Chapter 22-Responsible.

"Dad!" He squealed when his father picked him up in his arms.

"Nakul! My child." He pecked his son's forehead.
"Kuldeep, you know, he misses you a lot." He heard his mother saying while his father raised an eyebrow at him.
"Do you?" He asked him while the boy nodded enthusiastically.

"Oh my son! Even dad missed you but work is important. You know that right, don't you?" His father said.

"I know."

"Are you going again?" His mother asked while handing a cup of tea to his father.

"I have no choice, Manyata." His dad replied whilst wiping the sweat from his face.

"But Kuldeep, you just came from your business trip, at least take some rest." His mother was concerned regarding how hard her husband was working for them.

"I just can't, I have to visit the factory today before the production starts." His father reasoned.

"Dad! Can I come along? I don't want to stay here." The little boy insisted with eyes pleading to spend more time with him.

"Nakul, you can't go to the factory. That place is not meant for children." His mother scolded him.

"Please Mom. I promise, I'll be a good boy." He implored turning to her.

"Manyata, don't worry I'll take care of him." His father convinced his mother who just gave in without thinking much.

"Alright but Nakul, you won't trouble dad." She warned.

"Okay!" The boy jumped happily before bidding good bye to his mother.
-----------------------------------------------------

"DAD!" He screamed for help but started coughing due to the smoke all around which had started choking him.

"Nakul, don't fret. Just stay where you're." His father yawped before breaking the door to enter.

"Dad!" He cried out seeing the fire surrounding him, fearing for his life.
Suddenly he heard something coming down, falling on him.

"NAKUL." His dad jumped on him before the big hot metal plate landed on his father and somewhat on his face as well.

The pain was unbearable but he just couldn't open his eyes. He wanted to cry but he just couldn't.

His father, His....

"DAD!" Nakul woke up startled and horrified. He was panting hard, trying to breathe.

He immediately brushed his fingers on his face. Indeed, the scar had disappeared but the pain subsisted still within.

That memory had become his worst nightmare which he never wanted to experience again.

The day which turned his and his family's life upside down.
Losing his father because of his fault. His brother stepping up to take the entire responsibilities of the whole family and business at a very young age. His mother who faced a lot of hardships after losing her husband.

Everything would have been different if he hadn't persuaded his father to take him to the factory that day with him, if he hadn't spilt the alcoholic content by mistake igniting the fire, only then his father wouldn't had jump on him sacrificing his own life while saving him. Though none of his family blamed him but he just couldn't get over his past which was constantly haunting him especially when he had no one around him.

His life had been full of tragedies. He didn't wanted to lose anything else.
Now, he just wanted a normal life with his mother, brother and his nephew who was now his major liability.

He instantly got out of his bed and ran towards his small shot's room.
He heaved a sigh after seeing him peacefully asleep.

After taking small strides towards him, he kissed his temples.

He knew that he won't be able to devote him his entire time due to work but he had promised that he'll take his nephew's care in the best possible way.
Suddenly, this reminded him of 'Ms. Hunky Dory' who was going to babysit Aakash from the very next day.

'What was her name?' He tried to recollect.
He found the girl, crazy and mirthful.

He couldn't find an answer to himself that why did he appoint her in the first place?
Especially for this particular job.

Revenge, he disliked the word.
He was sure that he had nothing to do with it.
Maybe because when she came in, all that he thought about was regarding his small shot's welfare.

But was she capable enough for this job?

That was another sort of question which didn't have an answer either.

He was ready to give her a chance hence he decided to test her.

Leaving all the thoughts of his to rest, he slept on the couch next to Aakash's bed, pushing away all the nightmares.

------------------------------

She hated alarms.

'Who the hell invented them?'

She just wanted to throw away the annoying thing in the trash bin but why did she set it if she hated the sound?

Her eyes opened in a swift as she realised the biggest reason behind it.
She gasped after witnessing the time.
Nakul's grumpy face flashed in her mind.

She was getting late.

"Oh God! Mr. Grumpy. He'll definitely slaughter me after saying his usual, I hate latecomers." She mimicked his tone whilst picking out her clothes from the closet before rushing to the bathroom.

