Surrender- 25
Sammy's POV
"Sammy?" Thomas asked popping his head through the tent. I groaned as the light hit my eyes.
"Thomas, why are you up so early?" I questioned sitting up and pushing off the makeshift blanket I had.
Thomas and I had to share a tent since there was nobody else he could or wanted to stay with. Theo and Lynn were paired with two other people around their age. Poor Lynn. I still couldn't believe what happened to Drew. Sure, he wasn't my favorite person in the world, but he did save us. That's good enough for me.
"Sammy did you hear me," Thomas inquired now less than an inch away from me. I swear this kid knows no boundaries.
"Uh, not quite. Can you repeat, maybe a bit slower and farther away from me," I asked and sorta answered, pushing him back a bit. It may seem a little harsh, but I was dreaming of home. Oh, how I wish I was home.
"Fine," Thomas sighed backing up and sitting Indian- style, "So I was eating breakfast with the other younger kids when Alex a Zayn came up to me with Lynn too. They said that there is a bug in me that need to be taken out. They said that Drew had one too and that they might have them. I don't really get it. Am I sick?"
I tried to whip the expression of shock on my face before answering him, "No you are not sick, you will be fine. Did Alex and Zayn say anything else to you?"
To say I was mad that they told him and not him was the understatement of the year.
He seemed to be thinking hard before he said, "They also said they need to talk to you and Theo. Something about taking the bug out. The one with green eyes said something about his dad too. But I wasn't really listening because some people were training and it was cool."
What am I going to do with this kid?
"Thanks for telling me, Thomas. Also, make sure you change that shirt, you've been wearing for the past two days. Don't pretend you don't have another one because I know for a fact that nice lady Susan gave all of us bags with clothes and stuff."
Thomas rolled his eyes and said, "Fine, but I want to play with Claire first. We like to pretend we are training for the war. She has laser eyes so it hurts but it's still fun!"
Before I can even tell him to be careful he runs out of the tent smiling. I wish I could be that carefree. The war took that from me though. I should probably see what Alex and Zayn need to say. I'll get Theo too, I'm sure Thomas didn't go and tell him.
I put some new clothes on and put my hair up quickly. I then tried to remember where Theo's tent was. I know that it's on the edge of the tents. I started walking in the general direction. It's funny how familiar these surrounding have become to me. I love it and hate it at the same time. Oh, well there's nothing I can do about it. We just have to win this war and everything will be able to go back to normal. I was just about to reach the outer tent when I hear screaming.
I started to sprint to the source, using some of the speed from my cheetah form. From what I could tell the screaming was coming from the cluster of tents right near a grove of tall trees. Wait, I remember those trees from somewhere, don't I?
I didn't stop to ponder that for long now really close to the screaming. A boy about Theo's age and two younger girls all came flying out of one tent. The boy had blood on his dark hands.
"Help us!" he yelled at me signaling me over.
I ran over to them worry etching my features.
"What's wrong? Is everybody okay?"
The girls immediately shake their heads as the boy answers, "Somebodies in there he's really hurt he needs help. I'm going to get a healer. The person he shares a tent with is trying to help but there is only so much he can do."
"Then go," I almost yell at the boy.
He takes off running towards the healers. I turn to the cowering girls, they don't look much older than Lynn. Lynn! What if she's the one in there! Wait they said it was boy and Lynn was with Alex and Zayn, calm down.
I turn the girls, "Do you who's in there," I ask pointing to the tent.
They both shake their heads. I sigh frustrated.
"I'm going in!" I declare running into the tent but immediately regretting it.
Besides an incredibly bloody body, I see a maybe 16-year-old boy.
"What going on?" I ask him grabbing for anything to cover the many stab wounds.
I couldn't make out who the person was because how bloody they were, but the build looked familiar. I had never seen this much blood before.
"I don't know! I woke up to him like this with a note next to him. He's barely breathing! I don't know what do!"
The boy seemed super worried about making me worried too. I didn't want this poor person to die!
"Do you know who it is?" I asked frantically looking for something else to stop the bleeding with.
"His name starts with like a T or something. I didn't get to know the guy well. I feel so bad I should've heard what was happening. This is allmyfaulIdon't-"
His sentence went on but I didn't hear it. I dropped everything in my hands and stood to stare in disbelief. The trees, the similar age boy, the build.
"Are you okay?" the boy asked trying to keep his attention on the blood.
"Theo," I whispered as the world shut down around me.
'That's his name! How did you know?!"
The confirmation made me feel even worse. I quickly ran out of the tent searching for a healer. He isn't dying. He can't. I could hear the boy yelling from behind me but I didn't care.
"Help!" I cried running through the woods, "We need a healer now! Help!"
People started coming out of their tents and looking for the source of the noise.
I ran over to a group of people and asked, "Do you know a healer? I need one bad, now! Or else somebody's going to die."
They all shook their heads but began to help me look for one. Just when I was about to run back and check on Theo the boy came running back with a middle-aged man and Aunt Carol.
"This way," I yelled to them running to the tent.
