Chapter 17-Imbroglio.
Her eyes were constantly shedding tears. She felt sick and tired.
Tired of all the daily drama.
Two days!
In just two days, her entire life was going to change.
Marrying a person whom she had met only twice was the creepiest thing, she was going to do.
Wiping the stains from her face, she came out of the washroom.
"This is so unbelievable." She heard Vashisht's voice.
"I mean you didn't even tell me." He accused Ambar.
"Actually....." She trailed off before Amrita could complete her.
"Even she didn't knew anything. It happened all of a sudden." Amrita explained before Ambar could.
"Oh God! Dida, you're getting married! I can't believe it. I mean congratulations." He hugged her.
"Take care of Ambar." She whispered in his ears.
"Huh?"
"Ambar, could you please get me something to eat? I'm starving." Amrita requested.
"Sure Dida."
"Dida! What are you talking about?" He was confused.
"I mean, I won't be around now always and you both are soon flying to New York so I'll.... I'll... just miss you both and I want someone to look after her once I'm not much around." She cried silently while he comforted her by rubbing her arm soothingly.
"Promise me that you'd take care of her."
"Obviously Dida, I promise." He meant it when he said.
"Thank you."
"What's going on? Why are you both crying?" Ambar questioned after she entered with a packet of sandwich.
"Nothing... We just got all emotional." Amrita wiped the corner of the eyes.
"Yeah."
"Oh you both! Sometimes, you just freak me out and please don't turn all poignant, it makes me feel downhearted." She implored.
"Okay. Sorry, so what did you get me?" Amrita changed the topic.
"Dida. I couldn't find anything else." Ambar handed her the packet.
"This will be do." She stuffed it in her purse.
"Why aren't you eating?" Ambar asked.
"I'll eat it on the way." She replied with a small smile.
"Where are you going?" Ambar immediately asked her.
"Hospital." She replied calmly.
"Dida, why are you going? I thought we could just hang around for one last time...".
"Would you stop saying that!" Ambar yelled, interrupting Vashisht who flinched at her tone.
"This isn't the last time." She sobbed.
"Will you ever let me ever complete? I was saying that this is will be our last time before she gets married and before we move to New York". He argued.
"Oh God! This is a reality check. I had just totally forgotten about New York." She sounded dismayed.
"Oh God! Oh God! Oh God." She howled realising for the first time that everything will no longer be same while both of them started consoling her.

"Mom!"
"Oh Nakul! I was thinking about your attire for the wedding, have you thought about it?" She asked him.
"No. Actually mom, I want to talk to you about something."
"Okay. Go ahead."
"Mom, it's about Aakash." He spoke.
"What about him?" Manyata folded her arms.
"Mom. Shouldn't we tell him about Amrita? After all she's going to be his aunt."
"Nakul! I know where you're going. You just want him to come here, don't you?" Manyata questioned and Nakul slightly bobbed his head.
"But don't worry, he'll not miss the wedding." She assured.
"Really!" Happiness was evidently reflecting from his face.
"Yes, I had already called them to inform." She replied.
"Thank you, Mom. I'm just so happy." He hugged her.
"Okay... Okay... now would you help me with the preparations?" She asked.
"Absolutely."
------------------------------
"Where are you going?" Vinay asked Amrita while she was about to step out of house.
"Hospital." She said.
"You can't go, we have lots of thing to do." Sandhya spoke while Amrita rolled her eyes.
"So do I have a lot of things. One of them is giving up my job today." She said.
"Amu, believe me. This is the best thing you are going to do. Mr. Nakul will fulfill all your dreams." Sandhya raked her hand.
"Don't act like you care for my happiness." She lashed out on her mother.
"But we do my dear." Sandhya's voice started cracking up.
"Ambar. Only Ambar is the one for whom I've agreed."
"But..."
"I'm getting late. Do whatever you want." She stormed out without hearing her mother.
---------------------------------------------
The most dreadful day of her life finally arrived.
She eyed Ambar who couldn't stop crying.
"Dida, I can't believe, you're getting married. I mean, you'll turn into a bride now.
How will I be able to live without you?" Ambar sobbed immensely. Amrita grabbed her hand.
"Amy! Listen to me, dear. You've to learn to live. Be independent and strong. After all I can't be around you all the time. Anyway, take this money. The rest of it will be transferred to your account so that you won't face any trouble in the United States." She told her after handing the money.
