Chapter 46-Altruism.

Ambar was conflating from inside. Listening to something very appalling had evoked her senses.

Her Dida was pregnant with a baby.

"Dida! What are you saying?" Words left her mouth.
She couldn't decipher anything at that moment.

"I got to know on the wedding day itself." Amrita said while she didn't acknowledge Nakul who had his ears all attended to hear what she had to say..
He was stupefied too.

Amrita's eyes stooped down in the pool of guilt as tears continued to cascade down her cheeks.

"I fell in love with a wrong man..." She confessed and it pained Ambar's heart too as she continued.

"I was crazy and mad about him. We met at the hospital. One day, he promised to marry me but he just used me like a tissue paper to satisfy his needs." Amrita broke down.

"I so wanted to tell you, Amy but whenever I tried, something or the other came up." She added quickly.

"Shortly, he left for a vacation and suddenly, all that marriage thing came up. I wanted to deny but I couldn't..." Amrita sighed.

"Why didn't you say anything?" Ambar reprimanded and she closed her eyes for a brief moment.

"I... I wanted to fulfill your dreams of studying in New York but the loan for which I had applied didn't pass and I was left with no option but to ask Mom and Dad for the monetary help". She elucidated further.

"They agreed to help me but on one condition which was to marry Mr. Nakul Suri who had put forth a marriage proposal in front of them." Ambar gasped after what she heard from her.

Her sister had gone through a lot.

"I tried to contact him... My boyfriend but he neglected my calls. I wanted to meet him so I went to his house where I..." She choked while whimpering.

Ambar squeezed her hand.

"I met his wife and his son. He was fucking married to her and was cheating on her with me." Amrita's voice was hoarse as Ambar soothingly caressed her back.

She mentally cursed the man who had tormented her sister.

"Later, I got to know that his married life was a downhill and I was not the only one with whom he had an affair on. After that I broke up with him and decided to accept the marriage proposal to move on from him but then I found out about my pregnancy and I immediately left to meet Dr. Tripathi who was my senior doctor and a gynaecologist at the hospital. She confirmed it, leaving me totally shattered
... I didn't want to abort my child and neither I could've burden someone else's life..., Mr. Suri's life who was quite involved in his own share of problems.
So, I decided to leave on the wedding day itself and Dr. Tripathi helped me in doing so. I admit, ... I committed some terrible mistakes. Amy! but it all happened because I trusted some people blindly. I'm so sorry." She cried out loud and Ambar hugged her immediately.

"Dida! I'm here with you... Please don't cry." She said between her sobs.

Nakul was frozen to his spot. Aakash tried to shake him but he was paralysed after hearing her revelations.

All this while, he had blamed her for deceiving him and now he felt nothing but a lot more sympathy towards her.

Ambar's teary eyes found his blank ones.

His scrutinizing gaze was fixed on them.

"Why don't you come with us?" Ambar insisted and she shook her head in refusal.

"I can't come... Please Amy! I'm happy here." Amrita told her.

"But I can't leave you here, Dida! Not after knowing about this little one." Ambar requested and while she was about to speak again, she heard Aakash's voice interrupting them.

"Amy! Look Chachu is playing statue statue... all by himself. See!" The boy intruded and pointed out to Nakul who instantly recuperated his posture.

"Come, I'll show you something." He pulled her with him leaving Amrita alone on the bench.

Nakul quietly strolled towards Amrita who just brushed her tears.

"Why can't you come with us?" He asked her and she shifted uncomfortably at his question.

"I'm sorry." She pursed her lips before letting out her apology.

He took out his napkin and offered her. She hesitantly accepted it.

"You shouldn't cry. It's not good for the baby." Nakul sounded calm and she stiffened.

"You know?". She asked him.

"Yes... I heard you both." Nakul replied nonchalantly.

"But you didn't answer my earlier question. Why can't you come with us?" He queried and she wiped her face again then quirked her brows at him.

"Even after you heard everything, how can you ask me this? I won't be able to face anyone and particularly him." She said.

"You could stay with us. That's how, no one will ever come to know where you are." He suggested and her eyes went wide.

"Are you kidding? After whatever, I did with you and your family, I won't be able to accept your benevolence. You did a huge favour of letting Ambar stay at your house but I can't strain your life more." She hiccuped.

"I'm not doing this for you." He snapped at her in irritation.

"I'm doing this for the girl who misses her only family which is you. You might give us a countless number of reasons of not returning but I would give you only one reason which will be sufficed for you to take this flight which would nullify all those reasons which you have listed before." He shouted but paused to look at her and she gulped.

"That's Ambar!" His mumbled  softly.

