Traitor-12
Alex's POV
With Lynn's words Drew released the time. As soon as she did so the boy started crying and screaming as the cheetah growled lowly and stalked forward. I moved aside so the cheetah could see the boy that it was so protective over. "Wait," I said as the Cheetah continued to move closer, "We know what you are and were not going to hurt you or him! We will let him go, but first, you have to change back."
The Cheetah lunged forward and I looked at Lynn for help. "We can prove it okay?" Lynn asked as she through up a plan. She turned toward the now red face boy and said, "Think of something, anything, and I will read your mind." The cheetah growled louder the closer we got to the boy but we had to prove ourselves.
The boy nodded and meekly said, "Okay got it."
I looked to make sure the cheetah wasn't making any moves to kill Drew, who was right next to me and then focused on Lynn and the boy again.
"Alright," she remarked her eyes glazed over as she dug into the young boy's brain, "Sammy, please stop, don't hurt them!"
The boy started nodding vigorously before he said in his childlike voice, "Its okay Sammy! Their good you can turn back!"
The cheetah completed a sort of nod and walked into the woods. I heard an accompaniment of rustling before a brown- haired girl in a purple t-shirt came sprinting out of the woods. She looked a bit older than Lynn and Ibut I wasn't sure how old exactly.
"Thomas!" she called as she sat next to the boy and started to untie his ropes. She got them all untied before she stood up and gave us a good hard look. "Why are you guys here?" she asked studying us to the point where I was getting uncomfortable.
"Probably for the same reason you are," Drew commented shifting his weight onto his left foot.
I looked over at the boy, Thomas I think it was, and said, "Did you have an odd dream and end up here too?" Thomas nodded but continued to cower behind Sammy.
She looked at me like I had just announced Darth Vader and Yoda were brothers. "Wait you had that dream with that head too?" she asked her eyes widening by the second.
"We all did, " Lynn started walking closer to Sammy, "But before we get into our destiny and all that heavy important stuff, I think we should at least introduce ourselves."
Sammy nodded and pointed to Thomas, "His name is Thomas as you already know. He is eight years old and has super strength. Although his powers are fairly undeveloped they are still pretty cool." As she said that Thomas stepped out from behind Sammy and gave us all a little wave. Sammy smiled at his gesture and continued with, "I'm Samantha but you can call me Sammy. I am fifteen years old and have shapeshifting powers as you have already witnessed." She looked at Drew, Lynn and I before saying, "Well what about you guys?"
We all introduced ourselves and got to know a bit more about Sammy and Thomas. They didn't really go into much detail but from what they told me I could tell they hadn't really had the best lives either. It felt good to be around other people who sort of knew what you were going through, even if you really even didn't. Once Lynn had finished filling them in on our current situation we got down to business.
" I don't get," Thomas said his eyes shifting to all of us, "Why would anyone want to hurt you guys? You are all so nice!"
His innocence was so adorable but I knew he wouldn't be that way for long.
"Well," Lynn said, "Walking over to Thomas, "Alex's parents aren't very nice and they don't really like Alex because he is more powerful than them. They have a very strong group of people that are willing to fight with them because they believe the same thing. But what they don't know is that Alex has us and whoever the person who brought us here is on his side." Lynn looked over at me a nodded while giving me a big smile. I love it when she smiles. Ugh! Stop Alex stop!
"Yeah," I said, "With help from all of you guys we are sure to win this-umm- war!" I glanced over at little Thomas who was listening so intently and then to Drew who looked like he was just told his dog had died. Huh, that was weird, but he's probably fine.
But just as I was about to ask Drew if he was okay he got up and ran into the deeper part of the jungle. "I think I should check on him!" I called as I made my way after him. I looked over my shoulder to see Lynn nod and then go back to chatting with Sammy and Thomas. I ran deeper into the wood calling out Drew's name every couple of steps. As I got into the really deep part of the wood I had to start looking down just to make sure I didn't trip on roots or wildlife for that matter. I could hear the monkeys howling but still no sign of Drew. "Where could he be?" I muttered softly to my self as I continued to stumble through the forest. But just I was about to head back to the 'base' in defeat I hear a yelp. I slowly stalked over to the source of the noise and couldn't believe what I saw.
"No, I can't do this anymore!" Drew yelled to the hooded figures.
"You must!" the one on the right shouted back.
"You haven't replied you debt!" The smaller one on the left one added getting close to Drew, "You know what happens to the people that don't repay their debt." They moved closer to Drew in a menacing way.
"NO!" He shouted, " But I can't! I can't lose the only friends- no the only family I've ever had!" By now Drew was on his knee full out wailing, the tear was running down his dirt streak cheeks as the hooded figure continued to move closer.
"You can and you will!" The taller one demanded as it grabbed Drews arm and twisted an unnatural way.
