Pranksters
Let's pretend Alya and Marinette have always been BFF's and always gone to the same school, mkay? For the purposes of this one-shot.
"IT'S APRIL FOOLS!!" Marinette jumps for joy and throws her prank pack together. Every year, Alya, Kim, Max and herself go around pranking teachers and students alike. Marinette always brings whoopie cushions, whipped cream, butter, wigs and 'presents'. In these presents are the funniest, most disgusting or most terrifying things you could safely get in a box. And because Adrien was new this year, and didn't know about their tradition, he would be pranked HARD.
Yes, this particular day would be hard for Marinette, but with Kim and Max and Alya, she could be normal around Adrien for once.
Slinging the duffle bag over her shoulder along with her regular school bag and her purse, she gives her parents a kiss before running to school to meet the three early. Alya usually brings makeup, permanent markers, laughing gas (don't ask how), helium (stashed away in a closet), balloons, spray paint and she films everything that happens. Kim is the executor, usually carrying out all the pranks, and Max provides information about everyone.
"Marinette! Right on time. Got the checklist?" Alya exchanges a smirk with her best friend. "Helium in the boy's bathroom first. We're going to use three canisters, and Kim's gonna replace it twice." Kim nods and ties a scarf around his face so he doesn't inhale the helium, and we run off to get the canisters.
Today is going to be greaaaat.
In class
Adrien walks in to find a note and a box on his desk and Marinette and Alya laughing their heads off while Nino sits there scowling. He read the note first.
Chocolates from your secret admirer! XX.
Confused, he opens the box, then jumps back and yells at the huge hairy spider that just jumped out, not noticing Marinette and Alya laughing harder and high-fiving. Another note is on the lid.
Happy April Fools.
"Uh, Nino? Who put this here?" He asks his friend, his heart still beating in shock. He still doesn't notice Marinette picking up the spider and placing it in a box which has the label of 'Fluffy'.
"Swore to secrecy, but they're the same people who did this to my voice." His voice is squeaky and high-pitched, and Adrien can't help but laugh. Now he knew why Nino was scowling earlier!
"Once this day is over, we'll tell all, Adrien. Promise." Surprisingly, it's not Alya who says this, but Marinette, still snickering at Nino's voice. She smirks and winks at him before pulling out a box from a bag that she's never brought before. "Chocolate, anyone?" She grins and pops one in her mouth.
Nino grumbles and reaches out to grab one. Eating it, his eyes widen and his face goes red. "Holy shi- Damn it, Marinette! How are you so innocent every other day of the year apart from this one?!" He glares at the blunette who gives him an overall innocent look.
"Whatever do you mean Nino? These are just regular chocolates. See?" She pops another in her mouth and smirks slyly. "Adrien, would you like one?" Cautiously, I take one from her and place it in my mouth.
Chili. That darn girl put chili in the chocolate.
Alya bursts out laughing. "Your face is sooo red, it's almost as bad as Marinette when she's embarrassed!"
Marinette slaps her friends on the arm. "Today is the day for causing embarrassment, my dear Alya." She hears high-heels clicking and gasps excitedly. "And now for the best part!"
Chloe comes in enraged. Why? Because her hair is covered in honey and flour, as well as her face being covered in spots.
Oh yeah, Marinette and Alya pranked her overnight by switching her shampoo with honey and putting flour in her hairdryer, and they put itching powder in her face powder. However, she doesn't know that, so she just sits down and looks angry. It takes everything in Adrien to not laugh when a fart noise is heard the moment she sits. The blond girl gasps and picks up a whoopie cushion off her seat.
Marinette leans back in her seat with a satisfied smirk on her face, although she immediately jumps up when Kim and Max run into the classroom.
"How'd it go?! Did you get him?" She asks excitedly. Kim nods and Max adjusts his glasses.
"He should wake in approximately 6.3 seconds." Marinette giggles and steps out into the hallway. Curious, Adrien moves to stand just behind her.
"What are you looking for?" He asks, and Marinette places a finger on his lips, shushing him. He blushes slightly at the usually shy girl's forward actions, but Marinette just smirks. She's having far too much fun messing with him.
"Just watch."
At that moment, Mr Damocles bursts out of his office with whipped cream and sprinkles on top his head, and more cream smeared on his face.
"WHO DID THIS?!" He yells, furious. Marinette lets out a quiet yelp and drags Adrien back into the classroom.
"Quick, sit down in your regular spots, Kim, stash the bags in the cupboard." She pushes Adrien towards his seat and throws the two bags at Kim who just as quickly puts them in a cupboard and closes it just as the Headmaster stomps into the classroom.
"Does anyone know about this?" He fumes. Even Chloe doesn't speak up, just sits there and studies her nails. Storming out of the classroom, he calls back. "Tell me if you discover the culprit of these godforsaken pranks! I knew I shouldn't have turned up today..." He mutters the last sentence and Marinette high-fives Alya.
"Okay, what is going on with you four?" Adrien turns and faces Marinette, Alya, Kim and Max. Marinette grins and leans forward, getting really close to his face.
