Chapter Twenty Nine
A/N: Hi
Hey, remember last chapter--I think, anyway--when Lizz was ranting about how she's not cut out to be a Ninja? When she first made it into the building after falling?
Yeah, I was originally gonna have Kai grab her and kiss her to shut her up.
I kinda regret not doing that.
Jay and Kai jumped up onto the edge of an inside window, looking into the small room. Jay snorted, "Ugh... we're not thinking big enough! Why climb, when we can do this?!" he ran across the room and hopped onto the windowsill of the outside window, pulling out his Blade before flinging himself into the air.
Kai was joined by Cole, Zane and Lizz at the window, watching as Jay's electric-blue Roadrunner materialized on the side of the building. The tires squealed as he did a U-Turn before flooring it, driving up the side of the building. Kai shook his head, "That kid plays way too many video games."
Cole reached behind him and pulled free his Techno Blade, "Jay's right. Forget this!" he pushed off the window and did two flips before his Mech burst into existence and began running up the building after Jay.
Lizz was becoming more and more paranoid, "I can't do that!"
"Yes you can," Kai reassured her, although he wasn't too sure she'd be able to. Their vehicles came from hacking into Droids in the city. Lizz wasn't there and therefore he didn't know if she'd have a vehicle.
She shuddered, "Y-you first."
Kai nodded, "Okay... you can do this Kai... you can..." he forced himself out the window and as he fell his jet flickered to life. Quicker than it'd appeared, the jet was gone and Kai hurtled towards the ground, "Ahhh!! I can't do it! I can't do it! I can't do it I can't! Ahhh!!'
Lizz watched Zane go save Kai in his icy white jet and then it was her turn. Hoping Zane would be kind enough to catch her if she fell, Lizz jumped from the window and thought of ways she could make a vehicle materialize out of thin air.
Somehow it worked, a sleek, dark blue dirt bike popping up underneath Lizz. She screamed, it scared her so much, "Holy hell it worked!"
There was a chorus of "Good job!" through the comm and then Cole gave out instructions, "Alright, let's get to the top!"
"You mean bottom," Jay corrected.
"Good Lord this is confusing," Lizz muttered. She was driving upwards to get to the ground and the sky was below her and she was driving a dirt bike. Just to see if she could, she floored it and popped a quick wheelie, slamming the front wheel back onto the building when she wobbled. The air whipped past her ears, making a faint whistling noise that disappeared when they all joined together in a cry of, "Ninjaaaaaa-GO!"
She caught up with the others, keeping pace pretty well with Jay and Cole as the two of them shot at oncoming helicopters that were sent to most likely dispatch them all. Do I have... Lizz pressed a button on her handlebar and she successfully shot a weapon that was hidden somewhere on her ride. Sweet! She joined in the shooting; not quit hitting much, but she was getting better.
Suddenly Cole tipped forward and Lizz thought he was hit until he continued taking down Digicopters with him, "The data filters into the ground! The heart of the system must be behind it!" he called out.
"Then let's be surgical about it!" Jay laughed. Lizz imagined him to be grinning as they all shot at the ground at the same time.
It exploded, splintering into a million little shards of something. Lizz and Cole shielded their eyes as they went through the cloud of shards, Ninjaaaaa-GO!" they all called again, free-falling through the air before hitting the smooth, blue ground.
One by one their vehicles all disappeared and Lizz sprang to her feet, alert and ready for anything as she scanned the area. It was a cavernous space with a smooth blue-marble looking floor and a large light blue pillar standing in the center of it. The pillar was made of moving, spinning panels.
Kai stood up and straightened his Gi, "The reboot activation port!" he yelled, "It can't be that easy... can it?" he threw up his hands.
Cole took off running towards the pillar, "Well I'm not going to stand around to find out!"
The others fell behind him, running to get there before something went to hell. Lizz passed all of them, followed closely by Kai. As they reached the pillar, one by one they jumped up to the activation port with their Blades ready. Kai grinned, "Let's hack this system!"
All together the Ninja put their Blade in the port and then with a single cry of "Ninja-Go!" they began jumping back to the ground, running away from the port. Off in the distance--right by the final activation point--a cloud of what looked like black dust had formed and was growing bigger as it laughed evilly a little, "You may have beat my program, but you cannot beat me!" the OverLord caught the light from the tower in his hand and threw it at the Ninja, knocking them down like bowling pins.
Zane sat up first, "He's blocked the reboot signal! We have to complete the circuit!"
Jay sat up, too, "We have to move him?!" he pointed a hand at the OverLord.
