Someone special
Mature language used ~ Hope you don't mind, because I like this one!
Opposites attract, so they say. Well, this has never been more true. In this world, people are born with a power. Yet, somewhere close, someone will be born with the opposite power, and that person would be their soulmate. For example, Marinette's parents had the powers of protection and of attack. Sabine always thought she was cursed with this power, as it did not reflect her caring and passive nature at all, but Tom cancelled her out. They fit each other, like puzzle pieces.
Marinette herself was special. She had the powers of creation, which meant her soulmate would have the powers of destruction. Both were very powerful, most would love to have a power like that. She was careful not to show it off too much because of this reason, she would get used for her abilities to create anything conceivable. She wanted true friendship, not just fake.
Her two friends, Alya and Nino, were completely oblivious to their obviously being soulmates. Alya manipulates fire, while Nino manipulates water. He uses it to get water away from his electronics. Alya likes to heat up her coffee.
Marinette doesn't know what Adrien's power was. She knew he probably wasn't her soulmate, but she couldn't help but hope.
Yet one day was more fateful than the others, she was forced to reveal herself to everyone in her class, and she found her soulmate.
Chloe was upset. She was always upset at something, but whatever was wrong had her completely furious. So furious, she started screaming and yelling at her poor friend, Sabrina. Everyone in the room was shocked - Chloe had even started crackling with energy. Chloe was literally electric - she produced electricity and could let it out in powerful bursts or power anything.
"YOU LOST IT?! THAT WAS THE MOST EXPENSIVE NECKLACE DADDY COULD FIND, AND YOU LOST IT?!" She screeched at the cowering girl, who looked up in fear. Sabrina's power to see any event in the world wouldn't help her.
"Chloe, calm down-" Adrien tried to soothe the girl, who just brushed off his attempts. Chloe was very temperamental normally, and while her power was in use, almost nothing could calm her unless she let it out somehow. And her target was Sabrina.
"SHE DESERVES IT!" Chloe was about to hit Sabrina with an energy burst, when Marinette's desperation grew and she called out.
"Chloe, wait!"
Surprisingly, the blond girl stopped, and turned to face Marinette. She was standing up, a hand outstretched. Swallowing hard, the blunette spoke again, knowing all eyes in the classroom were on her.
"If... if we get the necklace back, will you promise not to hurt Sabrina?" She pleadingly stared into Chloe's eyes, noting as the fury started to mellow out, but still on a grand scale. Chloe lowered her arm, and smirked.
"You have five minutes."
Marinette walked over to Nathanael, who could accurately draw anything he had seen, even if he barely glanced at it. "Can you draw the necklace?" The red headed boy nodded, and quickly drew an extremely accurate picture. It was exactly like a photograph, and Marinette could've said it was one if she hadn't seen him draw it. She nodded a thanks to Nathanael, before standing a metre or so from Chloe. Taking a deep breath, Marinette extended a palm upwards and created the necklace anew.
"Oh look, Marinette's an illusionist. Sorry, but illusion won't do. Sabrina gets it." Chloe laughed maliciously and was about to turn away when a sparkle caught her eye. She stared in shock as Marinette held out the completely solid necklace, and gasped when a real necklace was dropped in her hand. Suddenly, she was presented with a real wooden bowl of water.
"Direct the energy into that." Marinette muttered before brushing past her and going to Sabrina. Placing a comforting arm on the trembling girl, she offered a smile. "Are you okay?" Sabrina nodded, thanking Marinette silently. The red head knew what Marinette doing by revealing her powers - she was opening herself to a world of manipulators and those who only want to use her.
"M-Marinette?" Alya cut through the silence like a knife through butter. Sighing, Marinette straightened her back to stare at her best friend, who looked shocked and hurt. And Marinette knew exactly why she would feel that way.
"I'm sorry I never told you, Alya. I had to know you were a real friend, not someone who used me for my powers, you know?" Shrugging, she hung her head with a melancholy sigh. "I could create any object in the world. I never need anything, because I could conjure it in the blink of an eye. With a power like that, you learn to appreciate the things you can never create. Friends, family, love, I can't make that appear, and when the possibility that those emotions, those relationships are fake is very high?" She extended her palm again, this time pulling a photo from the air, a photo of herself and her family and her friends, a photo that was never taken but existed anyway. "I could have everything, but I would have no-one to share it with."
