Chapter 13 Indecisive

Her heart was pounding, she tried to control her breathing, hoping that it would not be obvious that she was troubled by the fact that she was gonna see someone whom she thought as her father, and never even once did she imagine being adopted. Ally rubbed her forearm, anxiously. She was praying that she would not have a panic attack.

She followed her mother's steps to their bedroom. There, she saw her father was sitting in the bed with his body leading against the bed headboard. He was reading a magazine and still had no idea that Ally was there. Ally slowly walked towards her father and gave him a hug.

Mr. Sullivan was shocked and flinched as someone suddenly hugged him tightly. Ally's hair covered part of his face but he could vaguely see the brown curly hair. He knew it was Ally.

"Ally!" Mr. Sullivan shouted happily and excitedly as he saw her daughter. He kissed Ally's forehead before hugging her tight. "Is this a surprise?" He asked as he closed the magazine and put it aside.

"Yeah, well Jessie and Lauren are here. We're staying for dinner. Are you happy to see me?" Ally sat next to her father. Mrs. Sullivan came to sit with them too.

"Overjoyed." He said with a radiant smile on his face.

Ally look into her father eyes. Her heart was at ease. She then looked at her mother. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. 'That was it.' She thought. She did not care if she was adopted or if her parents were not ready to tell her the truth. This was a pure happiness to her, to be able to be together with her family, to see them smile and happy.

Seeing how happy her parents were when they saw Ally, she decided to not say a word about her status, even though her heart was screaming and deperately wanting to ask. She loved them, but asking them about it might only hurt them, and she really wanted to avoid that. But again, she couldn't swallow to urge to ask the question forever. She bit her thumb as she was fighting with her own feelings. Wanting to ask or just let things go with the flow.

'Am I really not gonna ask about that? Is it really because I don't care or is it because I'm afraid of what they are gonna tell me? I already
knew about this, what am I so afraid of?' She was wondering about her decision, and was actually still contemplating whether to asked them or not. She was indecisive.

Ally jiggled her legs as she was feeling stressed. She did not know what to do. Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan noticed that Ally was being so anxious.

"Ally, what's wrong honey? You don't look okay." Her mother asked. She looked worried.

"I really love you mom." There was a tremble in Ally's voice.

"And I love you too dad." She looked at her father.

"Ally?" Mr. Sullivan looked at her daughter with a frown on her forehead.

"No, no. I am okay." She shook her head. "I just missed you guys a lot, and I was worried about dad being sick. I just, I can't imagine living without you guys in this world." Ally did not lie, it's just she did not tell the whole truth of what was on her mind. She clasped her father's hand.

"I'm fine, honey, I could go back to work next week. I've fully recovered. Don't worry about me." The father gave her daughter a smile, he was so grateful to have a daughter who really cared about him. She caressed Ally's hand.

"Wonderful!" Jessie grinned.

"How's college?" Mr. Sullivan asked, he took off his glasses and put in on the magazine that he was reading earlier.

"Pretty good. It's just we're a bit busy with all of quizzes and assigme-"

"You have a boyfriend?" Mrs. Sullivan interrupted. She widened her eyes while looking at her daughter.

"MOM!" Ally's cheecks turned red. She was blushing. "No, I don't have a boyfriend."

"Well, do you have someone you like?" Mrs. Sullivan asked again.

"I'm not gonna answer that question." She wiggled her finger and shook her head.

Ally stood up and walked towards the door.

"Where are going?" Mr. Sullivan looked confused.

"Avoiding mom's question." Jessie chuckled.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan laughed hearing the answer. Ally smiled while looking at them.

"Mom, is there anything I can help you with for dinner?" Ally asked before stepping out of her parents' room.

"No, honey. Don't worry. Tell Lauren and Jessie that dinner will be ready in 30 minutes."

Ally nodded with a smile before closing the door. Her phone chimed when she was walking towards her room. She stopped in front of her room for a while to read the text she received. It was from Austin.

Ally and Austin were friends even before he dated Lauren, so he had Ally's number.

'Hi Al, I'm sorry to bother you but can you ask Lauren when's she gonna text me? I texted her but she didn't reply.'

He looked desperate. Ally heaved a sigh.

'You gotta give her more time and space. She's gonna text you eventually. Don't worry, okay?'

After replying to his text, she turned the door knob to open the door and entered her room.

"Guys, dinner will be ready in 30 min-" She discontinued her sentence when she saw her two friends hugging in her bed and Lauren's eyes were red. She closed and locked the door, and walked up to them. Lauren then told everything to Ally.

They had shepherd's pie for dinner. Ally sat next to her mother, Jessie sat next to Lauren and Mr, Sullivan sit at the end of the table. It was a simple dinner.

"This tastes awfully great, Mrs. Sullivan. I haven't had shepherd's pie in years." Lauren complimented on her food.

"Take some more." Mrs Sullivan handded the food to Lauren.

"Thanks." She took it from Mrs. Sullivan hand.

"I have a question for both of you." Mrs. Sullivan said to Jessie and Lauren.

"Yes?" They both said synchronously. They put the fork and knife down and waiting for Mrs. Sullivan's question.

"Does Ally have a boyfriend?" Mrs. Sullivan was still
not satisfied with Ally's answer, so she asked her friends.

Ally widened her eyes and looked at her mother. "MOM!" She bit her lower lip, she was blushing again when her mom teased her. Jessie and Lauren were already laughing.

"Honey, you should not pressure her like that." Mr. Sullivan chuckled as he said that.

"No, Ally does NOT have a boyfriend yet." Jessie looked at Ally and winked her eye as a sign of saying 'I got your back'.

"Oh by the way, did Ally tell you that she scored highest for Genetics quiz?" Lauren tried to change the topic as she knew Ally was getting uncomfortable.

"Oh, Ally. We are so proud of you!" Mrs. Sullivan looked at her daughter and smile.

"That's my daughter." Mr. Sullivan said proudly.

After having a dinner at Mr. Sullivan house, they helped Mrs. Sullivan to clean up even though she said it was okay for her to do it all. Jessie and Lauren thought it would be rude to let Mrs. Sullivan do all the house chores alone as they did not help her preparing for dinner earlier.

They left the house around 9 o'clock. Before leaving, Ally hugged and kissed both of her parents, and told them to take care of themselves, while Jessie and Lauren already waited in the car, they want to give some space to Ally to be with her parents before leaving. "I love you!" Ally shouted as she was getting into the car. She waved at her parents until they disappeard from her vision.

"Seat belt, please." Lauren reminded Ally to fasten her seat belt.

"Alright, alright." She did what Lauren asked her to do.

"Hey, both of you. Thanks a lot." Ally leaned against the chair after the seat belt was fasten.

"Anything for you." Lauren replied.

"Jessie?" Ally turned to look at Jessie who was at the back, she was already asleep.

Lauren and Ally looked at each other and smile.

"It's just you and me." Said Lauren.

"It's just you and me." Ally repeated after her.

The night was a dead silence and dark. There were less cars on the road. Only the streets and car light illuminated the road. Lauren turned on the radio so that it would not too quiet when she was driving. The song "Let Me Down Slowly" by Alex Benjamin was played on the radio. She was feeling it.
