Stable-26
Alex's POV
"What are we going to do?"
I let Zayn's question hang in the air as I folded my hands over my chest. The ground felt hard under the tents thin floor, but at least we had something separating us and the wilderness. Although, we never had problems with the animals before. They must know we're different too.
"About what," I asked back, "our parents or Aunt Carol? Do you really trust her? Or am I the only one that's suspicious of her?"
Zayn sighed as he sat up grabbing his thin blanket from his bag. Well, at least Aunt Carol had one good idea.
"Be honest Alex. Do you even trust me? I don't trust anybody. I say when we get out of this war we leave. We take Lynn, Sammy, and Thomas and leave."
I grabbed the flashlight Zayn was using to look through his bag and put it between us, so that we could see each other as we spoke. I think this conversation is going to last for a while.
I looked Zayn in the eye before saying, "You're right I don't trust anybody either. But I think right now we need to trust each other. We can get over our problems later, if there is a later. I don't want to die not trusting anybody. Theo might be dead but at least he died loving somebody. Drew died alone. We all like to pretend that he didn't, but we still didn't trust him. I don't want that."
Zayn looked surprised at what I said and to be honest I was too.
"I don't wanna talk about death right now. Let's talk about something useful," Zayn said running his hair through his very tangled hair.
I grabbed my blanket as well starting to get a bit cold. After all it's raining outside. Zayn and I thought it would be a good idea not to change the natural weather because that would confuse the surrounding animals. We did it on a few occasions anyway but today we let it rain.
I nodded before saying, "I agree," I thought for a moment before asking, "what do you think about Aunt Carol's plan for the bugs?"
Zayn let out a laugh before replying, "I think she's insane. How can we possibly use Lynn's bracelet to identify all of the people with the bugs? I know she's trying to be careful of inside spy's but how do we know she isn't one herself?"
"We know that because she is literally the leader off the good side. We may not agree with all of her decisions. Well? most of them. But some of them have been for the good of us all, haven't they?
Zayn didn't answer but instead looked at me with an, angry expression? What's he thinking about?
"Haven't they Zayn? What's wrong with you? Answer me," with that I grabbed Zayn shoulders.
Zayn pushed my hands off of him looking angry and hurt? What the heck is going on here?
"What's wrong with me is that innocent people shouldn't die!" Zayn yelled standing up and bursting through the tent opening.
Zayn's outburst surprised me based on his prior demeanor. He never cared about this before, did he? He was evil, what changed? He didn't care about anybody and now he does?
I ran after Zayn, not giving up on him this time. I followed him through the woods, all the way to the river. The rushing water was calming, but the rain falling on me made me agitated.
"Zayn, why did you change? What made you change? You always beat around the bush but now I want to know! Tell me the truth! Why?"
Zayn turned to me and I couldn't tell whether tears were falling from his eyes or if it was just rain. But I'm pretty sure they were tears.
He seemed to be trying to control himself as he said, "I can't remember! I can't remember anything, nothing! Ironically, I just remembered that I can't remember anything."
What does he mean by that? He can't remember? He knows who he is, and he knows who I am. What can't he remember?
"I can't remember why I changed and that's because I didn't," Zayn looked almost conflicted as he mad his way towards me.
Then realization hit me like a brick wall.
"They hypnotized you," I half asked, half stated in disbelief.
"I don't know and that's what bothers me! My father knows he was hypnotized, why don't I," Zayn looked utterly distraught and I didn't know what to do.
"But I wasn't. Why would they hypnotize you and not me?"
All of the sudden Zayn looked like he found the missing last piece of a puzzle.
He ran towards me and said, "They only hypnotized the kids that needed it, that's what he said. What did I see, or hear that I wasn't supposed to?"
Zayn's logic seemed believable but what could he possibly have seen that we hadn't see before? Are parents were trying to make us evil so why would erase his mind of something? They wanted us to be insane. But, then again, it might not have been our parents who wanted it. It could have been The Killer. What would he want to hide though?
