Chapter Twenty One
"Ow ow ow ouch, dammit, ease up you asses," Lizz grunted as the two Droids tousled her around, "I'm not struggling you can stop being so rough!" Obviously, the two didn't respond and the two didn't listen. They continuously jostled her around until they rounded the corner of Borg Industries.
That's when she attacked. Quickly and quietly she knocked out the two, ripping their power sources from their bodies, and for good measures dismantling them completely, "Alright, now that that's done, I can go in on my own terms."
Quietly, she stepped into the middle of the street to get a better look at her surroundings. Buildings had broken doors and charred sides. Windows were cracked and shattered, cars abandoned in the street and there was no other living soul in sight.
"Living," she whispered, turning in a full circle. Through the thick silence, there was noise coming from somewhere near, and it sounded like it was from Borg Industries. She sighed, Screw it, "What better way to get inside than to knock on the front door?"
Quickly and quietly, she took the steps two at a time until she got to the top. Before her fingers touched the door to push it open, someone inside opened it and everything for her went black.
...
Tie her next to the other one! Pythor was towering over two Droids, and Mindroid, yelling at them. Everything was tilted, and blurry, in Lizz's eyes and she couldn't keep the darkness out for very long
...
Slowly everything faded back into dimness, and all that was to be seen was where the small group had already been. Two Droids had a hold on her arms, Mindroid following up the rear. Lizz's head lolled to the side and she was out once more.
...
"Psstt... Jade! Jade! Jade Vess?!"
"N-no..." she whispered, shaking her head a little, "N-n-no one calls me that," she opened her eyes a fraction, letting them adjust to the dark, "Anymore."
"Anymore?" there was shuffling, a thump, and a curse that were all followed by a groan, "How does Ash walk around with these twenty-four-seven?!"
Ash... "Lar? Is that you?"
Lar pulled himself back to his feet and walked as far as his shackles would allow, "Who else would it be?"
He reached towards her and she flinched back, only then realizing she was tied to a chair, "The hell am I tied to a chair for?"
"Only one of us could be somewhat free to walk around," he explained in a strained tone, jingling the shackles around his wrists for emphasis,"They wanted you more than me so you're tied up."
She sighed, "Whatever you're about to say just say it already."
And suddenly Lar launched into a rushed paragraph that Lizz had issues understanding, "Look, Jade, I am so so stupid for doing what I did you a couple days ago. I had no right to keep that secret from you and I should have told you but I'm stupid and I was scared of what would happen so I didn't tell you and I hope someday you'll forgive me. I wasn't thinking when I said all those things and I hope you know that I didn't mean any of it."
Lizz's expression was completely blank and emotionless, "One: My name is not Jade. Two, you weren't thinking when you were saying all those things and I don't care if you meant them or not, because you completely destroyed me, Lar. You were the first person to accept and love me for me and you crushed all the trust I so stupidly put in your hands. You're completely right, though: you were stupid and still are. Granted, you did have reason behind what you did but you could have either not made me trust you and fall in love with you, or you could have told me what was happening and kept me in the loop."
Lar's jaw dropped, "Y-You were in love with me?"
"Head over freaking heels, you complete and utter imbecile!" she retorted angrily, "Was that not obvious in the way I looked at you? Or how I spoke to you? How much time I wanted to spend with you? I am not a people person!"
Lar sat down and pulled his knees close, crossing his left arm over the top of them, grabbing his right elbow so his right arm just dangled there. With a sigh, he set his chin on his left forearm, "I'm sorry. Is there any way you can forgive me? That we could at least still be friends?"
He sounds so defeated, "Maybe. But only after I get out of here since it's your fault we're in here anyway."
"How is this my fault?"
"If you never unceremoniously disowned me you'd have never gotten caught and I'd never have had to come save your ass."
"Why can't you just accept the fact that I did this for you?!" he suddenly snapped, which was completely out of his nature, "Now stop blaming me and help me think of a way we can get out. You can beat me up later."
"I'm holding you to that, by the way. And what exactly do you suppose we do?" Lizz asked, "We're the Elemental Masters of Water, that's not really a thing to help us escape a situation."
"Well, don't look at me for help! I'm just as smart as you, no smarter."
"Lar, shut up for a minute," Lizz instructed, struggling to get a feet of what her hands were bound with.
"No, Whatever-Your-Name-Is-Now, I will not," he demanded, "What I did was wrong, and I was just saying that you're-"
"Lar Jay Matthews if you do not shut your face I swear in the name of NinjaGo I will rip off your mouth and shove it so far up your ass your stomach will talk when you're hungry! Now, what am I tied up with?"
"Harsh," Lar hummed for a moment before answering, "Rope, you lucky son-of-a-bitch. These shackles hurt."
Lizz snickered dryly, "Serves you right. Anyhoe, rope frays when it's really wet, doesn't it?"
"Sort of, I guess, why?"
"If the room flood enough to get my hands submerged in water for long enough the rope should fray or something and I can attempt to break out!"
"It could work, but neither of us are strong enough to use that much power," Lar looked at his feet and sat back down, adjusting his chains.
All Lizz heard was the jingle of metal because he'd moved back into the darker shadows, out of her sight, "There's water pipes behind you, Matthews. You're strong: bust one open and see what we can do."