Kai sat up as well, "We can try!"
Lizz sat up, rubbing the back of her head, "You guys take this. I think I'll sit this one out."
"No you don't," Cole stood and grabbed her wrists, yanking her to her feet, "You're one of us, Lizz. We got your back just like you got ours. We have to finish this job if you want to leave," Cole released her and turned around, "Now let's get 'im!"
Together they all charged and jumped at the OverLord, only to be batted away like pesky little flies--save for Jay, who was grabbed in one of the OverLord's shadowy tentacles, "You have failed!"
Zane, Cole, Lizz and Kai all put their heads together, "We need to help Jay," Lizz stated.
Zane was taken aback a little, "It was to my understanding you two disliked one another."
"That doesn't matter," Lizz waved her hand, "A brother in battle is a brother in battle, no matter your personal feelings."
Cole raised an eyebrow, "I don't have any ideas, though. Anyone else?"
"Fools!" the OverLord interrupted Kai's plan, making them all break apart and turn to face him, "all your existence you've been powered by a lie!"
Jay's voice sounded constructed, like the air was being squeezed out of him, "I got him! ...I... I got him!"
"Jay shut up!" Lizz yelled at him.
"That the good guys always win," the OverLord sneered, finishing his sentence.
"He's too big!" Kai confirmed.
That's what she said, Lizz mentally snickered, although on the exterior she was petrified.
"Certainly they don't," the OverLord added.
"We cannot fail!" Zane yelled out.
"Yes we can!" Lizz shouted back. It was very obvious they were going to fail, "Do you not see the predicament we've gotten ourselves into?!"
"I have the power now!" the OverLord's shouted gleefully, his voice getting even more scratchy, "Technology has made me infinite!"
"You let me go you overgrown-ahhh!" Jay's threat was ended early as he was thrown into Zane, knocking them both over. The two slid a little ways.
"The Golden Ninja is MINE!" the OverLord laughed again.
Lizz grit her teeth at the mention of Lloyd, pressing her jaws together so hard it was a wonder how her teeth were still intact. Somewhere behind her, her ears picked up Zane's soft whisper, "...Lloyd...?" she looked back at him, watching the kindhearted Nindroid get to his feet, "You're wrong OverLord! Good guys may not always win, but they never give up!" he paused, closing his eyes for a brief second before his white Gi turned to shimmering gold, "If we can't move him, go around him!"
Zane took off at a run, straight for the OverLord as Kai stated the obvious, "What? Zane... you're.. Gold!"
They watched as Zane ducked and dodged the OverLord's wispy tentacles. Jumping and rolling, Zane wasn't even touchable, "Exactly," he climbed his way to the OverLord's head, standing there, "Even in the darkness, we have the choice to reflect the light!" just then, the reboot beam recharged and attempted another go at the end point. Zane caught the light this time, turning to direct the beam, "Cole! Get into the light!"
Cole flipped twice, turning gold mid flip as he got to the designated spot just in time, "You're a genius! Catch the light, Jay!"
Jay barrel rolled three times before he ran into a tentacle, causing him to roll back once and then flip over the attacking limb before he too turned gold, "Lizz! Run to your position!" he called, catching the light from Cole.
"I-I can't!" Lizz shook her head, "I don't know how!"
"You have to believe in yourself, Lizz!" Zane called out, "You are a Ninja! Believe it and you will accomplish it!"
Very slowly Lizz's Gi melted to a soft gold, "I'm a Ninja..." she whispered, "I'm... a Ninja..." she picked up pace as she moved towards her spot, growing more and more gold with each step, "I am Lizz Garmadon and I am a Ninja!" she shouted, rolling under one of the OverLord's limbs before getting to her spot, catching the light Jay offered, "Kai! Catch the light!"
"I'm too big to fail now!" the OverLord interrupted.
"C'mon, Kai!" Jay encouraged, "You can do it! Just believe!"
"How can I?!" Kai called back, backing up away from everything, "This is not my world!"
The OverLord turned to face Kai, "Too little... Too late!" he leaned down to be eye level with Kai, "I. Won't. Allow!"
Kai fell to one knee, bracing his hands against the ground as he looked down, "... I... allow...myself!" as he slowly stood, his red began flickering gold and by the time he was straight he was completely gold, catching the light from Lizz and completely the circuit.
The game hummed, "System reboot initiating."
"No... no..." the OverLord squirmed, "Noooo!!" he imploded on himself, blinding the Ninja with a blast of white light.
A/N: Well now what do I do with my--and Lizz's--life?
