Surprise-13

Samantha's POV

I can't believe that little brown-haired kid was an inside spy! Alex just finished filling us in on what had happened and judging by Lynn's demeanor and Alex's eye color they were furious at what that kid had done. Thomas didn't really understand when we tried to explain it to him so we just summed it up to Drew had to leave and wasn't coming back. That statement seemed to suffice for him but certainly not for the rest of us.

"What should we do about him?" Alex commented while taking a deep breath to try to calm himself down. Although his efforts were futile he repeated the action multiple time before continuing through gritted teeth with, "Where do you think he went? To go reported back to whoever his leader is?"

"I don't know," Lynn said grabbing a banana from the large bunch and handing it to Thomas who immediately ceased his complaining, " I really think we should try and find the actual other before we walk into a possible war zone."

"Me too," I agreed also taking a banana and beginning to unpeel it, "No matter how much I wanna rip that kid apart for betraying you I think we gather our own army before we challenge theirs." I turned my head toward Thomas stuffing his face with another banana, he then tried to smile at me but failed miserably. He is seriously the cutest thing I have ever met! Anyway back to the heavy stuff.

"That's the thing!" Alex exclaimed leaping off the insect-filled dirt, " Who is the other? If it isn't Drew then who is it?"

That statement made us all think, although the possibilities were quite slim due to the large population of regular homo-sapiens around us. There was only a couple of other kids I knew that were well gifted, but all of them were evil, except for him. Nope, it can't be him! Snap out of it Sammy!

"Well," Lynn started the only people we know that are kinda sorta not evil are Izzy, Patrica, Lia, and Matt. What about them?"

Alex seemed to ponder the list of names I've never heard before saying, " It can't be Matt he's in too well with my parents and Izzy, Patrica, and Lia's lives are too well normal for them to be like us. Remember how all of us have to have something that makes us different in order for us to be an other?"

Lynn smacked her head before remarking, "Oh yeah I forgot! Forget it then it can't be any of them," She then looked at me and smiled like a lightbulb had gone off in her head or something, "What about you Sammy there had to be people like us where you lived, anyone you think could be an other?"

I just sat there thinking for a second. Should I tell them about him? I miss him but if he isn't the other then I have to share something that's super personal for nothing. But what if he is the other? Why does this have to be so complicated? After all of the contemplating, I decided not to tell them, it's for the best, isn't it? "Ummm there's nobody I can think of that's not evil. You guys may think that just because I live-well used to live in a different area than you that I don't know who Alex's parents are. Everybody knows who his parents are and trust me it not because they are friendly." Glad I didn't totally blow the lie I turned to Alex and Lynn who were staring at me wide-eyed. "What is it?" I asked turning around.

"It's not really what it is it's kind of more of a lack of something." Lynn hinted as she diverted her eyes from me and started to kick the dirt.

Whats that suppose to mean? A lack of something, what am I lacking? "What do you mean?" I asked turning my head to Alex hoping he'd be more helpful.

"Well," He started also diverting his eyes from me, "Thomas isn't really like exactly here anymore." He cringed back as I soaked in the brand new information.

"Okay," I said calmly when inside I was freaking out, "Where do you think he could be?"

"Funny story actually," Lynn remarked, "Remember those three girls we were talking about earlier?

I nodded, "But what do they have to do with any of this? Didn't you say that they were 'kinda sorta not evil.'"

"Yeah," she continued still lacking eye contact, "Well kinda sorta doesn't mean not at all. Anyways those girls happen to have helpful kidnapping powers. Lia has invisibility, Paige has the power to silence all of the surroundings except for what she wants you to hear, and Izzy has super speed. Another thing I forgot to mention about them is I think they might all know the leader Drew was talking about."

"But why would they take Thomas?!" I asked in a very panicked voice, he was just a little boy!

"He's kinda little so he is the easiest to take." Alex offered. Yeah, that didn't help me feel better! He saw I didn't like that response and said, "Well there's also the fact that since he's younger he has less pain tolerance so they can get him to talk faster."

"Not helping!" I seethed as I jumped off of the ground and tore through the thick woods. I just need to find him, I thought as I picked up speed. I didn't really care that Alex and Lynn were following behind me while calling my name. Somewhere deep down inside I knew I couldn't find him because I knew the people who took him had superspeed on their side. But I couldn't just give up as long as I knew there was a possibility that they were hurting him! I kept running as the possibilities of what they were doing with him were running through my clouded head. Then I had a better idea of how to get there faster. I then leaped into the air transforming into an enormous cheetah. I sprinted through the forest at top speed not caring where I was going. I continued to run as the trees and other wildlife blurred past. But just as I was plotting on how to get Thomas back something flashed in front of me but I wasn't able to stop before I crashed into it causing me to blackout.

