{A/N: Words From The Author}
Dear Reader, or to Anyone Who Comes Across This Out of Curiosity,
What you're about to read is a story I had played around with during my third year in college.
It's started as a story line for a graphic novel I planned to make for my thesis, until I decided to scrap it in favor for another project (which was a short 3D-animated film and got an award as Best in Visual Presentation *#humblebrag*- if anyone might ask).
However, a couple of years after graduation, I couldn't help but wonder - what if.
A friend of mine read the plot and suggested I make a novel out of it - she also wanted it as a graphic novel - but who knows.
Alas! As a leisure writer, I can only write on my free time when I'm not doing my job and even that, I have never taken any writing workshops or courses.
Luckily my mother had a friend (who also quickly became my friend) who was a writer and she had advised me that a key to making a good story is to know the message you're portraying that can transcend over what's fiction and what's real.
It can be based off of social issues, real-life situations like tragedy and joy, challenging societal norms - anything from your perspective that deserves a notice and another look.
In my case, I've decided to base off on something personal that allowed me to play with it: the stigma of cognitive difference set in a twist, where speculative fiction introduces an elitist society thriving on order, discipline and subservience.
You see, in a place where you're different, where everything is set and molded to a clean and precise scheme, you might feel discouraged, repressed and alone.
And that is where my main characters find themselves in, trapped in a war of power, greed and ignorance.
Sometimes the greatest wars we need to to fight are the ones we face every day, not out of external situations but internally.
I know it's not much, but I hope you give this novel a try - despite its slow updates. I'm still wrestling with my time and coming up with scenes for this novel and my other one.
Also, for those who may have read my other novel, "DITCH", you might notice that this novel has a different, much darker tone.
Please note that it is intentional. As a matter of fact, this is how I normally write and the narrative I was channeling in "DITCH" is to suit the personality of my character.
Anyways, I would love to hear what you say. Comment, like, share (the possibilities are endless!)
To the ones who still haven't read "DITCH" I invite you to do so! You might find something interesting in the first chapter! ;)
P.S. Same thing applies here:
Playlist can be found after each chapter.
Translations - if needed - will be provided in the Author's Notes.
Let's try to limit the use of profane language as to avoid offending anyone.
Sincerely,
Lei André
