Chapter XII: Coffee
Before I allow you to continue to read Chapter XII, I'd at least like you to try to even read this... Foreign accent. I laughed trying, honest.

"Hmmm? Ah... Joo are... von of zee... Inspectors? Zeetectives? I suppose?" Carla asked sarcastically as Selene entered her small office. Her eyes never left the computer as she continued typing long and mundane documents yet, she knew of Selene's expected entrance even before she set foot in the office.
Selene confirmed that Carla was French even if she didn't look it... But her last name did seem self explanatory...
"Carla Croix? I suppose?" Selene said.
"Zat vood be moi." Carla said without much expression.
"I see... You fought with Rick about your... Dreams to be a... cafetière?" Selene asked.
Carla sighed as if daydreaming and shook her head as she continued typing and then stopped and turned to Selene with a disturbed yet annoyed look on her face. "Now... vwat zoo my ambitions have zoo do vwit me?"
"As much as I love your accent, Carla, I'm afraid we need to at least get some information out of you that... Shall deem you innocent. Shall we say?" Selene replied.
"Vut of course... Vwat iz zeet joo'd like zoo know?" She replied sarcastically.
"Why would you fight with your employer?" Selene asked gently with her pen and police notebook in hand.
Carla sighed. "Really now? Zat is all joo vwood like to ziscuss vwit me? Pity." She said as if mocking Selene.
Selene kept her calm composure. Yet deep inside, she was angered. "Yes, Carla. That would be the only reason. If you are annoyed by my prescence, then I will gladly leave after you've answered all I have to ask you."
"I may as well... Joo ask about my employer, yes?" Carla started.
"Richard says that he simply asked you about your... Dream of an ambition and... Well... You seemed to have gotten out of hand..."
Carla tutted suddenly allowing a sarcastic feeling to float about in the air. "Zat employer of mine... Alvways able to... Twist any storvie told off on avout..."
"So... You say you've done nothing if the sort?" Asked Selene as Carla looked away from the computer.
"Well... I do have to admit zat I may have had zome... Vords with him, oui... Vut me? To shout zat him like zat? I vould never." She replied to Selene.
Selene sighed as she continued to write. She felt like she wouldn't go anywhere with this... But she had to gain at some information.
"Vut really, dearie, I do vwish to vee able to... Open up zome cafe in zis big city..." She said as if bidding Selene adieu.
"I see... So perhaps ypu argued for that reason?"
"Here vee are again. Joo continue to run in circles. But yes, I vant zat as my newer job. Not zis... Programming buisness which I no longer carry zee interest for."
"I see. I thank you for your time then." Selene said as she wrote down on her police notebook and ended with a small flourish.
She then went out of the door as she heard Carla sigh in relief as she left.
"Thank God that woman is out of my office..."
***
"She really does want to own a cafe then, huh?" Carl asked with a flint in his eyes. "I'd love a Cappucino right now."
"Give it a rest." James mumbled in annoyance.
"Yes. I didn't expect her to be so difficult to talk to. Tyler said that Rick claimed that she'd be very... Robotic." Selene pointed out calmly.
"Poor sis..." Celeste said as she rubbed her sister's shoulders to release some of the tension.
Tyler took a look in Selene's police notebook. She's written neatly about her findings and she described Carla as someone that Richard may have a hard time dealing with.
'She mentioned that he twists the story... So maybe Rick shouted at her instead of her shouting at him?!'
Tyler blinked rapidly at the thought then shook his head a little. He couldn't have. He wouldn't.
'The real Richard killed Haley and forced Mars into killing her to get off the island... Right?'
Tyler then began to doubt his choices. He wondered why in the world did he ever accept that letter to the mansion?
In fact, he felt more tempted than he ever did when he opened that letter.
"Temptation... Interesting isn't it?" Richard Tyler.
Tyler only mumbled in response and then turned to Selene. "Thanks for the tip on that French lady. Anyone else find anything?"
"Should we investigate again? I can their files or anything." Selene asked.
"Maybe Chelsea can tempt someone like Kale out of a secret." Jin said and he rolled his eyes as this idea was suggested before.
A bell then rang and outside of the room they were in, they could hear relieved sighs.
"It's their coffee break you gormless lot..." Richard snickered.
"Thanks for the tip." James said bluntly and Ryan tutted.
"Maybe we can get information on Carla if we can enter her office during their break?" Marco suggested.
"Possibly." Gruffed Ryan. "I wish I could have a coffe around now..." He then muttered.
"Why not?" Geoffrey then said. "Ryan can try to keep Carla distracted for now."
"Clever." Smiled Selene. "Perhaps ypu can keep your father under control as well Celia?"
"Who's Celia?" Celeste asked and then realized that... "Oh... Me. Alright then."
"Selene and I will try to infiltrate it. And the rest of you can keep watch nearby but you musn't make it so suspicious." Tyler then said.
"We're finally getting somewhere." James said with a small smile. "I'll accompany my employer. He'll need it."
"Alright... And don't let Carla out of your sight and don't really enter hers." Selene said and then nodded at Celeste. "You too, sister. Rick musn't learn of this."
"We will get out of this. Now let's go." Tyler said as he gave Selene her police notebook and fixed his sleeve cuff.