"How much do you remember," I asked hopefully.
He looked kinda surprised, "When did I start torturing you?"
I thought back. It probably started when we were seven or eight. And now that I think about it, it was kinda sudden. But how would a child notice that kind of thing?
"Uhh," I stuttered struggling to remember the exact age and time, "I think I was when we were eight. We were playing and then you went inside to get something, I don't remember what. I heard a scream, but that was pretty normal based on where we lived. After a bit longer you came out, looking different. Emotionless almost. I think we were playing tag so you came after me. I thought we were still playing, but apparently we weren't because when you tagged me you electrocuted me so bad I was in the mansions hospital for a week even with a healer. I didn't have my powers yet so it makes sense because I couldn't heal as fast as I can now with them."
We just stood there in silence listening to the rain pattering and the river rushing. Both not sure of what to say to each other.
"So basically what we just figured out is that my entire life is a lie," Zayn concluded falling to the ground, putting his face into his hands.
I wanted to tell him otherwise but Zayn was right. But I'm trying to wrap my head around it. I now just have to accept what he did to me without any answer why. Life isn't fair and it never will be.
"Yup," I agreed sitting down next to him trying to ring out my shirt, "do you think they'd notice if I stopped the rain?"
Silence.
"Come on Zayn you have to say something," I prodded scooting close to him.
Nothing.
"I'm stopping the rain and then we're walking to Lynn and telling her this. Got it? She needs to know that you aren't really like what everybody thought you were."
Zayn all of the suddenly spoke up, "She can't know," he looked at me hoping for me to agree. When I didn't he changed the subject, " yeah let's stop this rain it's annoying. The last thing I need right now is to lose control and I'm really close. I can feel the buildup and it's worse than I've ever had it before.
Now that I think I can feel it too. But that doesn't matter right now.
Alrighty then, stopping the storm first. I really don't want Zayn to explode right now, I don't know if I'll be able to stop him. But why doesn't he want me to tell Lynn? Hmmm.
"You wanna do it or me," I asked standing up ready for him to say for me to do it.
"I got it. Since I feel like I'm going to explode from overload of power I think I should get rid of some," Zayn said practically gutturally.
Yikes. I can't say I know what that feels like. I've never had it that bad.
"Okay," I agreed secretly a bit scared not too.
Zayn jumped to his feet his eyes darkening, "warm, but still night-time, right?"
"Well seeing that it's dark and we can't change the cycle of day, yes," I answered in a duh-tone.
Zayn looked as thought he was about to snap at me, "Alex, right now might not be the best time for sarcasm, okay?"
I put my hands up on mock surrender. Zayn then nodded as if to signify that he was going to do it now. His eyes turned the darkest I've ever seen them. The looked like black holes, vantablack. Before he even raised his right hand the rain ceased and the weather was warm.
"How did you do that," I asked almost afraid.
He looked down at his hands before frantically saying, "I d-don't know. I didn't even- oh God!"
Zayn then feel to the ground and groaned. What do I even do? He shouldn't be this mad he never reacts like this.
Zayn groaned again before saying, "Matt controlled your mind to stand still while I punched you repeatedly," Zayn struggles to get up, "I feel like I'm going to explode! Alex help!"
"What does that mean," I asked but for no answer as Zayn groaned again.
"I don't know what to do," I called out rushing to him, "umm, let's go get Aunt Carol."
I tried to grabbed Zayn's arm, but was met with a burn that made my skin sizzle. That's definitely a problem.
"Okay change of plans," I started my eyes darkening, "I'm going to freeze you to the point of near-death and then drag you to Aunt Carol. Sound good?"
I began to think about everything I had to be sad and angry about and channeled that into the power I needed. And from the looks of Zayn that was going to need to be a lot.
Zayn looked surprised and quickly tried to reason with me. Well between groans that is, "No Alex don't I can do it I-"
Just then all of the water from the river rose up into the clouds. Followed by several flashes of lightning and claps of thunder. So much for no rain.
