Chapter 14-Welcome.

"Dida! Am I looking like a tent?" Ambar looked herself in the mirror.
"Maybe I shouldn't come tonight but I don't want Uncle and Auntie to get mad at me again so I think, it's alright for me to wear this." She kept on blabbering due to anxiety and excitement.

"Oh God! I don't have any matching accessories with this dress. Dida! could you lend me one of yours?" She quickly turned to Amrita who was quite gloomy and zoned out.

"Dida. Dida, are you even listening?" She swapped her fingers bringing her cousin out of her reverie.

"What? What were you saying?" Amrita faked smile.

"Dida! You don't look happy.  That reminds me that I had to ask you something about last night?" She recalled.

"What? What ab.. about.... the las... last night." Amrita stuttered whilst avoiding an eye contact.

"Dida, when I was back home, late last night. I saw your phone broken on the floor.. not just that you were also crying before falling asleep. I saw your face covered in tears. Please tell me, what exactly happened?" Ambar holded Amrita's hand as she asked her for an explanation.

"Nothing happened, Ambar." Amrita lied.

"Dida, I know there's something wrong. Please tell me. Anything, which you want to share with me." She implored.

"Can I come in?" Interrupted Sandhya who was standing at the door.

"Oh look at you. You look so lovely, Ambar. It doesn't even look tight." She came forward and examined her niece.

"Thank you Chachi. I mean Auntie." Ambar offered a genuine smile while she faked it on the other hand.

"Amrita.. Take this." Sandhya offered another paper bag to Amrita.

"I don't need this. I've my own accessories to wear." She sounded cold.

"That's not something which I don't know but I want you to wear this as you'll look more beautiful and radiant in this Tiffany & Co's fine piece of jewellery rather than this old and ugly pendant that you always keep on wearing." She smiled while Ambar's face faltered.

"I'm not going to remove this which means I'm not wearing that piece." Amrita muttered being more adamant.

"Dida! I think you should wear it. After all, it's Tiffany & Co." Ambar piped in.

"Yeah. Atleast, listen to your little sister." Amrita rolled her eyes but then started smiling wickedly.

"Amy, I want you to wear this." She snatched the bag and handed it to Ambar whose eyes grew bigger while Sandhya gasped.

"Mom, you don't have a problem with it, do you?" She smirked.

Sandhya fisted her palm in agony knowing well that her daughter is playing hard to get on her nerves.

"Not at all. Dear. I brought it for my daughter.
Ambar, you can wear it." She gave her a tight lipped smile.

"Thank you, Auntie." Ambar delightfully thanked her.

"Chachi is also fine. Ambar, Could you get me a glass of water?"  Sandhya asked.

"Sure, Auntie. I mean Chachi." Ambar lifted up the jug on the side table to pour some water in the glass.

"Ambar! Chilled please." Interrupted Sandhya while she nodded and left them alone in the room.

"Amrita! I know what you're doing."

"What am I doing?" Amrita fluttered her eye lashes.

"Don't try to act smart. We're not doing this for us only. We're doing this for you. Don't make this, more harder." She hissed at her daughter.

"Anyway, wear something decent and graceful. Don't embarrass us and also remember that if you can break your promise then we can also do the same thing." She finished just then Ambar returned with a glass of water in her hand.

"Thank you dear." She faked another smile while taking the glass from her and sipped it.

"Don't be late. Sharp 6:30." She reminded them and walked out.

------------------------------

"Smells delicious!"

"I hope it tastes delicious too." She sounded nervous.

"It would be after all my mom is perfect in everything." He mused.

"Perfect? I still remember the time when you used to feed my food to the dogs." His mother remarked.

"Mom. That's old." Nakul replied.
"Old! I miss those times." Manyata smiled sadly.

"Anyway, I have a lot to do. They might be here at any moment." She covered up.

"Go. Get ready." Nakul nodded and hurried to his room.

------------------------------

"Dida, This is too expensive. What if, I lose it somewhere?"

"Ambar. Relax and stop freaking out. It looks good on you." She complimented.

"But you look extravagant and beautiful. Isn't this the diamond set you got from Auntie on your last birthday?" Ambar's eyes shone.

"Yes it is. Thank you. Now we must leave or else you know what will happen." Amrita voiced out and they both exited their room.

------------------------------

The car jerked as it stopped outside a massive gate. Ambar peaked out of the window while her mouth hung open in surprise.

She snapped her head towards Amrita in excitement. Amrita on the other hand was lost in her own thoughts.

The gates opened up, allowing the car to pass in.

As the car lurched forward, Ambar shrieked in excitement. This was all, she had seen in movies or read in books but not in the reality until today.

It seemed like a fairy tale for her. The beauty of the garden mesmerised her more and more.

"It's so beautiful." Words came out of her automatically.

Sandhya smirked proudly after admiring the view.

This wasn't the first time, she had visited this place. Although, this would be the first time when she won't be surrounded by those nagging ladies and boring crowd who kept on babbling business.

From now on, she won't be just a wife to the employee working in the most popular and successful firm but now she would be actually associated to the Suri's, the owners of this fame and success.

Her thoughts came to halt as the car finally stopped in front of the huge house.

"Dida. Dida, let's get down." Ambar said.

Amrita followed her cousin as she too got out of the car. Throughout the journey, all she had been thinking was whether she's really right with the decision or not.

Ambar's eyes got glued to the house. It was bigger than the house, she had seen before.

Meanwhile, Manyata descended through the stairs, elegantly.

"Welcome." She smiled warmly.

"Namaste!" They greeted her.

Sandhya pushed her daughter in front asking her to seek blessings.

Amrita was about to bend down to touch the lady's feet but Manyata stopped her from doing so. Ambar stood behind her.

"Oh my! This isn't necessary dear. By the way, you look so beautiful." Manyata smiled warmly before hugging her with affection.

"And who is this pretty young lady?" She asked looking at Ambar.

"She's Ambar, my sister." Amrita introduced her before letting her mother talk.

"Our niece." Sandhya added quickly.

"Hello." Ambar greeted her softly.

"Hello dear. Such a pretty girl."

"Here. Some sweets!" Sandhya handed her the packet.

"Oh... Please don't be so formal and have a seat and make yourself comfortable here." She gestured them.

"Where's Mr. Suri?" Vinay asked her after they all occupied the lounge.

"He's in his room. He'll come in sometime." Manyata answered. Meanwhile the maids came out of the kitchen with trays in their hand.

They place it on the table in front of them.

Ambar's mouth watered looking at the delicacies in front of her.

"This is just some snacks as we have a lot of time for dinner." Manyata smiled.

Sandhya lifted a glass of mocktail and handed it to Amrita.

Amrita who was still in her own thoughts accidentally dropped the glass on Ambar's lap, dirtying her dress.

"Oh I'm so sorry." She quickly apologisd.

"It's okay, dida." Ambar instantly stood up.

"Auntie, can I use the washroom?" Ambar requested.

"Of course dear. It's in the room upstairs. Come, I'll show you." Manyata stood up.

"No Auntie, I'll find it." Ambar smiled.

"Should I come along?" Amrita conferred in a low voice.

"No Dida, You sit here. I'll just get this cleaned up." She said and leaved them.

Once she was upstairs, she walked into the room which she found first.

The wall of the room were full of dull colours but the furnishing screamed money.

She looked for the door to the washroom and finally found it opposite to the recliner. She strolled towards it and unlocked.

"What the... Hey!".
