Love Like You

you know what's coming guys

creds to the songs go to lindsey stirling aka crazy talented violinist and rebecca sugar aka the sugar woman aka the creator of one of the greatest shows existing today

Adrien's prowess on the piano was well known. He was extremely talented, mainly from a decade of practice, so he was the logical answer to 'Do you guys know a pianist?' Nino could play the drums. Alya could play the bass. They were planning to play a sweet song from a favourite cartoon of theirs in the Student's Concert, but the piano was a main part, and thus they needed a pianist.

Leave Nino to ask Adrien, and Alya to coax Marinette into singing.

"Come on Marinette, your voice is amazing! Please?" Alya begged, pouting as Marinette shook her head frantically.

"No, no! I'll mess up, trip over something or forget the lyrics or-"

"Alya, still haven't got Marinette in yet?" Nino interrupted, Adrien in tow. Of course, the blonde boy agreed, ecstatic to be able to put his skills to good use. Well, good use by his standards.

Alya turned to face Nino, a hand on her hip. "Nope. She thinks she'll mess up."

"And I will! When I told you that I like singing, I didn't mean I was good at it!" Marinette folded her arms.

"So sing something. Show us if you're so terrible." Alya mirrored Marinette, a smirk playing at her lips when Marinette suddenly dropped the offensive and shrank in on herself.

"I... um... oh fine." She conceded, eyes pulled to the ground, avoiding eye contact. Taking a breath, she opened her mouth to sing softly. "What we had was beautiful, I didn't want to wreck it all. Every day I think about the truth. I wish I was, I wish I was brave enough to love you. Brave enough to love you. I wish I was, I wish I was brave enough to love you. Brave enough to love you."

(brave enough by linsey stirling ft christina perri very good song would recommend)

Alya, Nino and Adrien blinked before Alya laughed, Nino whooped and Adrien clapped (polite lil muffin that he is).

"Not good at singing my ass. Girl, you could sing with Jagged Stone." Alya scoffed, lifting Marinette's head with a hand. "You can do this. You just gotta try." The brunette's voice lowered, her soft side showing through as she smiled warmly at her best friend. Marinette allowed a small smile to grace her face before determination set in her eyes.

"Okay. I'll do it. What song do I need to memorise?"

~*~

"Okay Marinette, you can do this." Marinette murmured to herself, trying to vanquish the fluttering feeling in her chest and the constricting feeling in her throat. "Do it for them, for her, for him." (all the steven universe references) She peeked around the curtain to see a packed hall. Disappearing again, she groaned. "I can't do this! Okay, who do you feel most comfortable with, who do you not mind singing with, who do you not mind being seen as stupid to..." She tried to think, tried to come up with someone who she could imagine by her side...

Alya wouldn't help, whenever she was discussing Ladybug, it made her extremely anxious.

Nino was a DJ, so he had a professional opinion so that wouldn't help...

Adrien was Adrien...

Chat.

In fact, the whole song could be a secret tribute to Chat from her.

That was it. She would sing a song to Chat Noir.

"Come on Mari, we're on." Alya handed her a microphone and led her onstage.

Marinette took a deep breath, closed her eyes and imagined that instead of an auditorium filled with parents and students, she was just singing to Chat. On their favourite rooftop, when the night wind was gentle and encouraging and the music from the streets was drifting up. She imagined his smile, just as gentle and encouraging as the wind, and how he'd probably clap wildly and say she was practically a superstar. His electric green eyes surrounded by the black of his mask glittering with amusement and wonder and love like they always did...

The piano started.

She opened her eyes, saw Chat Noir leaning against a railing and began.

"If I could begin to be half of what you think of me,
I could do about anything
I could even learn how to love.

When I see the way you act, wondering when I'm coming back
I could do about anything
I could even learn how to love like you.
"

His eyes would gleam and his mouth would quirk upwards, probably thinking she was singing about him. Stupid alley cat. Well, he wasn't wrong.

"I always thought I might be bad, now I'm sure that it's true
'Cause I think you're so good
And I'm nothing like you

Look at you go, I just adore you
I wish that I knew
What makes you think I'm so special.
"

He would probably frown at that, displeased that she couldn't see her own self-worth, about to rant about how amazing she is and how she was so much better than him. To which she would shake her head and say they were equals, partners.