I groaned as the feeling came back to my body. My eyes flitted open but when the sunlight attacked my eyes I immediately closed them and groaned once again. I tried to roll over onto my stomach but something stopped me in doing so. I opened my eyes only to be face to face with an unconscious Lynn. I shrieked as I backed up right into another thing, I then turned around and shrieked once more as I saw yet another unconscious body looking back at me. I stood up to get a better look at Alex and Lynn before I decided it might be a good idea to check their pulses. Lucky for me high school health class had taught me something so I put my middle and pointer finger just below Lynn's chin on the side of her neck. I gave a sigh of relief at the tiny bumps I felt. I did the same to Alex and was further relieved because he too had a pulse. I then decided to check their bodies for any life threating injuries when I saw nothing but a couple scrapes and bruises I went to check myself. I trekked over to the small stream that was nearby to hopefully see my reflection. When I pulled my long brown hair out of the way I gasped at my reflection. There was a long jagged cut along my cheek! I then started to splash water on my otherwise perfect complexion. As I cleaned the dirt and blood off of my face I thought of how I was going to wake up Alex and Lynn. I then pulled a large leaf off of one of the trees inspected if for bugs and then held it on my gash hoping it would stop the bleeding. I stared at my reflection feeling completely isolated from the entire world. Why did all of this have to happen to me? Did I really deserve all of this pain and suffering? I had a semi-great life before this, but everyone had their problems right? Now I just have to sit here hoping that the little boy I thought of as my brother wasn't hurt or worse dead. Not to mention that two of my friends were unconscious. But above all my little sister is probably in hysterics because I'm gone. I hope that my foster parents are trying to help her. They don't always understand her since she has Autism and an array of other things. I'm the only person who understands her and her needs in this world. She is bullied all the time and it absolutely crushes me inside when she comes home crying about the insensitive things her classmates said. Although, she is only nine she understand what the older kids mean when they say mean things about her, she's not dumb! I remember this one time when she came home and looked at me with these glassy tear-stained eyes and said, "Why does everyone hate me?" After that thought, I broke into tears right there and then. I screamed as the tears continued to stream down my face. Why do all the people I cared about the most have to be either taken away from me? What did I do to deserve all of this, because it must be pretty terrible? I then wiped my eyes to rid them of the tears and stopped my little pity party.

I stood up to check on Lynn and Alex again. I checked both of there pulse again just to make sure both of them were still alive when I saw they were still breathing I went to look for food. Despite having that banana earlier I was still hungry. I walked deeper into the forest making sure to mentally mark where I was going. I searched for a while before I saw a bush full of these little berries. Wait, I've seen these before these are Acai berries I love these! I picked some off of the bush and popped them into my mouth, mmmm yummy! I kept eating the tasty berries until I was fully satisfied. I then thought it might be a good idea to grab some in case Alex and Lynn happen to wake up, or if I get hungry again. So I grabbed some leaves and vine and weaved a sort of makeshift basket out of them. It wasn't very aesthetically please but I knew it would the job, so I continued plucking more berries from the bush. The basket started to get heavy when it was about halfway full, so I stopped picking and checked for holes in the basket. Even though there weren't any apparent flaws in my design I decided to reinforce it anyway, so I grabbed more leaves and vine and wrapped around the basket once more. Once I was satisfied with my final design I started my long trek back to where Alex and Lynn were.

I already passed this rock twice didn't I? That tree also looks familiar, doesn't it! So yeah I think its pretty safe to say I'm lost. I guess I didn't pick very memorable landmarks after all, oops. Just as I passed them same rock for the whatever amount of times I heard a twig snap behind me. I turned to that spot just to hear leaves crunch in another direction. "Who's there?" I called to the wind hoping I wasn't having a hallucination. I heard another twig snap but this time it was much closer. "Hello?" I asked, "Who is there?"

"Well," a voice called, "It's not a surprise if I tell you now is it?"

My heart started beating twice as hard as it should, as I called back, "I guess not but something you should know about me is I hate surprises."

"Toche," the voice said as a body followed it out of the woods. What really surprised me was how similar this person looked to Alex. He had the same dark black hair and was tall like Alex but instead of Alex's innocent blue eyes this guy had piercing green ones. "Who-Who are you?" I managed to stutter out as the boy that was a bit taller than I stepped forward.

"Really you haven't figured it out yet? I figured someone as smart and as old as you would have," he smirked really wide before he continued cockily with, "Well if you must know I'm Alex's twin brother Zayn."

My mouth dropped open with his words, I just couldn't believe it. Alex really hadn't had the time to fill me in on him all he said was that Zayn was evil. My eye widens as I thought of another possibility.

He saw the surprised look on my face and chuckled before saying, "Well I guess I can see why you don't like surprises."
