Chapter 62-Consent.
"Where did you go? What did you do? Tell me... Please.. Tell me... I'm very curious." Olivia insisted for the sixth time.
Ambar sighed witnessing her desperation.
Thankfully Vashisht was fast asleep in his room.
The poor soul didn't even get to drink a glass of water since the time she entered the apartment because Olivia persistently bothered her to get all the details.
"Tell me or else... or else-"
"Okay... Okay... No need to threaten me. I'll tell you." Ambar immediately shut her and she sat up straight.
"Great, go on."
"Okay... We went to a fair."
"A fair?" Olivia's eyebrows got raised up immediately.
"Yes." Ambar replied smiling shyly.
"A fair?"
"Yes... Yes.. a fair. He took me to a fair, Olivia." She confirmed it twice.
"Are you kidding me? Who goes to a fair on their first date?" She sounded baffled, "With all that crowd, noises and what not?" She scrunched her nose but still Ambar didn't lose her smile.
"It wasn't perfect but it was beyond that." She mumbled, grinning.
"Oh! So something happened, isn't it?" Olivia teased her.
"Did you guys kissed?" She immediately asked her.
"Nope." Ambar shook her head.
"Then?" She queried.
"We rode on a bike then we played a lot of games there and he even ordered a pizza for me." Ambar narrated.
"What! That's it?" Olivia couldn't be more exasperated.
"Oh yes and he also sang a song..." She quickly added.
"Oh Amy! Sorry to say but your date was highly unromantic..." Olivia muttered.
"For me it wasn't." She smiled to herself remembering his song.
"What?" Olivia asked puzzled.
"Nothing... I'm sleepy and I also have an early class tomorrow." She told her.
"Okay Amy. Next time, I would suggest you some place. Now you need to rest. Good night sweetie. Sleep tight." Olivia wished Ambar before joining her boyfriend who was fast asleep in his bedroom.
"Good night."
------------------------------------------------
The silence was evident on the breakfast table.
Even Aakash was able to notice it.
They weren't even sparing a glance to each other's face.
Finally Aakash decided to ask them.
"Why are you both so quiet?" The little kid peered at their respective face.
"Huh?" Amrita looked up from her plate to meet his befogged face.
"What happened Amrita Maa?" He questioned her.
She smiled at how cutely he asked.
"Nothing Aakash. Aren't you getting late for your school?" She changed the subject and helped him to finish his meals.
"Good boy." She pulled his cheeks and he whined.
"Okay! I'm going to get ready now." Aakash stood up instantly.
"Wait. Let me help you." Amrita was about to follow him but he stopped her by showing his small palm, "No. I'm a big boy, I'll get ready on my own." He spoke and rushed to his room.
Amrita exhaled and shook her head.
As she spun around, her throat went dry.
She didn't knew, what to say?
And on top of it, his constant gaze was already making her nervous and uncomfortable.
She started cleaning the table when he finally put an end to his silence.
"Amrita!" His voice itself had the power to make her go week on her knees.
She finally looked into his eyes which was quite hard to read.
"We need to talk."
This sentence always raised an alarm in her head and today it was not of any difference.
Scared by his rejection, she found some courage to respond him.
"I know whatever happened yesterday. It all happened in the spur of moment. I don't want you to feel any sort of burden because of me. It's not mandatory-" She confidently voiced out.
"No.. I'm not going to back out. I won't ever go against my promise. That's not my trait." He uttered, cutting her statement in the middle and she nodded.
"So... how do we go about?" He queried nervously.
"I want to talk to my parents first." She set forth.
"Are you sure about this?" He quirked her brows at her.
"Yes... They need to know." She told him without any ounce of expression on her face.
"Okay... Do you want me to come with you?" He asked her softly.
She finally smiled at him.
"Would you?"
"Yes, of course." He replied.
"Thank you." She bobbed her head.
"We can go after dropping Aakash at school." He suggested.
"Alright, I'll check what Aakash is doing." She spoke and sprinted away.
After she was gone, he fished out his phone from his pocket and called that one person, to whom he feared to talk about the whole thing.
He felt his heartbeats race as he neared the phone to his ear.
After few rings, his call got finally answered.
"Mayank?" Her voice made him shiver.
"Mom!" He let out weakly.
"Yes son... Are you okay?" Her tone was laced with concern.
"Mom!" With every passing second, he started to dread.
This wasn't going to be easy and he knew it.
"Mayank! You're scaring me. Dear, what's wrong?" Her shrill got raspy.
He inhaled sharply.
"Mom... I'm getting married."
------------------------------------------------
"Hey!" He halted the car where she had been waiting for him.
"Hey!" She felt her cheeks heating up.
"How was your day?" He asked her.
"Fabulous." She replied cheerfully and hopped in the car.
"Then brace yourself. It's going to be more fabulous." He told her.