"Okay! Thank you so much, Dida." She hugged her, "Actually, I'm really happy for you. He's a perfect guy though he's somewhat weird but it's your choice and I won't talk anything nonsense now." She jabbered while Amrita started giggling.
Suddenly Amrita felt weak. Extremely weak.
"Dida! Are you alright?" Ambar sensed it.
"I'm fine. Just a headache." She shrugged her shoulder.
"Here, you are." Sandhya stepped in, hurriedly.
"Amrita! You've to reach the parlour now. I've your appointment booked." She told her. Amrita had the urge to roll her eyes but she didn't.
"Okay mom".
"Driver will pick and drop you." Sandhya said.
"Alright." Amrita nodded her head.
"Ambar! You come with me, dear." She pointed to Ambar.
"Why? Wouldn't I be there with Dida?" Ambar asked.
Sandhya plastered a fake smile.
"Of course, You would but I've some work here and I need your help. After everything is summed up then even you can leave for the parlour and join your Dida." Sandhya faked smile and left hastily.
"Okay Dida, I'll join you later." Ambar hugged her before leaving.
"Ambar!" Amrita called her and she halted.
"Yes!"
"Never misunderstand me. I really love you." She hugged her again, letting the tears flow.
"I love you too, Dida. Why are you saying that?" She asked.
She was baffled with her sudden behaviour.
"No. It's just that I'm all sentimental." She replied while Ambar wiped her tears.
"Okay. You need to leave and have to turn into a very beautiful bride. While I have to join Auntie to help her or else, I'll be facing all her wrath." She giggled.
"Yeah."
"See you." Ambar quickly kissed her cheeks and left.
Once she was gone, Amrita voiced out her thoughts.
"Forgive me, Amy. Forgive me."
------------------------------
"Where is she?" Sandhya asked Ambar while Ambar couldn't stop wailing.
"Wasn't she supposed to be with you?" She questioned.
"I don't know." Ambar managed to say between her sobs.
"What do you mean you don't know." Sandhya fumed in rage.
"When I reached there, I got to know that she didn't show up at the parlour at all." Ambar whimpered.
"Did you call her?" Sandhya asked quickly.
"I did but it's switched off." Ambar bellowed.
"Oh my God! This girl. now what are we going to do? What we'll tell everybody? The Suri's! What are we going to say?" Sandhya panicked.
"Vinay!" Sandhya cried in her husband's arms once he came.
"I couldn't find her. She's not even at the hospital." He said panting.
His forehead were creased with worry.
"But I found this parchment paper in her room with her phone on it." He handed it to Sandhya.
I'm sorry but I can't do this. Please forgive me.
-Amrita.
Sandhya snivelled after reading it.
"I.. I don't know what to do, Sandhya? Where is my daughter." Vinay stressed out.
"Vinay, she has disgraced us. I won't be able to face anyone inside."
"But we have to call and let them know." He took out his phone and dialed her number.
"You only talk to them."
The call was answered within few seconds, Vinay quivered.
"Hello."
"Mr. Sahay! We're waiting for you all. Where are you?" Manyata queried.
"We're outside." He said.
"What's wrong?" Manyata quickly sensed it.
"Amrita! Actually Mrs. Suri, I can't say this over the phone. Could you and Mr. Suri come out." Vinay's voice was laced with ignominy.
"Okay. We're coming." She disconnected the call and ran out while Nakul followed her leaving the guests unattended.
"Mr. Vinay? Mrs. Sahay! Why are you crying?" Manyata questioned them while Nakul stood confused behind his mother trying to construe the situation.
Sandhya couldn't speak a word but handed the same note to Manyata.
All the colours got drained out from her face after she read it. She looked up to see her son being perplexed.
"Mom?"
"She doesn't want to marry you." Manyata answered while Nakul's eyes widened and his body stiffened.
Dejected. Once more.
The only woman he trusted beside his family had deceived him.
But why did she do that?
Why didn't she tell him anything when he had asked her?
When he had asked her if she was sure or not?
What was with the last minute rejection? Was she in any sort of pressures?
All this questions started filling up his mind.
"What we will tell everyone?" Vinay rubbed his forehead. Sandhya's tears were uncontrollable but stopped when she glanced at the girl standing next to her.
"Ambar!" She held her by her shoulder while all heads turn towards her.
"Now only you can save us from the humiliation."