"That's why you understand." Adrien whispered to himself, filled now with complete understanding. A model whose father was a famous fashion designer? He himself had fears of false friendship. Then it hit him. His was the power of destruction. Marinette's was creation. Marinette was his soulmate.
"Oh Marinette..." Alya's voice was full of sympathy and warmth. Standing up, she hugged her best friend, holding her close. "I don't care what you can give me. You're my BFF, no matter what, girl."
Marinette smiled through teary eyes. "Thank you, Alya." Taking a deep breath, she met Chloe's eyes. The blond was no longer crackling with energy and was just staring at the necklace, to Marinette, to the necklace again. When Marinette got a good look at her eyes, she was shocked to see them filled with understanding instead of jealousy. Chloe gave a small nod towards Marinette, to which she returned with a nod and a smile.
"Can you create anything that's alive?" Alya asked excitedly. Chuckling at her bouncing friend, Marinette nodded.
"It uses up a lot of my energy to do that though. I'll be drained for the rest of the day." Marinette took one look at Alya's excited face and sighed, this time playfully, before cupping her hands together, enclosing a space of air. Her eyes closed and eyebrows furrowed before a bright pink light escaped her fingers. Smiling tiredly, she opened her hands to reveal a white butterfly that fluttered out of her palm. "Bye bye little butterfly." She whispered gently, watching as the insect flew out the window.
"Marinette, that's amazing." Rose clapped. The blunette blushed slightly and looked down, only now realizing all the attention she was getting. Adrien was trying not to stare, only now that he knows she's his soulmate, he can't help but notice just how amazing she was. This girl was kind, stood up for herself and for others, was passionate, she was funny and adorably clumsy, and he noticed how beautiful she was. Her unusual yet radiant blue-black hair that highlighted her bluebell eyes, her perfectly porcelain pale skin, her soft pink lips, and her figure... He quickly cut off that thought, embarrassed at where it was going.
Nino noticed how Adrien was staring very pointedly at his desk, a red blush painting his cheeks while everyone else's attention was on Marinette. Smiling, the model's best friend nudged him with his elbow, a knowing look in his eye. "About time, dude." He whispered, and nodded towards Marinette who was giggling cutely at something Alya said. The class had calmed down, and everyone was seated yet again in their seats, but the subject was Marinette and who her soulmate could be.
Oblivious to the class's discussions, Marinette continued to create objects from thin air. It was incredibly difficult to avoid using powers for a long period of time, so finally having an outlet, she could release her pent up energy. The energy expended when she created the butterfly had quickly refilled.
Alya asked for many things, but it was only because she wanted to show off her best friend and because she knew this rule as well. While Alya may appear to be carefree and erratic, she cared deeply about her friends, Marinette especially. So seeing her best friend glow with happiness while she created something new out of the palm of her hand, it made her feel warm.
Marinette frowned playfully as she accidentally made something too heavy to pick up. "If there were ever a time I wanted to know who my soulmate is, it's now." She joked, giggling with Alya at the solid block of metal. Adrien picked up on this and took a deep breath, summoning forth his powers and turning around to touch the block, making it decay into black ashes that dissolved in the air.
Marinette stared at the blond boy who smiled sheepishly, glancing down to where the block had been and back at him. Her face slowly broke out into a grin as Alya squealed, his face melted into relief as he let out a pent up breath.
"So, soulmates, huh?" Marinette giggled again, unable to stop smiling at him. "I like the sound of that." She said softly, mostly to herself, but of course, Adrien heard, and he grinned. A mischievous smirk overtook Marinette's face as she poked Alya. "Well, I know who mine is, how do you not realise who's yours?!"
Alya looked confused. "You know who my soulmate is? They'd have to be able to manipulate water, right?" Nino turned to face Marinette as well. She was hopeful he'd figure it out, but of course, her hope was to no avail.
"Yeah. Who do you know who can manipulate water?" He asked, just as dense. Marinette and Adrien simultaneously face-palmed at the pair's ignorance. What's worse is that Alya liked Nino, and Nino liked Alya, and they still had no idea!