"Alright. Selene. Gloves." Tyler whispered to her as they walked towards the hallway to Carla's office.
Carla's office was near Rick's so they decuded to take a detour there to throw anyone who was watching them off for the mean time.
Celeste was already there and messing about and he was tickling her chin and calling her his daughter. Which... Was true in this scene...
They seemed a little startled but Celeste just seemed to be holding back a laugh. Her smile was wry and her eyes were waterimg slowly.
"A-ah, yes. You two, I-i expected you went to have a coffee break." Rick said embarassedly.
"We wanted to check on your current state. In case." Tyler said.
"A-ah. Yes. Of course." He said.
'Geez... Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to come here then...'
"We apologize if we had disturbed you." Selene started. "And secondly, do you happen to know what year this is?"
"Year?" Rick asked and then Celeste looked at her sister in suspicion as well.
"Yes. Please." Selene said calmly.
"It would be... The year... 202X... Why?" Rick asked Selene.
"I tend to lose track of time... I apologize for that... Thank you." Selene then said and walked out of the room with Tyler.
"What was that about?" Tyler whispered to her as they walked away from the room.
"We live in a different year Tyler. This seems more... Modern I suppose. Come, let's check on Carla's office now that we're out of there." Selene said and slowly walked ahead of Tyler.
'Suspicious you are now aren't you Selene? Very suspicious...'

"Good aftzernoon, Robert..." Carla said coldly as Ryan greeted her with almost as much... enthusiasm as she had.
"Yes, yes. Good afternoon, Carla. I wanted to ask you about..." Ryan started. Then lost his voice. He was more used to talking about money or investments...
"Avout what?" She asked and rolled her eyes.
"Your... Coffee shop ambition. Do you know how to make any... Proper coffee?" He asked awkwardly.
The question seemed about right and Carla snapped and she began to feel more arrogant.
"Preposterous zat question. Vut of course I can." She boasted and huffed. Much like Chelsea it seemed.
"Show me." Ryan said and smirked. He felt like boasting as well.
"Arrogant joo are, oui?" Carla said as she smirked for the first time.
James felt like throwing up for the first time in his entire job. It was weird to see Ryan actually talking to someone that wasn't in a cold yet more arrogant way than how he seemed to be conversing with her.
"Sir..." James cringed wishing that he didn't follow his employer.
"Yes! James!!! Get me coffee!" Ryan said with a bright smile, his pearly white teeth glittering proudly.
He sighed and reluctantly agreed until Carla shook her head. "I'll do zee coffee. Vwait up, cherie." She replied and walked in a certain direction.
"Thank you James." Ryan said with a smile. It seemed all the more sincere than it usually is.
And that alone seemed very strange to James.

"I've got the door. Ready?" Tyler asked Selene.
Selene nodded and clenched her fist as Tyler unlocked the door. They then entered the room silently and Tyler closed the door with caution.
Selene carefully stepped over to her computer and checked around Carla's info by rapidly pressing some keys. Tyler however, carefully inspected the papers on her desk and drawers.
There were... Coffee beans, gloves, a hairnet, pens, pencils, highlighters notebooks and papers... generally office stationary, and... a metal stirring rod and coffee cups?
"A metal stirring rod... Two of them." Tyler muttered after having found another one under a stack of paper.
"What about them?" Selene asked while she contimued rapidly typing on Carla's keyboard.
"Can't you stab someone with this?" Tyler asked suspiciously.
"As if you'd want to stab anyone, Tyler." Grumbled Selene as she then pulled a usb out of her pocket and then plugged it into the CPU as she then tapped her fingers on her arm in irritation as filed began converting themselves and copying themselves to the USB.
"What are you doing, Selene?" Tyler whispered through his teeth.
Selene sighed and stood yp from the chair and straightened out her smart pencil skirt."I took some of the more suspicious articles on her computer. We might need them in the-"
A knock on the door came and Tyler and Selene looked at each other in worry. Selene closed the tab for the USB transfer and then the door opened slowly as they hid behind a large box containing papers and a desk drawer.
"That scoundrel..." Someone muttered as they entered the room. Their voice was deep and muffled as they continued muttering to themselves.
Tyler listened eagerly and brought out a voice recorder given to him by Rick as Geoffrey convinced him.
"Challenging me... Coffee..." They then muttered again.
"Let's see... Where did I put-" They then began rummaging in one of the drawers. It was the one containing office supplies and Coffe making implements...
'Why would she look in there?' Tyler thought.
"Aha! Found them. The bag and the tool..." They then said in triumph. "Perfect."
They then grew silent for a bit and then Selene began to shake.
'The USB!!! Have they seen it?!' Tyler asked himself as they then heard a sigh and the sound of rustling fabric.
"This will do then... It will be... A cup of coffee to die for..." They then muttered to themselves.
There was the sound of footsteps, papers and pens falling, the door opening, the door closing, and then...
Silence.
"Is it safe to exit the room now?" Selene whispered to Tyler.
"I don't know... She might have seen the USB..." Tyler whispered back.
"Stay here. I'll check on my USB." Selene whispered to him as she slowly stepped out of their hiding place.
"Don't!!!" Tyler said.
Selene put a finger to her lips and winked at him as she slowly walked over to the monitor and cautiously looked around.
She then opened up the tab of the USB's transfery process and saw that it was completed.
She breathed out a sigh of relief which Tyler heard and then, he left the spot and carefully walked over to Selene.
"We're good?" Tyler asked her.
She nodded, pulled out the USB, placed it in her pocket, and they left the room.
