Chapter 12
Fili slammed his door. He didn't know Kili was behind him so the door almost hit him. Kili slowly opened the door.
"Fili? Are you alright?"
"No I'm not. I don't understand why Uncle won't let me be with her? She's beautiful. And she makes me happy. You know Kili, when she left you were the only thing that made me happy. And I think it was because Dalila made me promise to be nice to you. And the way you're always happy like her."
"I'm sorry. I don't understand it either. Give Uncle some time and maybe he'll understand."
"No he won't. He sent Dalila away when we were young because he knew she was my one and he was trying to keep us apart. And he did for thirty years but he can't change fate."
"No he can't. And neither can you so you have to go to her. I'll go with you."
"I can go alone."
"I'm going with you. If you get caught by yourself they'll know where you're going but if I'm with you we can say we're going for a walk to clear your head."
"You have a point."
"Don't I always?"
"No. Most of the time you do things just because it sounds cool."
"And they are cool."
"Yes but stupid and usually one of us ends up getting hurt."
"Quit changing the subject and let's go get your girl." Kili said climbing out the window. Fili chuckled and followed him.
They walked in the shadows to the inn she was staying in.
"There's a light in that room. Maybe that's her room" Kili whispered.
"Oh I hope it's her and not some maid." They leaned against the wall under the balcony the light was in.
"Where is Fili? He said he would be here?" Dalila sighed.
"It's Dalila. Do I speak now or listen to what she has to say?" Fili whispered to Kili.
"Wait a minute." Kili instructed. Kili was curious himself what she had to say.
"If he said he'd be here I'm sure he will be. Don't worry about it." Dalila's maid said. Her maids name was Ragna. Ragna was her best friend in Ironhill.
"I hope you're right. Why do I have to be a lowly orphan? If I was someone else Thorin would approve and I could be with Fili. But if Fili loves me like he says he does then I'll no longer be just an orphan girl. I'll be a soon to be queen. But that doesn't matter. Even if he was just a lowly dwarf I'd still love him the same." Dalila admitted.
"Dalila." Kili whispered loud enough for just Dalila and Ragna to hear.
"Who are you?" She asked. She couldn't see him and even if she could she might not have recognized him for she had just met him tonight.
"What are you doing?" Fili asked Kili angrily were only he could hear.
"Trust me brother." He whispered.
"Answer or I'll have my guards come for you." Dalila warned.
"Calm down Dalila. It's me, Kili."
"Kili? What are you doing here?"
"I came for my brother. If what you said is true then I will help you two all I can. But you must promise me what you said is true." Kili was looking out for his brother. He didn't want him to get hurt or him to lose his Uncle over nothing.
"What I said is true. I'd do anything to be with him. I'd give up all my money and everything for him."
"If what you say is true then I will not be king if it means I can't be with you." Fili finally said.
"Fili? Is it really you. I thought you wouldn't come."
"Of course it's really me."
"How did you get here without being caught?"
"When you're in love you can do anything."
"If you're caught here they'll kill you. Especially my cousin."
"Why? I thought everyone approved but Thorin?" He asked confused.
"Thorin was just here. He told my family if you were anywhere near me he'd kill them. We're leaving tomorrow morning and we can never come back."
"If I die it's worth it. I won't let you leave again. I'll do everything I can."
"Fili there's nothing you can do."
"Like I said before, when you're in love you can do anything."
"We're going to fast. We need to slow down. We haven't seen each other in thirty years."
"Thirty years too long. I know what I want and it's you. No amount of time can change that."
"If what you're trying to say is you love me then I love you too. But you know how much I want a real family and I'm not gonna let you loose yours."
"You are my family. And no matter what I know I'll have Kili."
"Dalila come here!" Her mother's servant called her.
"Coming! I'll be back. Don't leave." She went to the servant.
"Kili I hope what she says is true. But I hope Thorin really wasn't here. What will I do if she leaves?"
"Brother you sound like a hopeless romantic and it's really annoying and sickening. When Dalila gets back you go up there and get your girl and don't worry about Thorin. Quit wasting your time coming up with all these cheesy things to tell her. I threw up in my mouth five times." Kili said bluntly.
"Thanks for the support and advice."
"You're welcome. That's what brothers do."
"What is it mom?" Dalila asked.
"I know you love Fili but you have to let it go. You're only 34 for Mahal's sake. You'll find love again. If you continue to go for Fili we'll all die."
"Yes mother." She nodded sadly.
"Go pack up your things. And get plenty of rest. Tomorrow there's someone I want you to meet. He's a very ravishing boy."
Dalila went back to her room.
"Fili? Are you still there?"
"Yes. I'm coming up." He said and started to climb up.
"Fili you'll be caught."
"I don't care."
"Don't worry Dalila. I got his back and nothing gets passed me." Kili assured her. She chuckled. Fili made it to the top and Dalila pulled him up.
"I missed your brother but I missed you more." Dalila hugged him.
"Dalila I'm tired of wasting time. Let's get married tomorrow."
"I'm leaving tomorrow."
"Kili talked to the inn keeper and you guys are suppose to leave tomorrow at noon. I'll send for you before then. Be ready. Don't bring anything. I'll buy you everything you need."
"If what you say is true I'll marry you. But if I'm not here it's because I was forced to leave. Not because I wanted to."
"I assure you everything I say is true. And if you're not here I'll come to Ironhill for you." He kissed her. They heard footsteps coming from the hall.
"You must go. Goodnight"
"Goodnight my love. I'll see you tomorrow."
"Yes now go before you get caught and killed." She hurried him out. He climbed down the balcony.
"Now that's how you do it. Quick and to the point. Good job brother." Kili told Fili.
"Thanks." They headed back to the castle. But they didn't get very far. A strong hand grabbed their shoulders and pulled them back. It was Thorin. He'd been watching the whole time.
"I had a feeling you would come." He told Fili.
"Yes and I'm coming back."
"I hope you enjoyed tonight. It won't happen again." He said ignoring what Fili said before.
"What do you mean?"
"Exactly what I said. It's what's best."
"How do you know what's best for me?"
"I just do."
"No you don't."
"I'm no longer doing this as your Uncle I'm doing this as your king."
"Then I hope I'm never king. If being king means keeping people from being happy then I don't want to be king." Fili stormed off.
"How do you understand Uncle?" Kili asked.
"It's a tale for another day." He sighed.