"Adrien Agreste, welcome to April fools at Collège Françoise Dupont." She whispers and pushes his head around with a finger and leans back again, a playful smirk resting on her face.
WHAT IN THE GREATEST HECK. Adrien's face grows very red and his heart beats faster than he'd like to admit. What was up with her? What was up with him?! Only Ladybug could make his heart beat this fast... but Marinette's doing a pretty darn good job.
"It's been 30 minutes since the bell rang, I'm betting Ms Bustier didn't turn up today, which means a sub. Perfect, don't you agree, Alya?" Her tone of voice is sly as a cat. She's acting a lot like Chat today, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Wait, how is that not a bad thing? She'll flirt with you. DAMN IT ADRIEN, NOT THE THING TO BE THINKING ABOUT.
"Indeed, Marinette. Subs generally don't suspect a thing."
"Max, stats?" Marinette stands up and stretches, before walking over to Kim and leaning an arm on his shoulder. Adrien contains his sour look and instead listens to satisfy his curiosity.
"76% chance our substitute will be male and will turn up in approximately 12.4 minutes."
"Fantastic. Kim? How about butter on the doorknob and a 'present' for our substitute?"
"On it."
Kim goes into Marinette's bag and pulls out a stick of butter. He rubs it against the outer doorknob as well as the knobs for drawers on the teacher's desk while Marinette pulls out three boxes from her bag of wonders.
"Alya, stink bomb, Jack-in-the-box or dough catapult?"
"Dough catapult. Don't want to have to deal with the stink bomb."
"Alright." She places the box on the front desk and rips off the label. Alya looks outside to see someone coming.
"Teacher incoming!"
Kim darts back to his seat while Marinette slides onto the desk and pretends to have been scrolling on her phone. Whoever the teacher is tries to open the door, only to have his hand slip off several times. Groaning, he lifts the hem of his shirt and uses it to open the door. His eyes zero in on Marinette sitting on the desk.
"What do you think you're doing?" He walks up to the girl and looks down on her. She pretends to have just noticed him and glances up.
"Oh, sorry sir! Won't happen again!" She says cheerfully before pushing herself off the desk and sitting down.
"I'll let you off this time." He chuckles deeply. The 20 year old male teacher's gaze lingers slightly on her form before addressing the class.
Ugh. Pervert, flirting with a 15 year old girl. He's like twice her age! Well not really, but still. Adrien grumbles, glaring slightly at the teacher, who was being stared at by majority of the girls in the class. Marinette just sat back in her seat and looked at him politely.
"My name is Mr. Moreau and I'm your substitute today! First things first - what is this box?" Majority of the class played it cool and shrugged. He curiously opened the box to a ball of dough thrown at his face. He sighed. "Of course. It's April fools. What else would I expect? Excuse me while I clean this off."
"He wasn't fun to prank." Marinette pouts as soon as he leaves. "He barely reacted."
Alya shows her friend her phone. "Yeah but he looked hilarious." The two burst out into laughter at the sight of the teacher covered in dough. They calm themselves as Mr. Moreau comes back in.
"Now, as I have no clue who any of you are, feel free to whatever you want. I just don't want to get pranked again, got it?" He smiles charmingly and half the girls swoon. Marinette being in the half that didn't. Adrien was secretly proud of her.
"So, what is all this pranking, Marinette? Care to spill?" The blond model turns to face the girl. She smiles.
"Not yet, Monsieur Agreste, there's still much more to come." She taps his nose, watching the blood rush to his face with a smirk. "And I thought I got flustered." She winks at him before pulling out her sketchbook and drawing.
This is a new side to her... Alya bursts out laughing at the exact same time as Nino. "Marinette, why aren't you like this all the time?" The blunette looks up at her friends.
"Dunno. Pranking, girl, it brings out my confident side. Pranking and fighting."
"Fighting? You fight?" For the first time, Marinette blushes and hides her face at her slip up.
"I used to take tae kwon do, and gymnastics, and a little bit of fencing about a year ago..." She trails off, the (adorkable) blush fading.
"Fencing? You and I should spar sometime, then. I could use the practice." Adrien smiles at her and she returns it.
"Sure. Beware, I may accidentally stab myself or you, being the clumsy girl I am." She mimes stabbing herself and Adrien laughs at her dramatic flair. Internally, Marinette has been freaking out since she first smirked at him, yet she won't let it show. This is not a day for weakness and crushes. This is a day for exploiting weakness and possibly crushes!
"Marinette, you should be like this all the time." Nino grins at the blunette and she grins back.
"Oh, so you want more pranks?" She says with a mischievous glint in her bluebell eyes. Nino, shaking his head rapidly, waved his hands in front of him.
"NO NO NO GO BACK TO THE SWEET INNOCENT MARINETTE WE KNOW AND LOVE FOR GOOD REASON!" He yelled, panicked. Marinette snickered and leaned back in her seat, arms behind her head and feet up on the desk.
"For good reason?" Adrien questioned. Nino shrugged and opened his mouth but Marinette darted forward and covered it before he could speak.
"Shh Nino, all will be explained when the day is done."
