Chapter 18

¤Night; Jan 11, 2009
The abandoned observatory
Mt. Alliance¤

Aaron had searched the forest in and out, but there was no sign of Aphmau. Aaron wasn't sure how to feel about the situation. He felt angry. He felt confused.

He felt alone.

"Why would she leave? What was so important to her that she had to go alone?" Aaron looked around once more. He came to a spring in the forest that he didn't recognize.

"I don't remember this being here before..." Aaron murmered. He saw Aphmau standing near the bank, staring into the water with a disturbingly blank look on her face.

"There you are! I swear, when we get back to the observatory, I'm... gonna..." Aaron trailed off as he got closer. Aphmau was completely unresponsive to him.

"Aphmau...?" Aaron called her name but she still was staring blankly into the water.

"Aphmau!" He yelled. She jumped and looked at him. Aaron heard a noise like a quiet whisper, but wrote it off as his own conscience.

"We are going back. Now." He said, grabbing her arm tightly and starting to drag her away.

"W-Wait!" She said. Aaron stopped and turned to her.

"What?" Aaron asked impatiently. Aphmau suddenly got a fearful look on her face. The whisper Aaron had previously heard got louder.

"What is wrong with you?! We're going back to the observatory now!" Aaron grabbed her once more, this time with more force.

"Aaron... Stop him..." Aphmau whispered fearfully.

"Who?"

"You need to pay attention to your surroundings more..." Aaron turned around and saw a figure in shadow. But it was different from the shadow they knew. It appeared to have... cat ears?

"A meif'wa..." Aaron murmered.

"Very good." The shadowy mist around him disappeared, revealing an orange-haired meif'wa.

"I am a General for his army. I am of The Special Defensive Syndicate. Otherwise known as the Seven Deadly Sins. I am Kai, the God of Lust." He bowed formally.

"God of... lust?" Aaron looked at Aphmau. His eyes widened in sudden realization.

"Don't you dare..." he said to Kai.

"Am I the one who would dare in the first place?" Kai said, smirking.

"After all, all it took was a false promise to bring her here. What's your excuse? Surely it wasn't for an evening walk around the park, now was it?" Kai had a dark aura starting to surround him.

"Why are you here?" Aaron said, not paying any mind to Aphmau, who was clinging to him in fear.

"I'm here to... collect you. As for why... heh. Wouldn't you love to know?" Kai's eyes turned a deep magenta color. He walked around Aaron and Aphmau slowly. Aaron prepared for any kind of attack.

"I can tear you apart from the inside. I can tear both of you apart. I suggest that you come quietly if you don't wish harm to be inflicted upon her or your other friends in that observatory of yours." Kai threatened.

"It won't be that easy. You better kill me if you want to make it out of here." Aaron retorted. Aphmau hid from Kai behind Aaron.

"Fair enough then." Around them, light started to glisten with a purple aura.

"I guess I'll have to tear you apart." Aaron's mind suddenly starting painfully filling with memories. Memories with Aphmau. He fell to his knees. He heard Aphmau scream and she collapsed beside him.

"Is this what you want?" Kai's voice rang through Aaron's head. He saw Aphmau on the ground, dead. She was covered in blood. She was brutally... murdered.

"I suppose that was an unneccesary question." As he spoke, Aaron saw memories from when he abused Aphmau. Nothing was in color except her blood and her tears.

"You think she will ever love you after what you've done? And even if she does, would you be able to trust yourself with her? What if you lost control? What if you hurt her? We both know it wouldn't be below you. You carry a curse. No wonder your mother didn't bother searching for you."

"Shut up..." Aaron could feel anger building up inside him. He slowly drew his knife. Kai didn't notice. Aphmau was silently laying there, tears streaming down her face.

"You only fight because it's true."

"SHUT UP!" Aaron reached for his knife and stood up, running towards him. Kai didn't snap out of his mind quick enough to react and Aaron stabbed him. Kai screeched and Aaron stepped back. Darkness consumed the area. Eventually, it cleared, leaving a rose, a small, spherical, winged-creature. Aphmau stood up slowly.

"What is that...?" Aphmau asked.

"Its a winged-fairy. They hold immense magical power. I thought they were extinct." Aaron watched as the fairy flew above the treeline and out of view.

"Don't all fairies have wings?" Aphmau asked.

"No. In fact, most fairies don't. Most take a human-like form so they can hide from people who would abuse their healing ability. Winged-fairies can't change form, but are more powerful and have wings. Not many people have seen fairies out of human form." Aaron looked down at the rose. He picked it up.

"The Seven Deadly Sins..." Aaron murmered. The rose started wilting, and all the petals fell off, leaving nothing but a stem.

"What does it mean...?" Aphmau asked.

"It means we have more trouble coming straight for us...

...and I have a feeling beating it won't be as easy as this time."
