Chapter 21-Mr. Grumpy.
She sighed after disconnecting the call.
Vashisht had lectured for more over two hour about each and everything regarding her job before boarding his flight to New York.
He had provided her the list of firms who were hiring new recruits.
She had processed through each and every company's details and the job package, they offered.
She chose to wear a blue blouse, pairing up with a black skirt that ended just below her knees.
Make up was something which she loved to keep minimal.
She tied her hair into a high ponytail
Lastly, she wore her lucky pendant before completing her formal look.
Stuffing her bag with few of her certificates and dozens of her resumes copies, she moved out of her house, locking the door.
She also ran into Rachana once again who was buying vegetables from the nearby vendor.
They exchanged pleasantries before parting ways.
Ambar was nervous but only because of one thing.
Rejection.
The term nobody ever likes.
Whether it's for scholarship, job, companionship or for some other purpose.
Ambar was in the same boat of rebuffs as all her interviews went from bad to worse. With no experience and a mediocre qualification, all the firms that she went to rejected her.
The little amount of self confidence in her was lost too.
Opening her notebook once again, she mentally noted down the address of her next and final hope of getting a job in her brain.
------------------------------
His mother had boarded the plane. Driver had dropped Aakash to his office following his orders so that the boy doesn't create any nuisance for the nurse who's been looking after his dad.
Aakash was waiting in the next room, playing video games on the computer while one of his employee was in charge of keeping an eye on him.
It was a tough day to manage all the interviews together but Nakul needed fresh recruits who could form a new team and work under him.
Mr. Mittal was at his best help.
Nakul was longing for a break as he wanted to go and play with his small shot but he just couldn't. He was well aware that Aakash won't let him go back to work once he spots his Chachu in the room.
The boy was too hard to handle by anyone.
He definitely needed an easygoing babysitter but Nakul couldn't find any time between these interviews to look for one.
For a moment he thought, If the marriage thing could have worked out then he wouldn't have been so worried about Aakash.
He couldn't decipher why did she leave him?
He thought he knew her better but he was wrong about her. This was beyond his imagination that she would literally run away instead of confronting him. She could have told him if she never liked him instead she chose to bring shame to his family and hers too.
He would have taken her rejection better than her eloping.
'The Little Sahay', he remembered who he played with was the one who would've never done this to him.
Maybe she was no longer the friend he had once, the one who stood up for him when no one did, who refused to listen to others who always tried to tell her to stay away from him, a boy with no friends. The one who accepted the way he was, with the scar on his face.
The one who motivated him to live his life to the fullest.
He closed his eyes, replaying the memory which his mind couldn't erase ever.
------------------------------
Sitting on the bench near the play ground. The little boy continuously glanced at his friends playing merrily at a far away distance without even caring to look at him.
Friends!
How could he call them that? He was no longer a friend to them thanks to the ugly burnt scar on his face. He had knitted the fact that now no one cares for him except his family. He doesn't have any friends. Now, he's just a loner.
He looked away realising the fact and continued eating his food till....
"May I come in, sir!" He heard someone knocking at the other side of his cabin door bringing him back to present reality.
"Yes." He bluntly replied permitting her to enter his office.
She quietly stepped inside his cabin facing the back of her future boss.
But he didn't appoint her yet then how can she think him as one?
Before she could utter something, he turned to look at her.
"You." They both spoke at the same time startling each other.
"Ms. Umm ... What's your name again?" He quirked his brows at her.
How could he forget her name?
It has only been two days to all that drama.
He cleared his throat breaking her chain of thoughts
"I asked you, your name." He repeated the same line.
"Ambar. Ambar Sahay." She quickly replied.
Sahay... Ofcourse, the surname which held so much of importance for him till a day before yesterday. How could he forget that?
"Why are you here Ms. Ambar? Are you rethinking about your decision?" He smirked.
She shook her head while fidgeting her fingers. Her nervousness didn't go unnoticed by him.
"I am here for the job". She mumbled looking everywhere except him.
"Mr. Mittal asked me to meet you." She added.
"So you know what kind of job you're been interviewed for?" He asked her, buttoning his collar.
"I'm ready for any kind of job." She simply answered his question.
'That's it... It hit it correctly. She doesn't have any idea then and anyways I'll just get what I want.' He laughed mentally.
"I think you should have at least enquired about your job description." He said shaking his head.
"I. I desperately..... need a.... job". She stammered.
"Okay. so what kind of experience do you've with kids?" She got confused with his question.
"Sorry. I beg your pardon."
"Ms. Ambar, There's no vacancy for any post here." He lied, confusing her again.
'Mr. Mittal told me about an empty post.' She recollected.
"But then what about this interview?" She queried.
"I want a babysitter for my boy." He emphasised on the last two words.
'His boy. He has a kid?
How could he expect me to marry him without letting me know such an important detail?
Did Dida knew about this? Is this the reason she ran away?'
"Down to earth, Ms. Ambar." His voice again interrupted her.
"So are you willing to do this job?" He asked her.
'Should I back out...
How will I babysit his boy when I've no experience to handle kids but there's no other option... I need this job.'
"Yes." She let out a sigh.
"Good, tomorrow 9 am sharp at my house, clearly you must be remembering the address, right?" He spoke sarcastically
"Yeah... Okay... Thank you." She nodded and turned to leave.
"Miss Ambar... I'll appreciate if you come on time as I don't like late comers especially my employees."
"Yes..I'll be on Time... Mr. Grumpy... I mean Mr. Nakul... I mean sir." She walked out embarrassed without looking back at him, mentally scolding herself for voicing out the name she had just given him. While he stood uprooted to his place, amused at what she had just blurted out..
She threw her bag on the bed once she reached her home.
She couldn't believe what just had happened at his office but the only thing which mattered for her was the job she landed with.
Why didn't she remember the name of enterprise, her uncle worked for? If she had known then she wouldn't had gone for the interview in the first place and would even had saved herself from all sort of embarrassment.
But how can she even blame herself?
It was not even her fault because she was never taken to any of the business parties nor her uncle ever discussed anything related to his work especially when she was around him.
It hurt her that her own uncle didn't love his niece.
His only brother's daughter.
But for now there were other things which had occupied her brain already like
Kid... Babysitting..... Mr. Grumpy....
Everything have had been easier if Amrita would've been around.
She was so mellow around kids and adroit in tackling them while Ambar had none of such qualities.
She was a kid herself who was pampered by her Dida.
But having a job as such than nothing else was much better.
She needed money.
But what about him? His mere presence caused her to sweat and shiver.
How would she be able to face him everyday?
How will she be around him?
Another question aroused in her head....
'Why did he offer me this job?'
Realisation dawned upon her.
Revenge. Nothing else struck in her mind other than this word.
Revenge for her refusal.
Maybe she shouldn't have accepted the job but now she can't even decline it as there's no other firm left in the list where she can try her luck.
Maybe working for Mr. Grumpy was written in her fate and nothing more?
And she was up for the challenge.....
