Chapter 43

"Good morning Dalila. You're up early." Astrid said.
"Yes. I couldn't sleep. Good morning to you too." She sighed and grabbed her journal and a quil.
"What are you writing about today?"
"I don't know. Just whatever comes out."
"You seem stressed. Tell me what's bothering you?"
"I don't even know."
"I do. Fili. You miss him. I understand. But honey you can't let it bother you He misses you just as much. This is for the best. You'll see him soon. Summer will go fast. And you might even see him between now and then."
"You're right. If I write I'll feel much better." Dalila opened her journal. The pages were almost full. She turned to the next blank page and wrote the date. She put the quil to the paper and started writing.

Later that day Dalila was roaming the halls. She saw Thranduil in front of her.
"Evening King Thranduil." She said politely.
"Evening Dalila. How's your stay so far?"
"It's nice. Thank you."
"Of course. Let me know if you need anything."
"I will. Thank you." He walked on ahead of her. She saw a piece of paper slip out of his hand.
"King Thranduil I think you dropped something." She picked it up. But he kept walking and turned the corner.

She tried to find him but she couldn't. She went back to her room. She laid the paper on her desk but something fell out of it. She picked it up and read it. Her head spinned. She had to sit down.
"Oh no. Astrid."
"What? What is it?" Astrid flew to her. "It's an invitation."
"To what? Speak up Dalila."
"It says, You are invited to the ceremony of Fili and Chala. Come join us as these two are wed. July 1st at 1 p.m. in the ball room."
"There must be some mistake."
"No Astrid. It's no mistake. Fili is marrying someone else."
"Read the letter it might explain it."
"Alright." Dalila opened the letter.
"It says, King Thranduil, thank for taking the girl off of my hands. I did not truly love her. Never did and never will. She was just something to pass time. At the end of the summer my men will come get her and she can go home if she chooses to. You will get your jewels for getting her away from me so I can marry my real one, Chala. We would be pleased if you'd attend the wedding." Dalila read and started to cry.
"Who wrote it?"
"It's signed Fili. Astrid he never loved me. He used me. Why would he do such a thing? I'm never going back there. I'll find a new home." She cried into her hands.

The Prince was walking to his chambers and he heard her cries.
"Dalila?" He knocked on her door concerned.
"Just a moment." She called. He waited a second but then went on in.
"Dalila what on Middle Earth is the matter?"
"Nothing. I just miss home."
"That's not all. Please tell me."
"She's been played by a pretty blond prince. When I see him again I'll peck his eyes out the sneaky rat." Astrid replied angrily. Legolas read the letter and invitation.
"I'm sorry Dalila. But it's for the best you found out. You deserve better than him. Someone who will love you and cherish you. Fili wasn't true. Please don't waste your tears on him." Legolas comforted her and used his thumb to wipe away her tears.
"Thank you. But why does it hurt so much?" She hugged him.
"Because what you felt for him was real."
"If this is love I do not want it. You're an elf, take it from me please."
"The love itself wasn't real. Let me show you what real love is. I can take away the pain if you'll let me. Give me a chance. That's all I ask."
"Thank you. You and your father have been very kind. But I need some time to think."
"I'll give you all the time in the world." Legolas smiled.

Astrid took matters into her own hands and grabbed the letter and invitation and flew to the Blue Mountains. She was going to confront the prince herself.