"How? Yesterday you told me that it isn't a huge one." She asked him.
"Last minute plan.
Just wait and watch". He said and accelerated the car.
"No way!" This was her first reaction when they exited the car.
"Yes way!" Nakul beamed.
"Nakul.... You don't understand. I can't.... I can't swim.. and underwater diving is totally impossible for me." She fumbled.
He held her shoulder to calm her down.
"Hey.... Hey... Relax. It's okay.. I'll be there with you. You'd be able to do it." He confided her.
"But..."
"Ambar! I know you can't swim but this is the time for you to overcome your fears and I know this is one of those and don't worry, they'll provide necessary training." He said and she bobbed her head.
"I..."
"Do you trust me?"
"Yes." She answered.
"Good then let's go." He clasped her hand and walked ahead.
------------------------------------------------
"Bye Dadda. Bye Amrita Maa..." Aakash waved his hand and passed through the gate.
"Bye." Amrita smiled while Mayank looked quite lost in himself.
"Hey... Are you okay?" She nudged him.
"Huh?"
"You zoned out... Are you fine?" She asked him.
"It's okay... we can postpone it to some other day."
"No... Let's do it now." He said.
"Mayank... Did I heard it right?" Manyata asked.
"Yes Mom." He replied.
"I'm not sure what to say.... What do you expect me to tell you?" She queried.
"Mom... I need nothing but your support... your blessings and that's the reason I told you." He said.
"Did you tell this to Nakul?" She asked him.
"No.. I wanted to inform you first." He spoke and heard her sigh from the other end.
"Who's the girl?" She finally enquired about her.
"Mom... I'll tell you everything... She's Amrita Sahay...." And he narrated her.
Manyata was surprised... She couldn't decipher what their lives had shaped into.
"Mayank... Are you sure about this?"
"Yes." He responded.
"Mayank... I would just like to tell you that never compromise with your life.... Keep everything aside... and think about yourself first. Will you be happy with this?" She questioned.
"Won't I be selfish then?" He asked.
"No... Dear... One deserves to lead a happy life and you're no exception here. Son! I don't have to worry about you because I know that you're capable of making wise decisions otherwise you wouldn't had taken Skyflames to heights on your own strengths." She told him, "Did you speak to her parents?"
"Not yet."
"It won't be easy, son. Especially her mother... I still can't forget how she forced her daughter against her will. I don't judge people but what she did last time, I simply can't forget that." Manyata muttered.
"I know... Mom. I'll go along with Amrita." He said.
"That's better.... Mayank.. Just be true to what you are... The rest I needn't explain. You're smart. My blessings are always with you." She lastly told him and disconnected the call.
The driver stopped the car.
"We reached." Amrita told him and he woke up from his reverie.
"Yes... Come." He gripped her hand and looked into her eyes full of fright.
"Let's do this." He blinked his eyes and walked beside her.
------------------------------------------------
"Come on... Ambar! You're next."
"Why can't you go first?" She prompted.
"I can but I won't." Nakul grinned.
"Why?" She asked him.
"Because if I go ahead then you would never jump." He reasoned.
"How can you say that?" She hit him.
"Because I know you. Come on, wear your scuba." He said and she quickly wore it.
"Go."
She nodded and finally jumped into the water followed by him.
------------------------------------------------
"Vinay... Your medicine." Sandhya handed a glass of water to her husband.
"Here comes everyday's torture." Vinay rolled his eyes.
He gobbled it down when he eyed Sandhya's stern glare.
"If you want to get well soon then you've to eat these." She murmured.
"Fine..."
The door bell rung diverting their attention.
Sandhya trudged to the door and opened it.
"Mom!"
Sandhya's face turned pale and she moved away leaving the door open.
Disappointment engulfed her soul.
This was the worst feeling to see her mother maintaining distance.
"Amu! Princess." Vinay's eyes shone, seeing his daughter at the door step.
"Come inside my dear." He said.
She hugged her father who later acknowledged Mayank behind her.
"Mr. Suri. What a pleasant surprise!" He stood up from his chair but stopped when Mayank shook his head, "Please be seated sir." He said it politely.
"Sir. Please have a seat. You too my child." Vinay spoke and they nodded.
"What brings this young man here?" He asked looking towards Mayank.
"Mom! Please sit here." Sandhya who stood near the door paid no heed to her daughter's request.
"Sandhya! Come here, please." Vinay ordered in a soft voice and she finally occupied the couch near her husband.
"Now... tell me." He asked.
"Dad...." Mayank immediately clasped her hand tightly and she pressed her lips in a thin line.
Sandhya's eyes almost bulged out seeing the contact of their hands.
"Sir... Ma'am... I'm here to ask for your consent." He spoke.
"I don't understand Mr. Suri, consent for what?" Vinay was utterly confused and so was his wife.
Mayank took a deep breath before setting forth.
"I want to marry your daughter."
