Chapter 16-Tickety-Boo.
Sometimes, there comes certain moments when you don't know how to react.
That kind of situation is very unpleasant for one to witness it.
Ambar was going through the same dilemma. She was at a stranger's house where she was unable to express herself.
She was angry, hurt and confused too.
Precisely, she was completely bewildered and dazed.
Why shouldn't she be?
Her eyes were constantly on her Dida who on the other hand was trying to hide the guilt from her face.
Was she so unimportant that the person she loved the most didn't even tried to discuss anything about herself with her? But there were things, she still didn't have an idea about.
"I'm sorry." Ambar quickly bend over to pick up the fork which she had dropped accidentally.
"It's alright, dear. Leave it. Use the other one." Manyata dispelled Ambar's embarrassment.
"So when should we start?" Sandhya enthusiastically brought up the topic again.
"Mrs. Sahay, I've something to say if you don't mind." Nakul interrupted her.
"Not at all."
"Thank you!" He smiled gratefully.
"I know this will be very difficult for you all but Mom is leaving for New York on friday and this wedding, I can't do it in her absence so will it be okay if the date is prepond to this wednesday?" He said while the others except his mother, eyed him in astonishment.
Especially Ambar.
'Wednesday! That will be in the next three days. Wasn't it too soon?'
Ambar's mouth fell open. Too many shocks to endure one after the other.
"Is it alright?" Manyata asked.
"Actually, Mrs. Suri. We haven't started with the preparations and three days will be a lot more difficult. It's too soon." Vinay voiced out his worries.
"I do understand, Mr. Sahay but I've no choice and don't stress about the arrangements. That will be taken care of." Nakul explained.
"Alright then wednesday it is!" Sandhya smiled.
"Amrita! Is it okay for you, dear?" Manyata asked her finally. At least someone cared to ask her decision as well.
"Yes." She breathe out.
"Are you sure?" She held her hand out.
"Yes, I've no problem." Amrita acquiesced while Ambar's eyes were still glued to her.
"Good now we have a lot to discuss and decide." Manyata exhaled.
"Definitely!" Sandhya agreed.
------------------------------
While the rest were busy discussing about the wedding, Ambar and Amrita were seated across the hall having no one around.
"Why? Why didn't you tell me?" Words automatically slipped out of Ambar's mouth.
"I'm sorry." Amrita managed to hold her tears.
"Dida, why are you getting married? Why so soon?
There are many questions in my mind. Please tell me this is a joke." She pleaded.
"It's not a joke and I'm getting married because I want to." Amrita lied.
"Aren't you in any sort of pressure? You know what I mean." Ambar referred to her aunt and uncle.
"No."
"Dida, Are you happy?" She asked making an eye contact.
"Yes, I am." Amrita lied again with a lot more difficulty.
"Okay."
"Hey!". Nakul approached them.
"Your parents are calling you." He looked towards Amrita.
"Okay. Let's go." Amrita started leaving.
Ambar turned towards Nakul before joining her sister.
"Well this is awkward but I'm sorry." She apologised.
"Sorry?"
"Yes, the other day when I ran into you and those books and even today when I entered your room without..." Her voice trailed off due to embarrassment.
"Oh." He frowned at her.
"I should leave, nice meeting you." She left hastily, scared because of his body language while he shrugged being amused with her.
"Are you okay?" Amrita asked once she joined them while she just nodded.
"What happened?"
"Nothing." She wiped the sweat from her forehead.
"Here, you both are!" Called out Sandhya.
"Amrita! There's something important we need to tell you, rather ask you."
Amrita nodded.
"As the wedding is in the next three day, we couldn't have other important rituals done so your parents and I have decided to have a small engagement ceremony performed today. We have asked Nakul too and now we are asking you.
What do you think?" Manyata asked.
"I have no problem. As you like it." She replied.
"Good, I'll get the rings. It's of Nakul's grandparents. Never thought that this would happen all of a sudden." Manyata laughed before sauntering towards her room.
"Oh God! Now what's left?" Ambar sighed hoping no one heard.
The engagement ceremony was simply performed while both of them flipped rings on each other's hands.
Not a single emotion was reflecting from Amrita's face which didn't go unnoticed by Ambar and Nakul.
After everything was summed up. They all were talking and deciding their plans leaving Amrita to sulk in a corner.
Ambar tried to talk about it but Amrita just shrugged, saying that everything was just tickety-boo and she was tired.
Nakul walked towards them which frightened Ambar. She was a lot more intimidated by him. He scared her with his arrogance and the thought of him marrying her sister had already send chills to her spine.
Though there was nothing wrong with him.
A very pretty face and enigmatic personality defined him. While the richness and the attitude which came along were just the add-ons. A perfect man in her eyes who will marry her perfect sister. So who was she to judge him when her sister had no problem with him.
Giving them some privacy, she sprinted towards her Aunt and Uncle.
"Amrita! Are you alright?" Nakul asked her sounding worried.
"Yes. I'm just tired."
"Okay..... I want to ask you something."He sounded nervous.
"Hmm." She hummed.
"Are you happy?" He asked her while she felt to break down that moment.
Happy was one term, she had forgotten totally. From the last few days, turmoil was all she was in.
"I can't see it in your eyes, please tell me the truth. Are you willingly ready for this marriage?" He queried, voicing out his worries.
He didn't wanted to pressurise her.
"No! Everything is alright and yes.... I'm.... happy." She stressed the last word smiling.
"Okay!" Despite of his heart not wanting to, he still believed her.
"Amrita! It's the time to leave." Sandhya called out.
"It was wonderful to have you all here. Especially you, Amrita." Manyata hugged her warmly once they all were near the doors.
"And even you Ambar." Manyata held her hand while they both hopped in the car.
"We must thank you Mrs. Suri for this magnificent dinner and of course for the lovely time." Sandhya said.
"I'm glad that we'll be a family from now on." Manyata replied happily.
"Absolutely." Sandhya beamed before getting in the car.
"Bye." They waved out their hand once the engine ignited as Vinay drove the car.
Amrita eyed the mansion for the one last time
This is it!
This will be her home in less than three days.
Ambar dozed off on her shoulder while she rolled up the windows, blocking the outside view and enveloping the darkness.