------------------------------

"Hello Mom." He answered her call.

"Good you picked up, I just reached the penthouse now." She informed him over the phone.

"Good. Take rest now as I'm sure, you are quite tired." He guessed it and sensed her smile from the other side.

"You know me so well, Yes. I'm tired but I just can't take rest. I have to check on your Aunt Yogita." She replied.

"Okay! But don't stress yourself much." He said.

"Alright, I won't. By the way, what did you think about Aakash? Who will look after him today? Please don't tell me you'll take him to office." She questioned him while he debated with himself whether to tell her about appointing Ambar or not. He decided to go with the latter decision by completely dismissing the topic.

"Don't worry. There's a babysitter who will be coming starting today." He said without mentioning her name.

"Okay! I hope this plan works. Anyway, good luck." She replied.

"Yes, mom I'll call you later. I have work to do." He said before hanging up as he saw the clock pointing the time.

It was exactly at nine o'clock when his eyes got fixed to the entrance.
He tapped his foot impatiently.

"You're late." She heard him speak as soon as she entered through the giant door.

Her eyes darted towards the wall clock.

"It's 9:02." Words slipped out of her mouth.

"Yes, you're late by two minutes and it's still late for me." He said while folding his hand.

"I..."

"Time won't be important to you but it is to me, it's strictly unprofessional." He stated, interrupting her.
Keeping his voice harsh.

"I'm sorry." She apologised.

He knew that he affected her. He also knew that he made her feel nervous and scared of him and he wanted to keep it that way believing that people tend to work better avoiding any mistake to occur.

"I don't want this to happen again." He warned her.

"Yes... I... I'll be... early from tom... tomorrow." She stuttered again.

"Good! Now follow me." He ordered her which she compiled walking behind him till they were on the first floor outside a room.

Nakul gently knocked before entering with her beside him.

"Small shot!" He turned to the boy who was busy watching cartoons.

"Hmm." He hummed in response.

"I have a friend for you". He introduced her while Aakash's eyes shifted to the girl beside his Chachu.

"Hello." She greeted him while he just nodded.

"Small shot, listen to me." Nakul asked him and this time, Aakash became attentive.

"She'll be here when I won't be around." Nakul said.

"Then why is she here now?". Aakash blurted out making Ambar cringe a bit.

Nakul chuckled before ruffling his hair. He knew that Aakash was not a friendly kid especially around those whom he had never met or hadn't heard much about.

"I mean she'll be here with you while I'll be at the office. If you need anything then you'll tell her, okay?" He asked him whilst looking in his eyes.

"Okay!" Aakash smiled before looking at her in confusion.

Ambar smiled but it faded when Aakash ignored it and shifted his focus back on to the television.

"Come with me for a second." Nakul ordered again and they both stepped out of the room.

"I have to instruct you few things about him.".

"I'm all ears." Ambar answered making him smile this time.

"I don't want you to be careless around him. He can fool anyone easily so don't give in when he can get you on his fingers. Make sure, he eats on time and the most important thing, he's allergic to eggs....." Nakul explained her each and every detail about Aakash.

"You seem like a great father." She complimented him but this made him laugh a bit.

"Thank you and yes, I love him a lot but I'm his uncle not his father." He said.

"So he's not your son? Then..." She couldn't stop herself from not asking him more.

"That's none of your concern. Your work is to take care of him and make sure he doesn't throw a fit that would cost you your job. Call me if anything is wrong and one more thing, don't loiter on the second floor." He elucidated her responsibilities and turned to leave.
She couldn't control the curiosity in her anymore and instantly opened her mouth to question him.

"Why did you appoint me?" She asked him which made him stop on his tracks.

"I don't think I am answerable to you." He sneered.

"Do you want revenge for my refusal?" He turned around to face her.

An involuntary smirk got plastered on his lips.

"I don't believe in revenge and Now if you're done with your questions, I've some important work to do." He said and walked off leaving her, totally confused.
She sighed after he was gone then she turned to the door before stepping in.

"Hello again...."