Drew grimaced and said, "Fine, I will! I'll do it please don't hurt me! I'll do whatever you want!" He continued to yelp as the figure twisted his arm further.
"Good," The smaller figure said as the taller one released his arm, "We want you to tell us everything those little delinquents do and don't let them realize you aren't one of them until he comes."
At those words, my whole world turned upside down. To think I trust one person and that person betrays me! Figures! I turned around and just ran, the anger pulsing through my veins! I can't handle this, I thought he was with us! I thought he was like us! I just wanna- I wanna ugh! I fell to my knees as it became uncontrollable. Lightning was striking everywhere as the heat became unbearable. The weather was going absolutely berserk but there was nothing I could do about it, I still wanted to kill him! I stood up, with my eyes probably pitch black, and started to walk back toward Drew. Soon enough my walk turned into an all-out sprint. I brushed right past the place I was formally standing and right to the figures that were still yelling at Drew mercilessly.
"Drew!" I shouted. One of the figures tried to grab me but I turned around and showed them my eyes and with that they scattered. "What have you done!" I screamed making my way over to him not caring if he was shaking with fear.
"I-I had to," he squeaked, "They would have killed me! I didn't want to but hey would have killed the last person I cared about! They would have killed my baby brother! I couldn't just watch them kill him when I could do something! They killed both of my parents right in front of me, I wasn't about to watch him get killed too! I had to do something and I'm sorry I did it but they said he'd be safe as long as I did what they said!"
He continued to back away from me still freely crying, but I didn't care, did I? I mean what had this poor kid been through, obviously more than me. I felt my eyes start to turn back and the weather stop before I said, "Are you going to do it?"
"Do what?" he asked still sniffling but now standing still.
"Give them what they want!" I yelled still seething.
"I don't have a choice!" he fired back flinching a bit as my eyes flashed back to black.
"Yes, you do!" I countered as lightning struck a nearby tree making Drew cringe, " You can stay with us, and help us fight them!"
"What about my brother? Do you want him to be killed?!" He argued back throwing his arms in the air accidentally stopping a few birds that were flying overhead, "Well do you!"
"I don't want anybody to die!" I scoffed as a few more lighting strikes rained down, "But you know that's pretty hard to accomplish when you have a traitor telling your enemy about every move you make!"
Drew just looked me straight in eyes before saying, "We-I have to stop them. They can't kill him, he's all of I have left!"
"And we will stop them." I reassured him, "But I can't help you before I know you are 100 percent on our side no questions asked." I stared at him waiting for an answer, even though he betrayed me I still cared about him. I just hope he comes with us, I don't want to have to end up fighting and possibly killing him.
"I-I just can't!" he screamed and before I even had the chance to flip out he raised his right hand and said, "I'm sorry Alex."
He's gone, was all I could think as the finale realization hit me like a brick. The kid I had thought of as a brother had betrayed me and rendered me practically helpless. I really thought that he would help us but apparently not. People have lied and deceived me my entire life but never like this. Through all of this I couldn't help but have one thought cross my mind; if Drew wasn't the other who was? They had to have had the dream, right? So they must be here, but what if they were just another person who would deceive us like Drew. I can't deal with this anymore! The constant wondering, worrying, and trying to figure out who wants to help us and who wants to kill us! I just wish things could go back to the way they were! I would much rather have Zayn bullying me and my parent believing every word he said! I just wish I was normal, that I could wake up every morning dreading school instead of being happy that I'm still alive! Complaining about going to bed early instead of waking up on the ground in the middle of some jungle! At least I know I'll always have Lynn and hopefully Sammy and Thomas. I just know they are with us why else would Drew go to these lengths to try and meet up with them. So together with them, we can be different. Together we are The Misfits, and I don't care who knows it! With that last uplifting thought, I fell to the ground, Drew must have been too far away to hold me in place any longer.
I had no idea how long it had been since he had frozen me but I guessed it was a pretty long time, so I started walking. I took forever for me to find my way back but I did, and when I did Lynn enveloped me in a bear hug.
"Where have you been Alex! It has been two days!" She shouted pulling back from the hug.
My eyes widened as I shouted, "Two days, why I should just kill that little-"
"Wait for a second," Sammy said looking around, "Where is the other one? Where is Drew?"
I drew a long deep breath in trying not to explode and completely destroy everything around me.
"Yeah," Thomas added, " Where is he? He told me that we would play a game?" The three stared at me waiting for an answer.
I took in another deep breath closing my eyes. When I opened them I assumed they were still black from the gasps everyone let out but I still said, "It's fine I'll tell you, but you might want to sit down for this one. Preferably spread out and fairly far away from me."
They all nodded as they got into position not daring to question me at the moment. I prepared to tell them what had just happened and hopefully not kill anybody in the process.