Later
Marinette had raced out of the classroom to the Gorilla, Adrien's bodyguard, in order to ask him if Gabriel Agreste was home and if it was safe to stink bomb a room or two. The Gorilla, however scary he looked, was actually good friends with Marinette due to her babysitting his daughter every now and then, and the two would sometimes plot to prank Adrien every now and then. You'd think Nathalie would help too but she doesn't want to risk her job, while the Gorilla has another job during Adrien's school hours to fall back onto.
He chuckled his deep chuckle and agreed to sneak her stink bombs in. Oh, I am sooo glad the Gorilla is my friend.
However, Adrien has no idea of this unlikely friendship, and certainly doesn't expect it when the stoic-faced Gorilla takes a picture of him running out of his bathroom and sends it to Marinette.
At the school, Marinette took one look at Adrien and laughed her head off. He had no clue why, only Alya and the Gorilla knew of her plans. But she laughed, and he looked confused, as she walked into the classroom and flopped down on her seat.
There was another plus side to this day. Chloe was nice to the confident and mischievous Marinette, together they caused so much trouble, especially because Chloe could always pull the Mayor's daughter card to get them out of being caught. So, as Marinette lounged in her seat, she texted Chloe the picture of Adrien with the caption 'Courtesy of the Gorilla and yours truly'. They made eye contact as soon as the blond saw the photo and they both started laughing. Alya and Nino knew exactly what was going on, but Adrien didn't.
"Chloe, look at his expression!" Marinette pointed at the boy in front of her who was sitting with the most adorable confused look on his face, forehead furrowed and a slight pout as he tried to figure out what was going on. Chloe immediately took a photo.
"That is going in the album. I always love it when the new kids come along, eh Marinette?" The blond girl winks at the blunette, and she nods with a smirk resting on her face.
"Remember when Alix first came?" The two snickered, remembering the tomboy's furious expression after Marinette poured slime on her while Chloe distracted her. At that moment, Alix walked in to see the two grinning mischievously, and immediately walked out.
"I am SO not dealing with those two." She yelled as she walked out the door. Marinette collapsed into laughter while Chloe looked offended.
"Excuse me, but I am delightful to deal with."
"Yeah, so are Chat Noir's puns." Marinette threw Chloe a smirk and she rolled her eyes in return.
"Okay, this is the weirdest part of Marinette on April Fools." Alya commented, watching the two who were mortal enemies throwing around banter like old friends. Well, technically, they were old friends, just more... frenemies?
"I can agree with you on that, Alya." Nino was staring at the two as well, although his was with one eyebrow raised.
"Oh, Alya, honey, if only you could see me with a certain cat, you would not be surprised." She winked and grinned at Alya's reaction.
"Oh my god, you know Chat Noir?! Can you get me an interview?!" She fan-girl-ed right there and the unusually confident girl beside her snickered.
"Got you one with Ladybug, didn't I? I'll see what I can do."
Adrien turned to face her again. "You know Ladybug?" His eyes sparkled with curiosity. Of course she knew Chat Noir, he visited her all the time while he was supposed to be patrolling. But Ladybug too?
"Yup. I tell her about how Chat always skips patrols and distracts me from homework." She pouts, rather cutely if Adrien were to have his say. "Dumb cat. Adorable, but dumb none-the-less." he flushes red slightly. She just called his alter-ego adorable! What about Adrien? Did she think his civilian form was adorable too?"
"OMG do you like Chat Noir?!" Alya squeals and shakes Marinette, who raises an eyebrow.
"Als, you know I have my eye on someone already. If he wasn't here, I might give Chat a chance. Actually, they're equally adorable, so... Maybe? I dunno, stop making me confused." She wacks her best friends head, scowling slightly and mostly smirking. Adrien's heart skipped a beat. She likes another guy?! Hold on. SHE LIKES CHAT NOIR?!
"I think if you're like this, then you and Chat are made for each other." Alya punches her friend on the shoulder, who rolls her eyes in a very Ladybug way, amused yet exasperated. "See? You even roll your eyes like Ladybug!" Alya grins and Marinette giggles.
Finally, the bell rings, and everyone rushes to the door... except Marinette, Alya, Kim and Max. That should've been the first sign. Because when they opened the door, a bucket filled with flour dropped down and the four burst out laughing. Chloe shrieks, Alix smears some on Kim's laughing face, Nino sighs and Adrien looks dumbfounded.
Marinette jumps up onto a desk. "Happy April Fools, everyone! You survived another year!" She yells. "Now, I have a promise to keep." She jumps down and grabs Adrien's arm. "Every April Fools me, Alya, Kim and Max get together and prank our unfortunate classes and the teachers. Last year, we even got the Mayor! It was so good." She snickered before smiling at him Moving closer and making his heart beat furiously, she kissed his cheek. "Thanks for being a good sport."
Bounding out of the classroom, she left a flour covered Adrien with an outline of a pair of lips on his cheek standing dumbstruck.
He was deciding whether or not April Fools was his favourite day of the year, or his most dreaded.
Because this prankster side to Marinette was hotter than he'd like to admit.