I can't waste any time. I can't even think about will happen if I do. When we reached the tent I ran inside and saw the boy crying on the ground.
"You're too late. He's gone," he whispered letting out another sob.
I feel to my knees and began crying uncontrollably. The healer and Aunt Carol ran in along with the other boy. The all had expressions of shock on their faces.
"You have to do something," I yelled at the healer, " You have to! He can't die! You have to fix him!"
The healer looks at me sympathetically, "I'm sorry there is nothing I can do. He's gone."
I let out another loud sob. He's gone. He's gone. The words repeated in my head. They felt like knives.
I hug Theo's bloody body, "You can't be gone. I'm sorry. I'm not mad at you for hurting Alex. I love you, Theo. I love you! Please hear me. Say something! Anything, please. You can't leave your mother or me. Don't go. Please don't go!"
Somebody hugged me from behind.
"It's okay Sammy." The young voice said.
I turned around and hugged Thomas back, crying into him. Behind him stood Alex, Zayn, and Lynn. All giving me sad looks. That just made me cry more.
He's gone.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
After having to be torn away from Theo I took a long walk to clear my head. The pain I feel in unbelievable, but I made a promise to myself to keep it together in front of everybody. I can't have them seeing me as they did today again. I just miss him so bad.
I began walking back to camp. I still need to talk to Alex and Zayn. I can't push important things off because of this. I can mourn when this is over. Maybe I'll convince Thomas to share with someone else tonight. I made my way through the crowds of people as they whispered and pointed at me. I tried to block them out but it was nearly impossible. Luckily just as I was about to snap I saw Alex, Zayn, and Lynn talking.
I quickly speed-walked over to them and before any of them could say anything I said, "Don't say anything. No sympathy. No pity. Nothing. Let's just figure out this bug situation."
"Okay," Zayn replied, "So we know that anybody who has ever been in the mansion has a bug. So that means me, Alex, Thomas, and Drew all have one."
Then Lynn interjected saying, "The two problem we have are; one, Drew's-" Lynn's voice cracked and she stopped. We all of the gist though, and I got the feeling. Maybe we could talk sometime. "And two," she began again, "There might be other people here that have the bugs. So I don't know how we are going to figure out who has them."
Alex finished it off by saying, "We also need to tell Aunt Carol this, but I really don't want to," Alex gestured to his arm before saying, "Zayn really shouldn't' either so you an Lynn need to tell her before our parents come back with their army."
I nodded at Lynn to get going but then Zayn called out my name.
"One more thing," he said hesitantly, "my father might not be evil and I have his trust. Also, my grandparent's kingdom might not be destroyed. I'll explain later just go and tell-"
At that moment the same dark-skinned boy that went to get the healer came running in our direction with Aunt Carol. Kinda perfect if you ask me. But you could visibly see both Alex and Zayn's eyes darken along with the clouds. Right on cue, Lynn stood between them telling them to knock it off.
The boy shoved a note into my hand and said, "This was the note found with Theo."
I tried not to lose it as I read the note.
Dear annoying brats,
We told you we'd be back. Too bad Alex and Zayn didn't give themselves up before something else bad happened. Don't be too sad Sammy, he didn't deserve you anyway. Who will it be next? Maybe Thomas? He's quite the little rascal. Thomas it is! Surrender now Alex and Zayn or else we will kill Thomas within the next few days. Also, we'll be attacking soon so be ready.
Hugs and kisses,
Mommy
Tears started flowing down my face as I shoved the note into Zayn's chest and began walking away. Unlucky for me Aunt Carol followed.
"We will kill her Sammy doesn't worry. Theodore didn't die for nothing," she remarked stopping me in my tracks.
I whipped around and glared at her. I then snapped, "What did he die for then, tell me. If you are the all-knowing then tell me!"
"I can't. All I can say is it wasn't for nothing. I can tell you first-hand both of my nephews want to kill her for you and so does Thomas. We'll find her," she gave me a determined look.
"As long as we're giving advice," I started not know what her reaction would be, "you need to learn to actually care about people. Not pretend like you do. We all know what you did to Drew and it makes me sick. Fix things with Alex and Zayn and tell them the truth. All of it because I know your lying. Plus, I'm killing her. Brutally."
Aunt Carol gave me a look of shock before I turned around and walked away. I finally let my claws and fangs come out and this time turned into a grey wolf. I wanted to do some hunting and that works better in wolf form.
It's also good for other things. I ran as fast as I could to the center of the woods. I then stopped and pulled my head back. I let out a howl filled with sorrow, pain, and sadness because that's what I felt. I could hear it echoing through the woods and I know everybody else could too.
The weird thing is I didn't even care. They can think whatever they want about me now I just don't care anymore. I don't care because he's gone. I know he wouldn't want me to do think, but I don't care. I'm taking this one night to be sad and then I'm done. Then I'm not thinking about how much I miss him until after this is over.
I took off running again not caring where I was going. Anywhere far away from where I was. I cleared my head and just ran because that was one thing I could do.
Run.
