Chapter 47-Bonding.
LOVE.... She had fallen for him... She didn't know what to do about it.
Her mind was already screwed up.
Nakul!
His name itself brought a smile to her face. She remembered his every word about her which caused her heart to tingle. His gratitude, his protectiveness and most importantly, his undying concern was all which had her smitten completely.
He had done a lot of things for her. He had been her knight in shining armour when she needed him.
"Amy! Amy!" Amrita's voice rang in her ears and she was pulled out of her trance for a moment.
"Are you alright?" Solicitousness was arrayed from Amrita's face.
Because of him, her Dida was here too.
Despite of holding a grudge against her sister, not only he permitted her to stay at his house but also convinced her sister to come along.
After this, she had started loving him even more but what did he feel about her was another sort of question.
"Ambar! Are you even listening?" Amrita shook her slightly and she nodded breaking her chain of thoughts finally.
"Ambar? You still have a chance." Amrita beamed at her.
"What? What are... you talking about?" She fumbled and Amrita sighed out loud.
"You didn't hear a word, did you?" She questioned her and Ambar bit her lip.
First sign of being in love! Daydreaming.
Amrita snapped her fingers again.
"Oh my god, Amy! What am I going to do with you?" Amrita poked her, giggling then continued.
"Sorry Dida."
"Anyway, Vashisht told me that the admissions are not done yet... that means you still have a chance." Amrita had a biggest smile on her face.
Ambar's felicity disappeared.
"I don't think so... I can't afford the expenses. I still have a lot to save from my salary." She muttered, telling her the truth.
"Amy! I have some money. I received it from the mutual funds this month." Amrita said.
"No... Dida! You would be needing that money for the baby... I can't accept that from you." She refused, straight away.
"Ambar... This is your dream! It's NYU." Amrita said.
Is it her dream really?
Actually not anymore!
She was contented with the life she had now, with Aakash, her Dida and significantly with 'him' in it.
"I know...." Ambar was interrupted by the little boy who barged into the room without notifying.
"Small shot! You should always knock the door." Nakul rebuked and Aakash stick his tongue out before mumbling an apology.
"Amy! My Dadda is coming home." Aakash squealed with a biggest grin on his face.
"That's great." Ambar replied as she caught his hands but her eyes shifted to Nakul who just blinked at her before passing a small smile.
"I.. actually have a preposition here for you, Amrita." Nakul voiced out and Ambar's gaze darted to her sister who looked equally confused before finally settling on him.
"The nurse who was in charge of my brother won't be able to work here anymore and there is no other nurse available so I thought, may be you would be able to help... You're a doctor and you're quite familiar with the treatment, I guess." He prodded and they both stared at him in disbelief.
"I know you're not a nurse but temporarily, I want someone efficient to handle his case. Even the doctor who's in charge of him is out of town so it would be better if you would accept this... Also, I'll be paying you." Nakul said discreetly and Amrita didn't hesitate even for a minute to respond.
She needed this job... and secondly, she was heavily indebted to him.
"I'm ready." She answered softly.
This was the least, she could do for him and she loved taking care of the patients and seeing them get better. This helped her divert her mind from the inner turmoil.
"Thank you." Nakul smiled, gratefully.
Ambar could feel her heart pound. What the hell was wrong with her?
His actions only made her completely head over heels for him.
"Amy! Can we go for shopping today? My school starts next week." Aakash suddenly adjured, reminding her.
"I can't come, I have to leave for the hospital." Nakul inhaled sharply.
Visiting that place again didn't go well with him but at least his brother would be coming home in the next couple of hours and he would be spared from going to that place again. Hopefully!
"Oh..." Ambar sighed.
"You want to go for shopping?" Amrita asked with a grin and some twinkle in her eyes.
"I..want ...go to.. school." Aakash fluffed unable to speak correctly. He didn't knew anything about the woman who stood in front of him except that she was someone close to his best friend Amy.
Amrita eyes softened. She always loved kids and pregnancy took an emotional troll, increasing her affection more than before.
She bent forward. Her hand was protectively clutching her abdomen.
"Why don't you come with me? I want to buy stuff too beside Amy looks tired, doesn't she?" She murmured in his ears and Aakash eyed Ambar immediately who actually appeared like she needed some sleep. He nodded and she winked at him.
"Don't worry. We'll have a lot of fun." She sew up happily.
"Okay!" He finally let out a small smile.
------------------------------
This was a bliss... A soothing bath, a peaceful sleep and dreams of him.
Ambar yawned stretching her hands up high.
She was finally relaxed and re energised. She glanced at the wall clock.
Three hours... She had been sleeping from the past three hours and no one dared to wake her up. Why?