-----------------------------

Ambar got transfixed to her place after hearing him mouth her name.

Though Aakash had pulled her to the other side of the bush to show here something which she was least interested about, She couldn't help but think about everything.

She desperately wanted to be with Amrita. She couldn't have let her stay here, all alone at any cost.
She wanted her to return and was even ready to beg in front of Nakul for allowing her sister to stay at his place but his sudden behaviour had surprised her completely.

She didn't anticipate him in her persuasion mission. In fact, he even succeeded as they were now on the plane, flying back home.

Aakash was already asleep and Nakul was still busy on his laptop.

She smiled at Amrita who had her head rested on Ambar's shoulder.

Then she peered at him as he exhaled sharply before turning his head to her direction.

His mouth settled into a breathtaking smile and she couldn't help but feel her heart race faster.

She didn't know what was happening to her but she felt elated.

She too closed her eyes to saunter in the land of her own balmy dreams about him.

------------------------------

Amrita's luggage was shifted to Ambar's room.

Amrita still couldn't believe that she had actually acquiesced with Nakul's locution and was now back to his place where she'd had lived if she had married him but she didn't.

"Dida! Are you alright?" Ambar walked out of the bathroom, after having a relaxing shower.
She was dighting her hair as she glanced at Amrita who smiled warmly at her.

"May I?" Amrita forwaded her hand and Ambar grinned before settling on the floor as she handed the towel to Amrita.

Amrita started wiping her head.

"Oh! I missed this." Ambar said as Amrita continued to rub the towel off her head.

"Dida! When is your due date?" She looked up to see her face.

"November." Amrita replied.

"That's five long months". She sighed and Amrita chuckled.

"I'm still doubtful. Are you really babysitting that boy or are you getting one by someone?" She commented and Ambar giggled.

"Actually I don't feel like I'm working here." Ambar scratched her chin.

"Oh! That's a good thing but soon I'll be finding a new job and a new place for both of us." Amrita spoke and Ambar eyes furrowed.

"What's wrong in staying here?" She enquired immediately, getting up on her feet.

"Amy! This is not our house. We have to leave some day or the other and we are just burdening our responsibilities on Mr. Suri. That's not right." Amrita said whilst clutching her arms.

Her point did make a valid sense but Ambar didn't wanted to leave. She was happy here.
These thoughts were unsettling in her heart.

Suddenly, her phone started buzzing and she was pulled out of her reverie and she answered the call.

"Hey Amy!" She heard Vashisht's voice.

"Vashisht!" Amrita's face lit up when Ambar blurted his name.

"Hey! Where have you been?" Ambar asked him, remembering about his last call.

"Oh! It's just about the admissions which got delayed so it's kind of bumming me a lot." He muttered.

"What do you mean by delayed?" She enquired.

"Oh!... The procedures are still under process. You know what? You still have a chance to come here." Vashisht sounded excited.

"But that's not going to happen." Ambar replied and he sighed.

"Why don't you let me pay for you?" Vashisht stressed out.

"We are not having this discussion again." Ambar strictly warned him and peered at Amrita who was attentively listening to her conversation.

"Okay fine." She heard him sigh.

"Hey! I need to tell you something." He immediately added.

"Even I have a surprise for you." Ambar winked at Amrita who just smiled meekly.

"But you first tell me about yours." She purred.

"Okay! Amy... I'm in love." He murmured.

"What! Are you really?" She asked him.

"Yes! She's the one, Amy! We're officially dating now. Olivia." He told her and for the first time, she didn't feel covetous.
Instead, she was happy for him.

"That's great. Hope this time you have got it all clear in your head." She chirped.

"Yes Amy. Now tell me about your surprise?" He asked her and she quickly turned the speaker on.

"Hello?"

"Vashisht." Amrita spoke after a pause.

"Dida!" Vashisht squeaked in delight.

"Yes, Vashisht! How are you?" Amrita queried and they started catching up, just like the old times.

While Amrita was still prattling with Vashisht, Ambar got  engrossed in her own chain of thoughts.

When Vashisht mentioned about his girlfriend, she didn't feel spiteful regarding him talking about some new girl.

What was wrong with her?
She didn't have those floated feeling for him anymore.

Was she over him or did she love someone else now?

That moment, an apprehension got dawned on her mind and now she was very certain about that earlier question which kept nagging her brain.

She was in love...., deeply and madly in love with him and she had no doubts about it.

Finally! Phew!

How was the chapter?

Nakul is so thoughtful.
I'm loving him already.
Would now Ambar be able to confess her feelings to him?

Or ... will she back out?