"If I could begin to do something that does right by you,
I would do about anything
I would even learn how to love...
"

He would say "You always do right by me, milady."

"When I see the way you look, shaken by how long it took

I could do about anything
I could even learn how to love like you.
"

He would smile and hug her.

"Love like you.

Love me like you."

And he would hug her tighter, as if to take some of the love for her in his heart and transfer it into hers so that she would see how amazing she was.

The applause shook her back to reality.

Suddenly, the moon wasn't her spotlight but a giant bright bulb was. The music wasn't drifting up from the streets below but from her friends behind her. Saddest of all, Chat wasn't her attentive listener, but instead parents and classmates all clapping as she walked offstage.

~*~

She sat high above the Parisian streets, listening to the cars go by and the people laugh and talk as they go out with friends, family, loved ones. The moon was out this time, it wasn't a daydream. The stars were bright, glittering in the sky much like a shattered disco ball across the inky blackness.

Chat landed behind her. They had just finished patrol for the evening, but it seemed neither wanted to go home just yet.

He sat beside her, gazing at her with that adorable love-struck smile of his. She continued to gaze out at her city, a smile replacing the thoughtful expression she had on earlier.

"Chat?"

"Yes, milady?"

"I... wanted to say thank you."

His smile dropped, replaced by a curious bewildered expression far too cute. "Whatever for, milady?"

She let out a breathy chuckle. "For being my best friend." He was still silent, so she continued. "I had to perform with my friends today. I had to sing in front of, I don't know, 500 people or so. I couldn't do it at first, too nervous to even go out there. But... I imagined you. My best friend, the boy who loves me, and I imagined that we were standing right here and I was singing to you, and you would have that stupid smile on your face and you would hug me at the end and I... realised how much that means to me. That someone knows me well enough to know that I'm nervous but believe I can do it anyway. So, thank you." She rested her head on his shoulder with a tired sigh. "I know it's hard for you, kitty, and I'm sorry, but I'm trying. I love you, I truly do, but I don't think it's fair to you to start something when there's still the other boy."

Chat slid an arm around her shoulders. "I know, Bugaboo." A moment of comfortable silence passed between them, the sounds of nightlife and citizens and the wind filling the space between them until Chat decided to speak again. "What did you sing?"

Ladybug smiled, eyes closed. "Love Like You, you know, the song from Steven Universe?"

"Will you... sing it for me?"

"How about something else? Something that means more?"

"Go ahead, I'm listening."

"There's some thing I should've said.

I was too afraid.
It was just so hard to let you know.
Now it's all too late

What we had was beautiful,"

Chat tensed. He recognised that voice, that song.

"I didn't want to wreck it all."

Could it really be that easy...?

"Every day I think about the truth...

I wish I was, I wish I was
Brave enough to love you
Brave enough to love you

I wish I was, I wish I was

Brave enough to love you
Brave enough to love you.
"

"Marinette?"

She jerked her head up, wide awake now. "What did you say?"

Chat stared at her, reaching out and cupping her face. "Marinette?" He repeated, awestruck and stroking her cheek. "Is... Has it really been you the entire time?"

Marinette would've panicked, but she was not Marinette right then. So, shakily, she nodded, eyes dropping downwards. "I'm so, so sorry Chat..."

"Why are you sorry?" He gently asked, lifting her head like Alya did earlier that day. "Why would you ever need to be sorry for being that amazing girl?"

"Because... because..." She faltered, unable to find a reason if he wasn't disappointed in her.

"Does that mean your crush, your blind prince, is Adrien Agreste?"

She nodded shamefully.

"He's not as blind as you think, Princess."

He pulled her up from where they were sitting, moving backwards onto the rooftop as to be safe from watching eyes and released his transformation. In a flash of crackling green light, there stood... Adrien. With Chat's smile.

Her hands flew to her mouth, tears pricking at her eyes. "Adrien...?"

"Yes?"

"I... I think that means I really do love you completely after all."

"Good, because now that I've found you, I'm never letting you go."