Surely now, it would be difficult for her to gather some sleep at night.
She came out of the room and heard some shuffling noises from the kitchen.
Her stomach grumbled and she gently rubbed her belly.
She was famished almost starving and made her way towards the kitchen.
Nakul huffed. He didn't know what to do.
He was back from the hospital and from the last one hour, he was in the kitchen, rummaging through the refrigerator to find something to eat.
Mrs. Melanie was on a leave and he couldn't had disturbed Ms. Hunky Dory knowing how knackered she was.
"What are you doing?" She asked him, making him almost jump.
"I...I'm hungry." He mumbled cutely
"Now when you're finally up. Can you make something?" He asked her and she smiled like a fool.
"Sure!" She picked up a pan.
"I'll leave." He muttered and she breathe out.
"Stay." She whispered.
"I can't.." She knew about his fear of fire.
Even a spark of it.
"Nothing will happen." She assured him.
"But.."
"I am here.. you need to overcome this." She said and he bobbed his head.
She lit the pan on the stove before adding some oil in it. From the corner of her eyes, she saw him tense up.
She hated seeing him like this.
"They aren't back yet." She distracted him.
"Yeah! I had a talk with them. They'll be back soon." He told her.
"Could you pass me the mustard seeds?" She asked him.
"What is it?" Her eyes widened.
"It's the.. Never mind.." She strolled to the rack and picked the bottle herself.
"This is mustard seeds." She showed him before putting it in the oil. He stiffened when he heard the crackling noise.
She chuckled.
"Dice the paneer."She ordered him.
"What?"
"Cottage cheese. Have you ever at least seen a cookery show?" She asked him.
"No... I rarely watch television." He replied and she sighed.
"Fine... Just pick that knife and cut the cottage cheese into halves before slicing it into cubes."
She instructed him and he did what he was told to do.
"Wow! I finally did something." Nakul was pleased with himself as he handed her the bowl of his hardwork. The Paneer cubes.
"Great! You are a quick learner." She commented sarcastically.
"Thank you." He bowed down and smirked. Meanwhile, she kneeded the dough quickly before flattening the small portions of it on the rolling pin.
"Wow! Which map is it?" Nakul mocked her whilst she huffed eyeing her not so round chapatti (Indian bread).
"At least I can cook. Not like some people who don't even know mustard seeds." She derided back.
"Yeah... I'm sorry." He apologised as she rolled the second one which surprisingly turned out round in shape.
"See! She passed on a victory smile.
"Yeah ..yeah... You're better than me." He rolled his eyes.
She was happy... At least he had left his trepidation behind.
Finally, the food was ready and looked absolutely mouthwatering.
Thankfully she had tried this recipe before.
She served him some of it on his plate. He tore the bread and dipped into the bowl of paneer gravy before shoving it in his mouth.
"How is it?" She asked him.
"Nothing great but it's better than the sandwich which you made that day." He ridiculed on purpose and she snickered as she pulled the plate from his grasp.
"Hey! You can't do that." He yelled, protesting.
"I actually can." She simpered as he gulped.
"Okay sorry. This is the best paneer gravy, I have ever tasted. now please give me my plate back." He implored and she handed him the dish back and they continued to dig in the food.
"Actually thank you for whatever you did for me... for Dida." Ambar trailed off as he placed his hand on her cheeks.
"You are my friend. I just wanted to see you happy." His touch reddened her cheeks.
"Chachu!" Aakash ran in the house enthusiastically with Amrita behind him.
Nakul pulled his hand back instantly.
"Hey small shot! How was your day?" He enquired turning to the boy.
"I enjoyed it. We shopped a lot. Amrita maa is so cool." Aakash smiled as he held Amrita's hand.
"Maa?" Nakul and Ambar choked together. They were perplexed with the term used by him.
"I asked her if I can call her that.." He gave her a goofy smile leaving them stupefied.
"That's nice kiddo!" Ambar was the first one to recover. She poked her elbow into him.
"Yeah." He said.
"We bought icecream." Aakash's eyes sparkled.
He did have a lot of fun with Amrita who was still holding his hand.
"But we'll have it only after the meal." Aakash glanced at Amrita who nodded his head, smiling.
Ambar served them as well and they started munching their food.
"Amy! It's yum yum." Aakash complimented her and Ambar looked coyly at him.
"This is how you praise someone's work." She remarked and he smiled before getting up.
"Thanks for the food." Nakul said and sprinted towards his room.
He had to do this before he could change his mind. It was getting difficult ... It will be more difficult.
He fished out his phone from the pocket and finally called her.
His hands were shaking but he had to do this.
For her....
"Hello Mom! I need your help."
