Chapter 18-Devastated.

She was completely clueless about what her aunt was implying her to do.

"I don't know where she is? I swear." Ambar hiccuped.

"Ambar, you've to marry him?" Sandhya's words hit her like a volcano.

Did her aunt lose her mind completely?

"Mr. Nakul, do you have any problem?" She asked him.

He was stunned too.

How could he picture someone else as his wife?
Obviously he didn't love her but then, the image of Aakash flashed in his mind.

Surely his mother would take his small shot away if this marriage doesn't take place and he wouldn't have let that happen.

"I'm ready to marry her." He replied with the uttermost sincerity which made Ambar gasp.

Did he lose his mind as well?
Why was he so adamant in getting married?

Ambar had always believed in a marriage filled with love where nothing mattered more, other than those feelings which would bound to keep each other happy and together.

She was indeed small when her parents passed away but she clearly remembered how much affectionate, they were for each other and marrying someone out of those bounds didn't give her any hopes and didn't got along with her.

"I'm sorry but I can't do this." She face palmed as she repudiated.

"Are you insane?" Sandhya couldn't keep her voice low while Vinay decided to be numb like always.

"Have you forgotten how much we have done for you? Is this the way you're going to REPAY US." She spattered whilst Ambar hung her head low.

"I can't marry, I can't marry him." She cried more and more while Manyata quickly rushed to her side and hugged her.

"Enough!" A loud howler from Manyata quickly silenced Sandhya.

"This isn't a game for God's sake. It's a marriage, you're talking about. You can't foist something like this on her, can you?" She clamoured while Sandhya and Vinay both hung their heads in shame.

"It's alright dear, calm down. You don't have to get married." Manyata's words soothed Ambar greatly but she wasn't still able to meet her aunt's and uncle's eyes.

"Talking about the guests. I'm quite capable of handling this kind of situations, myself." She said and sauntered inside while the rest followed her, still not daring to speak word.

The crowd turned to her which mostly included the office staff and their families.
Sandhya hid behind the nearest pillar so she couldn't come in contact with all those women with whom she was so acquainted to.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I want to thank everyone for coming on a very short notice but I'm really very sorry to say that there has been an emergency and because of which we won't be able to proceed through this wedding. I hope you all will understand and won't push in the matters further. Thank you and I insist you all to have food before you leave." Manyata announced in a strong voice while the crowd started gossiping amongst themselves.

Ignoring everyone around she left without speaking a word to anyone. Nakul followed his mother while the Sahay family just left for their home.

------------------------------

"Chachu!" Aakash ran into his arms.

"Hey, small shot." Nakul lingered kisses on his face as he hugged him dearly.

"Chachu! Please don't kiss my cheeks." Aakash rubbed his face in annoyance.

"I missed you a lot." He said whilst hugging him.

He really did.

"So did I, Chachu." Aakash's smile was quite bigger.

"Who brought you here?"

"Driver uncle. Great Granna has sent a lot of gifts." He spoke, spreading his arms wide while Nakul smiled then ruffled his hair.

"Where is Granny?" Aakash asked him.

"Err.... She's in her room." He replied.

"Okay, I'll meet her now." Aakash was about to run to her room but Nakul stopped him, fearing his mother's rage.

"Small shot, why don't you meet her later. She's... asleep." Nakul held him while Aakash blinked his eyes in confusion.

The door was ajar when Nakul knocked it before stepping in.

"Mom!" He called out. She didn't turn to look at him but continued packing her few stuffs.

"Mom! I'm sorry." His voice was low but she heard him.

She sighed before speaking to him, finally.

"I'm not mad at you. So why are you sorry? I'm not mad at anyone but her parents.... I mean how can they do this?" Manyata rubbed her forehead in agony.

"But I have no right to judge those people, I must stop thinking about everything else." She murmured.

She was already tired.

"Mom! Aakash is here." Nakul told her.

"Oh my boy! He's back. Finally something good happened today." Manyata's face lit up with a smile.

"Mom!" Nakul was anxious this time. He was scared to let it out but he had to.

"Would you take him away?" He asked her fearing the reply.

"We'll see Nakul. Right now, I'm not in a mood to answer any questions. Not even this one." She replied and went out to meet her grandson.
------------------------------

"Where's the money?" Sandhya demanded once they were back home. Ambar couldn't understand what her aunt was referring to.

"What money?"

"The one which was given to you by Amrita. That was our money." Sandhya screamed on the top of her voice, "I'm sure, you haven't paid your fees yet, did you?". She sneered.

"I ...have it...." Ambar stammered. She couldn't lie.

"Get it here. Right now." Sandhya screeched while Ambar ran to her room, fearing her aunt's anger and got back with the packet as soon as she could.

"You're an unfaithful girl, I should had never taken you in my house." She snatched the packet from her hand and quickly examined it.

Her every word had pierced her heart.

"Chachi!" Tears sprang out from her eyes.

"Don't call me that. I hate you. I hated your mother too." She spilled out.

"Sandhya!" Vinay warned her. Sandhya glared at him before shifting her focus back on Ambar.

"I don't want you in my house, I don't want to see your face anymore. Just pack your bags and leave." She ordered, pointing out the door.

"Sandhya, where will she go? Don't do this." Vinay asked her out of concern.

"I don't care. She can go to her hut and die. I just don't care. I lost my daughter too, Vinay and I can't see her here anymore. Either she stays or I." Sandhya yelled.

Ambar had never seen her aunt this way.

She didn't want to worsen the matter, "Uncle! I'll leave." Ambar said and walked towards her room.

Her room which she shared with Dida. It reminded so much of her. Every nook and corner were bounded by their memories.

Why did she leave her like this?
Where did she go? Why didn't she tell her anything?
Why did her Aunt hate her and her mother so much?

There were many questions in her head but no answers to it.

Her eyes got glued to the photo frame on the side table. Her parents and her Dida when she had visited them once. Ambar, herself was way too small.
How happy they were back then.
To her surprise, she found her pendant on the dressing table, the one which she had gifted Amrita on her birthday when she had nothing to gift her.

'Why did she leave it here?'

Picking it up, she wore it around her neck and caressed it.
Then she took a deep breath and started searching for all her stuff which belonged to her.

After packing all her clothes and lastly her favourite photo album, she walked out of the house.

Vinay offered to drop her but she denied.
She was devastated but had some self respect left.
She glanced at the house for one last time and left with the suitcase in her hand.

Her dreams were shattered and the people, she loved so much were no longer by her side.

She didn't regret her decision and was ready to face the upcoming challenges.

But now she was all alone with just some memories.