"Idiots." She muttered, Alya ignoring her as she playfully whined as Nino put out her fire. Adrien nodded, staring at the interaction between the two.
"Agreed." Marinette and Adrien locked eyes and both formed identical glints of mischief in their eyes. Anyone watching them would definitely know those two were soulmates, by the looks in their eyes and the way they instantly knew what the other was thinking. Honestly, the two were made for each other. But then again, most soulmates were, hence the name 'soulmates'.
"Wouldn't Nino's soulmate have to manipulate fire, as he manipulates water, Marinette?" Adrien asked, loud enough to catch the two's attention. Stifling a giggle, she played along.
"Yeah, and Alya's would have to manipulate water, seeing as she manipulates fire. Coincidence?" They met eyes again. Marinette knew exactly what he would say, and grinned.
"I think not!" Adrien said triumphantly, turning to face Alya and Nino who were now staring at each other in shock and blushes. "Finally! Guys, you've been so oblivious, it was getting frustrating."
Alya pouted, trying to cool her cheeks. "Neither of you two would reveal your powers! If that wasn't frustrating, I don't know what is." Marinette rolled her eyes.
"We had reasonable explanations. You two were just plain stupid." She poked Alya's cheek teasingly and laughed as she scowled. Nino chuckled and accepted the fact that they were both total dumbasses.
Later, after school, the four had agreed to hang out, and Adrien was paying extra attention to Marinette. When she wasn't stuttering or blushing, she was an incredible tease and very sassy. It took a lot in him to not pounce on her when she cocked a hip and placed a hand on her side, but his inner confident flirt was inner for a reason. He had an image to uphold. Maybe he'd let his wild side show if they were in private, but not out in the open.
Marinette was not a shy girl in reality, in fact, she was as confident in herself as the super-heroine from that one comic series all four loved, 'The Miraculous Tales of Ladybug and Chat Noir'. In fact, now that she knew Adrien was her soulmate, she even flirted with him a few times. This, of course, left Adrien flabbergasted and in a blushing stupor, or with a sly grin on his face. Once or twice, she came very close to his face, making his heart pound and pupils dilate, only to tap his nose and pull away with a giggle.
The friends had gone over to Marinette's house once Nino announced he was hungry. She was lounging on her chaise, absently stretched out while she sketched and the other three chattered over croissants and tea that Sabine had insisted on. Adrien thoughts kept wandering to the girl who kept stretching in a cat like way, occasionally yawning. Marinette glanced outside and shot up.
"Oh shit!" She swore, startling everyone. Adrien followed her gaze and likewise swore when he saw that it was dark out, then sucked in his breath when he noticed the... twelve missed calls... Alya and Nino just chuckled at the two and stood.
"Well, this has been fun, but I think that it is time for us to head off. Wouldn't you say so, Nino?" Alya nudged the boy who nodded. Adrien stood as well, making Marinette jump up to walk them to the door. Alya and Nino left first, while Adrien looked over at Marinette.
"So... what do you want to do about... us?" He asked tentatively. The girl beside him continued to stare out at the quiet Parisian street and shrugged.
"We don't know each other all that well, do we?" She replied in as just a soft tone as he had used. "So let's work on that, and... see where it takes us." He nodded, agreeing silently before dipping his head to kiss her cheek.
"Bye, Mari." He smiled as he noticed her red cheeks and frozen stance. She absently nodded, giving a slight wave as he headed off into the night.
The two of them couldn't sleep. Marinette was on her balcony, while Adrien was sitting next to his open window. He was remembering his mother's words, telling him find his special someone and to love and cherish his soulmate. Marinette was thinking of her old grandmother, telling her to have the time of her life with her soulmate just minutes before she died.
"I did it, Mother."
"I found him, Grandmama."
"And she's perfect."
"And he's perfect."
"You would've loved her."
"You would've approved."
"She's so kind and sweet, and so adventurous too."
"He's really sweet and caring, but he has a wild side."
"I found someone special."
"I found someone special."
"And I'm not letting her go."
"And I'm not letting him go."
I was wondering why this was taking so long to write, then I looked at the word count. Over 2400 words. Oops, went a bit overboard. Anyway, eat this to satisfy your hungry little minds and I'll peace out.
