fallen asleep.

"Heh.... you're adorable." Aaron, ignoring the pain in his shoulder, picked Aphmau up bridle style. He flinched with the pain, but ignored it. He carried Aphmau till he was near the balcony, then he moved her so her so her arms were wrapped around his neck. He held on to her with his right arm and climbed the crates to the balcony. He laid Aphmau down on the floor and went into his own bed.

Aphmau looked around and saw nothing but darkness.

"Where am I? I was in the observatory when... OH MY IRENE PLEASE TELL ME I'M STILL ALIVE!" Aphmau felt alive, but she couldn't see anything.

"What's going on?" Suddenly Aphmau felt herself jerk, then she was on top of the mountain, looking down on Phoenix Drop. It was raining everywhere but the Mountain. On top of Mount Alliance, it was sunny and nothing was wrong. Lighting started striking, and a strong wind started blowing on the mountain, and soon the sun was covered by storm clouds. Lightning repeatedly struck Phoenix Drop, destroying It completely.

"No!" Aphmau cried and screamed. She couldn't walk. She couldn't run. She could only watch her village burn. Aaron walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her. He covered her mouth, forcing her to watch.

"Isn't that sad... you don't even get to suffer with them." Aaron murmered in her ear. Aphmau cried louder. Aaron smirked as she gave out muffled screams.

"Keep crying... keep screaming... your precious country side town is still going to burn into ashes. All because of you..." He held her tighter as he spoke.

"B-Because of m-me?" Aphmau was so confused. She couldn't struggle against Aaron. It was like she wasn't even in control of her own body.

"It's your fault, Aphmau... so when are you going to own that?" Aaron removed his hand from her mouth and put it behind his back.

"Would you like some help attoning for what you did?" Aphmau didn't even know what he was going to do. He pulled his hand away from his back and had his dagger in it. He positioned it at her heart.

"Sweet dreams..." He pulled the dagger forward and Aphmau closed her eyes. Aaron quickly thrusted the blade back towards Aphmau's chest.

"AAAAH!" Aphmau opened her eyes and was sitting on the floor of the balcony. She put her hand over her heart and looked down.

"It was... a dream?" Aphmau looked around and saw Aaron sitting in his bed, staring at her.

"Had fun crying and moaning in your sleep?" Aaron said, annoyed that Aphmau woke him up.

"C-Crying and moaning?"

"Yes. You've been doing it for at least 10 minutes." Aaron got up and walked toward her. He stopped when he was about 2 feet away. Aphmau didn't look at him, but just stared at the floor.

"What happened in your dream?" Aaron asked, crouching next to her.

"A storm... a bunch of lightning struck Phoenix Drop, burning it down to ashes and dust... everyone... gone..." Aphmau left out the part about Aaron forcing her to watch. Aphmau started crying again. Aaron sighed and wrapped his left arm around her back, pulling her close while keeping his right arm limp. Aphmau held her hand close to her chest and cried. Aaron was holding her close, deep in thought.

"What does this mean?"
