Chapter 13

The next day Fili and Kili went into town for breakfast with they're friend Gilund. Gilund was Fili and Kili's best friend.
"I heard you were with Lady Dalila last night." Gilund smirked at Fili.
"Yes."
"He was in her room for a long time. I almost fell asleep waiting for him." Kili chimed in.
"Liar. I was only in her room for a few minutes and her maid was in there too."
"Oh...her and the maid. I see Fili." Gilund said.
"Shut up. It was nothing like that."
"Well that was dumb on your part. You had the perfect opportunity." Gilund chuckled.
"No. I want to do it right." Fili said.
"There is no right or wrong way to have sex."
"No that's not what I meant. I meant I wanna wait."
"You're such a goody two shoes. If I had a lady as lovely as Dalila there wouldn't of been any waiting."

"He doesn't have Dalila and he never will." A voice said from behind. They turned towards the voice. It was Dalila's cousin, Nalur. The one she was with when Fili went to Ironhill to get her. Fili recognized him.
"Who are you and how dear you speak to him like that?" Kili spat.
"It's Dalila's cousin." Fili mumbled.
"Yes he's right. My name is Nalur."
"And his name is Fili Arkin. The heir to the throne of Erebor." Kili defended his brother.
"I'm aware of who he is. But I don't care. Erebor is nothing to me. I'm here to warn him."
"Warn him of what?" Gilund said placing his hand on his sword.
"If he comes around my kin again he will die." Nalur said bluntly.
"I'd like to see you try." Kili said standing on his feet and drawing his sword. Gilund followed.
"Kili! Gilund! Put down your arms. We have no quarrel with him." Fili told them.
"But brother-!" Kili tried to protest.
"Just drop them." Gilund and Kili put their swords back in their sheaves.
"You understand I mean what I say?" Nalur asked Fili.
"Yes Nalur I understand clearly."
"Good." He walked off.

"Why didn't you let us kill him?" Kili asked.
"Killing Dalila's cousin wouldn't be the best way to start our relationship." "Relationship?" Gilund questioned.
"Last night I told her I'd come get her before she left and we'd be wed."
"That's a boy! You better go. It's 11." Gilund exclaimed.
"You're right." Fili sprang to his feet.
"Good luck brother!" Kili called out.

While Nalur, Kili, and Gilund were bickering Dalila was having her own problems. Her parents were ready to leave for Ironhill. She was running out of excuses of why she wasn't ready yet.
"I'm still looking for my shoe!" Dalila called to her mother.
"Dalila we need to go now! Hurry up!" Lady Dack shouted back. Dalila sighed and stood on the balcony waiting for Fili.
"He's not going to make it. I can't keep staling and eventually I'll have to go." She sighed.
"I'm sorry my Lady." Ragna said.
"You can call me Dalila when my parents aren't around."
"It's a habit."
"It's fine. I guess I have to go. I'll leave a note on the balcony. Hopefully he'll find it." Dalila said getting a piece of paper and a quil. She started writing.

"Dear Fili,

I'm sorry I could wait no longer. I tried, I truly did. But I'll be waiting for you in Ironhill. But I must warn you, I heard my father speaking with my cousin Nalur about you. If you come around Nalur won't hesitate to kill you. He's been training for 25 years. He's good with a sword and axe and decent with a bow. Don't cross him for I'm scared of the outcome. Don't come for me right away. Wait for things to calm down. I'll send letters to you. I'm sorry I have to leave you again.
Love,
Dalila"

"This will have to do." She stuck the note on the balcony. She grabbed her bags and went downstairs.
"Are you ready my dear?" Lord Dack asked.
"Yes." She sighed sadly.
"I know you are sad but this is for the best." He assured her.
"There's something I must tell you." Nalur said.
"What is it?" She asked him.
"I was in town today. I saw Fili....with another dwarf woman. She had a courting braid in her hair as did he." He told her. Her world crashed down. Her head was spinning. She didn't want to believe it. Fili wouldn't do this. But Nalur wouldn't lie to her either. Nalur saw the pain in her eyes. It pained him as well. He didn't want her to get hurt, that's why he did this. Not out of spite but to protect her. To help her get over him. He went to her and hugged her.
"I'm sorry Dalila. But he's not worth it. I have a friend back in Ironhill I want you to meet."
"Alright. Thank you for telling me."
"If it helps you're prettier then her. Fili downgraded but you'll upgrade."
"Thanks. That makes me feel so much better." She chuckled jokingly.

They loaded everything in the carriage. Dalila took one last look around hoping to see Fili. There was no sign of him. She got in the carriage and Nalur followed behind her. They went down the same road they took when they brought her to Ironhill the first time. The memories came flooding back. She couldn't help the tears that brimmed her eyes. Nalur put his arm around her.

Kili and Gilund were walking back to Kili's house when the carriage passed them.
"That's Dalila!" Kili said.
"Fili missed her!"
"We have to follow them! Fili will soon find out and try to run it down! They'll kill him!"
"You're right." Gilund agreed. They followed it. Staying a safe distance behind and hid in the trees.

At that time Fili was climbing the ladder. He looked in the room and it was empty.
"Dalila?" He called out. There was no answer. He went in. His hand touched something. He looked to see what it was and it was a paper. He picked it up. It was the note Dalila left him. He carefully read it over and over. He couldn't believe he missed her! He should've came first thing this morning! He thought he had plenty of time!
"I gotta catch her. I can't let her leave again!" He hurried down the ladder. He ran as fast as he could down the path to Ironhill.

He was on the road he was on the first time he chased after her when they were young. He saw the carriage ahead.
"Dalila! Please come back!" He shouted. Luckily Nalur and the others didn't hear him. He kept running after them. Suddenly, he was tackled to the ground.
"Are you mad?! They'll kill you!" Kili said.
"She's gone."
"I know brother." Kili sighed.
"I have to get her back."
"You will. But you can't now. Not while her family is still hot and ready to kill."
"She left a note."
"What did it say?"
"Here, read it." He handed Kili the note. He read it and handed it to Gilund.
"She still loves you Fili. She'll wait. You can go fetch her in a couple months." Gilund said.
"Months?!"
"Yes, months. It's better than years isn't it?"
"I suppose. But it'll feel like years." Fili sighed in dismay.
"Come on lover boy. I'm tired of your sappy lines." Kili said helping him up.
"You tackled me really hard." Fili whined.
"I had to run fast to catch you. I didn't know you could move that fast."
"Neither did I. But I'm going to feel it in the morning."
"I'm feeling it now." Kili chuckled.
"I don't run so I won't feel a thing." Gilund said.
"Gilund, you don't do anything that involves physical activity." Kili said.
"That's not true! Lifting my hand to put food in my mouth and chewing it and swallowing it is physical activity!" He protested.
"But it doesn't burn calories. It adds more." Kili said.
"Shut up. I'll die fat and happy."