"You, you mean," he corrected, standing back up, "I'm bound with chains, remember? Worst that water can do is make it wet."
"First of all," Lizz began, listening to Lar do his handiwork, "You really doubt my abilities? I grew up pick-pocketing, stealing, hiding and breaking-and-entering without ever getting caught. Second: Nothing is ever locked. Third: if you keep the spray consistent long enough and get it flowing fast enough water can in fact cut through metal. How're those pipes coming along?"
There was a metallic clang and the audible sound of rushing water followed. Lar chuckled, "Pretty good, I suppose."
"Good," by now the water was ankle high, "Damn, this is a small room if it's filling up this fast."
"It's fairly small, actually..." Lar admitted, "I don't know how small it is, but..."
By now the water was knee high, and Lizz's knee-high combat boots were filling with water. Her black leggings were wet, too, obviously, "Yeah... I hope the water stops when it gets to where we want it, otherwise we'll drown before I get free...."
"I can bend the pipe back into place, don't worry," he told her, leaning against the wall. Water from the stream had stuck to the wall and was running down into Lar's hair, making it fall more into his eyes, "Gah... Dammit. I need a haircut."
"Awe, I like your hair long," Lizz whined, "It's really soft."
"Chamille said the same thing," Lar muttered, looking off to the side.
"Chamille?! When did Chamille ever have access to your hair?!" Lizz's voice jumped.
"She and I may have had a thing in the past," Lar looked at Lizz and was met with a glare, "It was a one time thing! In the past, Lizz, c'mon!"
"She's into girls anyway," Lizz shrugged, "Her and Skylor. Did you know that?"
"No."
"Well, now you do," she smiled sweetly, then scowled at nothing, "Can you bend that pipe back?"
"Sure thing, dollface," Lar turned and got back to bending, and soon the water stopped slowly rising.
"Did you just call me dollface?" she asked incredulously, raising an eyebrow, "You're not from Nineteen-Forty-Two, no one says "dollface" anymore."
There was more silence from him until he sighed, "Sorry for getting you into this mess."
"It's my fault," Lizz admitted, "I care too much about people who say they care about me, or like my company or... In this case, people who say they love me. And my problem is, I keep caring about them even if they stop. That's what brought me here, I was worried about you because I thought they turned you into a Cyborg like Cyrus."
"They let Cyrus go when I showed up," Lar sat down, making him look comical when neck deep in the clear water, "How's your rope coming along?"
Lizz shifted her hands apart a little, "It's lenient, but I don't really have any strength to break it apart."
"Why? Are you hurt?"
"No, I'm not motivated enough to Hulk-Out into complete Badass-Mode," Lizz admitted, "Oops?"
Lar sighed, very long and very loudly, "Alright, what will it take for you to break the rope?"
"I don't know, get me annoyed enough to try to kill you. Maybe that will work," she adjusted herself, and continued to do so for a very long time. Eventually she simply crossed her legs, "Go on, piss me off."
"I can't intentionally make you mad! How could you ask that of me?" Lar asked incredulously.
"Just do it, would you?"
"No! It absolutely killed me to do it so you'd willingly go with Cole and stop caring about me, and I almost did die because of it," the water splashed as Lar shook his hands, above the surface, to jingle his restraints for emphasis again, "Please don't make me do it again."
"Lar I'm going to stab you in the face with a butcher knife if you don't," the reply came out in a flat, emotionless tone.
"No."
"Lar..."
"Never."
"Lar!"
"No."
"Lar Jay Matthews!"
"No! I told myself I wasn't going to do it again, and I'm not. Even if you're telling me to," he crossed his arms, "I'll drown myself before I do that to anyone."
"You Mother-Hubbard!" the shout was sudden, unexpected to both of them. What was also unexpected was Lizz breaking free of her ropes and jumped on Lar. Stretching him out beneath her, Lizz wrapped her hands around his next and held him underwater, shaking him, "Why won't you annoy me?!"
The following few minutes included Lar drowning and being choked by Lizz while simultaneously attempting to not drown and push her off him so he could sit up and breath. His outstretched hands pushed up on her face enough to pry her off for a moment, and he sat up spasming and spitting up water, "What the actual hell, Lizz?! Why- would you do that-? You could have just-- killed me!" he shouted between coughs, "Don't do that again, I don't have gills, you know! Damn, what is wrong with you?!" She was grinning ear to ear and Lar glared even more, "Answer me! What's wrong with you?!"
"You're yelling at me!! Yay!"
"What?"
"Not quite what I was going for, but I got you to be something other than remorseful!" she inched closer to him, still grinning, "Granted, you should know by now that everything is wrong with me. Now give me your hands."
He handed them over without question and a few seconds later he was free, which brought a large grin to his face, "How?"
"Nothing is ever locked," Lizz stood, dragging him up as well, "Let's get outta here."
A/N: This one was boring. Sorry, but the next one should be a bit less boring. [Let's face it, Lar is a boring dude. :p ]
Lar: Hey, I am not boring. *Glares*
Me: *Pats his cheek* Sure you're not.
Anyhoe, there may be another chapter up tonight, yet. It's only 8, the night's still young and I'm almost outta ma Writer's Block. *Crosses fingers* Let's hope.
