Chapter 71

Dalila ran to her house. Tears blurred her eyes. She stormed into the house, ignoring Bofur and Bombur's calls. She went into her room and closed the door. She sat on her bed and took the two braids out. Bofur slowly opened her door.

"What's wrong lassie?" He asked her. His eyes widened when he saw she had taken out the braids.

"What did he do?" He asked, his voice darkening. His blood boiling.

"Nothing." She said wiping her eyes.

"He must of done something for you to go to these extremes."

"He's been drinking a lot lately you know." She started to explain.

"Yes."

"I went to go find him to tell him something and the bartender said he went to a room alone. But when I opened the door to the room he wasn't alone."

"What do you mean?"

"Chala was with him....in bed." She whispered. Bofur's face reddened with anger.

"What did he say when you walked in?"

"He didn't know I was there. I just left."

"Really? I figured you'd atleast thrown something at him."

"No. I'm not lowering to his level. I'm better than that." She said. He sat by her.

"Why would he do this? He said he loved me. He said we'd be together forever. He said she meant nothing to him. He said I was his one and only." She said trying not to cry.

"I'm truly sorry lass. But he's just another sorry lad. You can do so much better than him. Even if your one isn't a prince he can still be better than him. It's what's inside his heart that counts." Bofur tried to cheer her up.

"Thank you Bofur. And please leave him alone. When the time comes I'll talk to him myself."

"Are you sure? I could give him a good going over."

"I'm sure."

At the bar Fili had finally sobered up. He looked over and saw Chala laying there with no clothes on.

"Oh Mahal." He groaned. He quickly got dressed and left without saying a word to Chala.

"How am I going to explain this to Dalila?" He said to himself.

"I don't know what you did laddie but you did something." The bartender chuckled.

"What do you mean?"

"Your las came looking for you. I gave her a key to your room. She hurried out of here in tears." He explained.

"Oh no." Fili said and ran out and hurried to Bofur's house. He knocked on the front door. Bofur opened it and glared at Fili.

"You're lucky I promised her I'd leave you alone or I'd give you a good one right in the jaw." Bofur growled.

"I promised nothing." Bombur pushed Bofur out of the way and punched Fili square in the jaw. Fili stumbled backwards.

"I deserved that. Can I please see her? Just for a minute." He begged rubbing his jaw.

"I don't know...." Bofur said.

"Let him in." Dalila called from her bedroom. Bofur gave in and let him in. Fili hurried to Dalila's bedroom.

"Dalila please let me explain." He said as soon as he barged in. He looked up and saw her braids down. His heart sank. He's never felt this way before. He didn't even feel this bad when he thought she was dead. There was something different about her being here but not being his.

"No...." Was all he could say.

"Yes. You broke my heart. Even if you say it won't happen again I can't believe you. We're over Fili." She said trying to stay strong.

"No please Dalila. Give me one more chance. I'll never look at another woman. I won't drink another ale. I'll do whatever I have to do to win your heart back." He said kneeling in front of her. She was sitting on her the edge of her bed.

"The thing is Fili, you don't have to win my heart back. You still have it. But you broke it. And that's why this is so hard." She said starting to cry.

"Dalila I'm sorry. I can't say that enough. Please let me fix your heart again. Call me a sinner, call me a saint. Even though you tell me its over, I still love you the same. Call me your favorite. Call me the worst. I don't want you to hurt. It's all that I can say. " He begged, tears brimming his eyes.

"Say you're sorry. That face of an angel comes out just when you need it to. As I paced back and forth all this time 'cause I honestly believed in you. Holding on the days dragged on.I'm such a stupid girl, I should have known, I should have known that I'm not a princess, this isn't  a fairy tale. I'm not the one you'll sweep off her feet, lead her up the stairwell. I was a dreamer before you went and let me down. Now it's too late for you and your white horse to come around. Maybe I was naive, got lost in your eyes and never really had a chance. My mistake, I didn't know to be in love you had to fight to have the upper hand. I had so many dreams about you and me. Happy endings. Now I know that I'm not a princess, this isn't a fairy tale, I'm not the one you'll sweep off her feet, lead her up the stairwell. I was a dreamer before you went and let me down. Now it's too late for you and your white horse to come around. And there you are on your knees, begging for forgiveness, begging for me, just like I always wanted but I'm so sorry. 'Cause I'm not your princess, this isn't a fairytale. I'm gonna find someone someday who might actually treat me well. This is a big world, this is a small town and it's too late for you and your white horse to catch me now."

"Dalila I will treat you well. Better than anyone else ever could, believe me."

"I'm sorry. Go be with your brother. He needs you now more than ever."

"What do you mean?"

"I came to the bar to tell you that Ragna left him. She's pregnant and was going home to have an abortion."

"What?"

"Kili and Thorin are after her now. Go home and wait for him."

"Only if you'll agree to talk to me again tomorrow."

"Fine just go to him."

"I love you."

"Just go Fili." Fili sighed and left.

Bofur came back in her room.

"It's really over now." She whispered looking at the floor.

"I'm sorry lassie." He said sympathitically.

"You really laid one on him Bombur." Dalila said cracking a small smile.

"Yes I did. I should've swung harder." Bombur said proudly.

"I think you did good."

Fili entered his home holding tears back.

"Are they back yet?" Fili asked his mother.

"No not yet. What's wrong?" She said studying his features. He wasn't going to tell her but he couldn't help it.

"I really messed up Mother." He said with a tear rolling down his cheek.

"What happened?"

"I was drunk. I don't remember what happened or how it happened. But I woke up in bed with Chala. I went to tell Dalila, I wasn't going to keep it from her. But the bartender told me that she walked in on us and ran out crying. I went to talk to her and she had already taken her braids out. She said it's too late. I begged and begged." He explained with tears still rolling from his eyes. Dis walked up to him and hugged him.

"I'm sorry son. It'll work out. I have faith in you two. You two have already made it through so much it can't end here." She soothed him.

"I'm afraid this is the end."

"Don't give up on her."

"I won't but I broke her heart. I can't expect her to come back to me."

"Fate has a weird way of working out."