"Yeah it's kinda to late for you to control yourself so I'm freezing you! Yay!"
I channeled all of the thoughts of Drew, Theo, my parents, and memories of Zayn. I then thought of a blizzard and instead of raising my hand and creating the weather, I grabbed Zayn and forced it inside of him.
He screamed out in pain before yelling, "Alex stop I'm gonna die!"
I wanted to stop, to even answer him but I knew I couldn't. He was like a bomb waiting to go off. Zayn started struggling and sending electricity through me instead of the sky, but I couldn't stop. The rain was pouring on me not helping the shocks.
"Zayn do you want me to accidentally kill you or for me to die or are you just having fun?"
All of the sudden Zayn started shaking. I didn't know if it was from anger or the sud-zero temperatures I was putting him through.
"Alex I can't! It's too much! I'm going to-"
Zayn's eyes started glowing pale green. It was like his normal color green but glowing. Then Zayn fell limp and I caught him before he fell to the ground.
Still shocked, I began dragging him back to camp. I really didn't wanna bring him to Aunt Carol but I had too. It began to get harder to drag Zayn, seeing that he's bigger than me it made sense. I was about halfway back when I realized there was no way I was getting Zayn back. It's too far for somebody to hear me yell. I definitely don't want to leave Zayn here while I leave to get somebody. I growled in frustration, pacing back and forth.
Wait, we can channel our power, right? So then can I take some from him? Then I'll be able to carry him back and maybe It'll even help him a little bit. Well I guess there's only one way to find out.
I squatted beside Zayn and grabbed his arm, "This might hurt a bit," I mumbled under my breath.
I then began to try to do what I would do to channel our powers but in reverse. I felt the power and strength rush through my veins, telling me it worked. When the power stared to overwhelm me I let go. If this is only a fraction of what Zayn is feeling I better move fast. Really fast.
I put Zayn's arm over my shoulder and began to speed- walk back to camp. I think the sun was starting to rise but it was hard to tell with the weather going absolutely berserk. I was so close to camp. Just a few more steps and I could get help. Just as I thought I was in the clear I heard screaming and fighting. Things never cease to come at the perfect timing, do they?
I had no chose but to warm Zayn up. I can't go in there blind and alone. I put both hand on his shoulders and let the warmth flow through him.
Zayn let out a gasp before saying, "I'm going to kill you!"
I took a step back before saying, "First of all my arm just healed. Second, our parents and their entire army are back and we need to go help. Are you stable enough to go and help?"
I was answered with Zayn doubling over and groaning. I tried to help him up but I was met with a burning sensation and stepped away. Zayn then stood up as straight as he could, grimacing. All of the emotion on his face looked as though is vanished as he looked into my eyes.
He looked confused and a bit worried before he asked through clenched teeth, "why are your eyes glowing?"
That's when I notice the power inside of me starting to overload. This is getting bad fast.
I was super worried as I asked, "what color?"
He purposely sent a bunch of lighting in all directions before answering, "blue."
Great. Suddenly a figure came running through the woods. Zayn and I were ready to defend ourselves before we saw who it was.
"There you guys are! We have been looking for you everywhere! What is wrong with him? Why are your eyes glowing? Are you guys okay?"
Zayn doubled over again while giving Lynn a thumbs up and saying, "I'm sorry for bullying you for not having parents in fourth grade."
How does he remember that? Then something clicked. He's remembering what he did but how?
"I promise I'll explain everything later Lynn, but right now we need to get Zayn to Aunt Carol. I have an idea of what going on but I need confirmation. Teleport us there?"
Lynn nodded.
I grabbed her hand while saying, "you need to do this fast so Zayn or even I don't electrocute you to death, alright?"
"Yeah I got it. Ready?" she answered.
I nodded in confirmation.
She then moved over to Zayn and grabbed his hand, hopefully bringing us to our destination.
