Chapter 77
"What does this mean Bofur?" Thorin questioned.
"I think we both know what this mean."
"Darila is....alive." Thorin says slowly mainly to himself. All these years he searched for her and he was starting to lose hope. Maybe now all of his hardwork will be paid off. Darila must have a good explanation. She loved him. She would not just leave him....right? Thorin sighed and tried to shake the thoughts out of his head.
"I think you need to speak to your daughter on this matter." Bofur said.
"That might be best. I was thinking....what if she knew Anila was dead? What if she made it for Dalila?" Thorin suggested.
"I guess that is possible. It is black. Maybe it means she's still mourning Anila. Only one way to find out."
"I'm going now. I don't know when I'll return."
"Best of luck to ya Lad. If you need anything you know where the door is." Bofur put a hand on the King's shoulder.
"Are you going to tell me what happened at the funeral?" Fili asked Dalila while stroking her hair.
"We buried Ragna." She whispered.
"I know that."
"I know." She sighed and sat up.
"You commented on my dress. Bofur said it's the signature stitching of the most skilled seamstress Erebor ever had. Thorin recognized it." She explained.
"I see."
"No you don't. This is Darila's stitching. It was sent for my Mother two weeks ago."
"That complicates things."
"Just a little." She scoffed.
"Darila's alive and she thinks your Mother is too."
"That's what it looks like."
"Or..."
"Or what?" She questioned.
"Or it was made for you. She knows where we are and she's never been here. She was lost with Erebor. Maybe she's been watching."
"That's possible. I hope she returns. She was Mother's best friend."
"You should ask Bofur about her. About everything. From beginning to end. Just you and him unless you want me there."
"You're right...."
"As always." He cuts her off with a smirk.
"But it'll have to wait. Kili needs you with him. Make sure he doesn't do anything stupid. I know how I was when I thought you were dead. And throwing a child in the mix.... I can't imagine."
"You don't have to imagine. I'm not going anywhere anytime soon."
"Promise?"
"Promise." He kissed her hand.
A knock on the door gets there attention. Fili answers it.
"Hello Bofur."
"Hello Laddie! Is your Mother around?"
"In her room. Come in and I'll fetch her."
"Thank you Laddie!" Fili goes to his Mothers room.
"Hello Bofur." Dalila smiles.
"Well hello lassie! How are you holding up?"
"Well I suppose. Better than Kili."
"Aye. The poor Lad. I understand what he's going through."
At that time Fili returns with Dis.
"Bofur, what a nice surprise."
"Hello My Lady."
"Is everything alright?"
"Aye. I need to speak with you, about Thorin."
"What is it?"
"Darilla is back."
"What do you mean back?"
"See that dress she's wearing?" He points to Dalila.
"Yes. I don't understand?"
"Look at that stitchin'." He told her. Dis walked over to Dalila and closely examined her dress.
"Well bless me. This is Darila's stitching."
"It was sent to my home a fortnight ago. Either for Anila herself or my young Lass." Bofur exclaims.
"And Thorin recognized it?"
"Instantly. He's going to talk to his daughter about the matter. Said he don't know when he'll be back. I fear he won't come back without her."
"If she's been hiding this long without being found I doubt she'll let Thorin find her."
"Exactly."
"He'll come back." Fili said confidently.
"If that was Dalila you were searching for would you come back without her?" Bofur asked him. Fili remain quiet.
"Exactly. Thorin will not come back without her unless Athina talks some sense into him." Bofur said.
"That won't happen. The love of a woman is more important than anything. No one could talk sense into me if it was Dalila. I'll go search with him. Maybe we can find her faster." Fili declared.
"No. You can't leave." Dalila told him.
"I think that's a good idea Lad."
"Bofur! Don't encourage him." Dalila scolded him.
"Dalila he's my uncle. If I was in his situation he would help me." Fili explained to her.
"Alright but don't take too long or I'll come find you and drag you back."
"I'm sure you would." He smirked down at her. Dalila tip toed and kissed him gently. The kiss became a little more heated when Fili felt a hand on his shoulder. He looked to see Bofur glaring at him.
"Keep it decent Laddie. No funny business till marriage." Bofur warned.
"Unless of course you plan to give me grandchildren." Dis piped in smilling.
"Dis! Don't encourage them." Bofur groaned in the same tone Dalila used before.
"They will have beautiful children! They'd look just like Dalila with Fili's blond hair and blue eyes." DIs sighed happily.
"They will. But marriage comes first." Bofur argued.
"Alright fine. They can wait till marriage I suppose." Dis gave in.
"Sounds like our life has been planned out for us." Fili chuckled to Dalila.
"Less work and stress for us." Dalila shrugged.
"I need to go pack love. I'll be back." Fili pecked her cheek and then went to his room to pack.
A little later Dis went to the kitchen and Bofur followed her.
"Do you really think they'll wait until marriage?" Dis asked nonchalantly.
"If Fili knows what's good for him he will." Bofur growled.
"I think they'll wait and I'm glad but I would love grandchildren."
"There's plenty of time for that."
"I know Bofur. But wouldn't it be just grand to have another baby around?" Dis continued.
"Did you know about Darila?" Bofur changed the subject.
"I might've seen her a time or two." She shrugged.
"Dis."
"I promised her not to say a word." She admitted.
"What do you mean?"
"She's been here awhile. I found her. She told me everything. Why she left."
"Why?"
"Must you push everything?"
"Of course. Why?"
"She was scared."
"Of what?"
"If you'd give me time to finish I'd tell you the whole story."
"Alright tell away." Bofur said.
"Dragon sickness. She knew Thorin would eventually go back for Erebor and he'd be king. She didn't want to see him with the sickness and she didn't want her child to go through it either. She took Athina away and told her about the evil of the place so even if Thorin found her she wouldn't return. She loves Thorin. She just wanted to protect her baby. You understand that. Everything you did was because you thought it was best for Dalila."
"Aye, I understand. Your secret is safe with me."
"Thank you. By the way, she knows Anila is dead. She made that dress specifically for Dalila to wear for the funeral."
"How'd she get all her measures?"
"I might've helped with that." Dis smirked.
"I should've known. You always have a hand in things." Bofur smiled.
