Babysitting and dancing
Got this idea off another one-shot book, I'll look them up and credit them at the end, and they did it SO WELL it was so cute now I want to one!!!
"MANON, PLEASE!" Marinette shrieked at the devilish girl who was about to knock over her mother's vase. Quickly leaping over the couch to grab it, she set it back on the small table. Sighing, the blunette ran a hand through her hair, which was very disheveled at this point, and glanced at the clock. 3 more hours. She suppressed a groan. Why couldn't she ever say no?
Looking out the window for a second, her eyes met with the park and she had an idea. The park will use up her energy. Grabbing her brush and quickly fixing her hair, Marinette called for the girl.
"Manon! We're going to the park, okay?"
Manon appeared in front of her, pouting slightly. "Is your boyfriend going to be there again?"
Marinette immediately blushed bright red, remembering Adrien the last time she went with Manon. Quickly shaking her head, she picks up the child and places her on her shoulders.
"No, and Adrien's not my boyfriend." Marinette gently walks downstairs, outside, to the park, quietly listening to Manon point out things like butterflies and giggling whenever she said 'Bye bye little butterfly!' Maybe she should treat Manon to a visit from Ladybug... As they reach the park, Marinette swings Manon off her shoulders and immediately the little girl ran towards the swings.
"Mari! Come push me!" she demanded, and Marinette gave a little giggle before running up and pushing her. She pushed her higher and higher before running in front, and Manon jumped off into Marinette's ready arms. The past year of being Ladybug has greatly improved her strength, agility, flexibility and accuracy. Laughing, the blunette put the little girl down.
"Manon, do you want an ice-cream?"
Grinning ear to ear, Manon nodded and grabbed Marinette's hand, dragging her to the ice-cream stand that stood to the far side of the park.
As Marinette was preoccupied, she didn't notice Adrien walking through the park to see the two girls having fun. He smiled, watching Marinette and Manon, glad to have come to the park now during his time off. He always enjoyed watching his classmate from afar, when she wasn't awkward or shy, as she reminded him of Ladybug except... more human. He would like to be friends with the girl who was like a human version of the angel he saw as Ladybug.
Marinette bought Manon a strawberry ice-cream and got herself mint-choc-chip. Licking the cold treats, they meandered through the park, pointing out birds and butterflies. Manon did an adorable imitation of a butterfly, to which Marinette was delighted to join her in running around the trees chasing the white winged creatures. Adrien laughed quietly, still watching the two who looked so much like mother and daughter he almost longed to be part of it. No, he did long to be part of it. But sadly, Marinette would not be herself around him, and he didn't want to ruin the time for the child.
Marinette looked up to see an assortment of instruments next to the fountain being played in a joyous tune. Manon giggled and pulled Marinette towards them before grabbing both her hands and spinning around. Marinette laughed loudly, and although Manon let her go, continued to spin gracefully and dance. More and more people joined the fray, clapping in time, as Manon ran over to the blond boy.
Adrien was surprised to say the least when she reached him. And was more shocked at what she called him.
"Hey, Marinette's boyfriend, come dance with me!" She pulled at his hand, and letting out a deep chuckle, he stood up and let himself be pulled by Manon to where Marinette was now dancing beautifully in the centre of a circle. Her shyness was gone, and the moment she saw Adrien, her classmate and long crush, her nervousness was eradicated by the infectious music and she pulled him and Manon into the dance.
His day was already so surprising, he shouldn't have been all that shocked at the forward actions of the usually shy girl. But he was, at first, and it faded soon as he, like Marinette, lost himself in the music and danced in sync with Marinette. Gradually, other couples joined in the dance, and the music got faster and faster. Adrien watched, dazed, as Marinette's hair came loose and whirled around her face, her blue eyes closed and her face lit up with a genuine smile. He spun her, faster and faster, until the music came to a sudden halt and he pulled her flush against his chest.
Marinette opened her eyes, and the cerulean blue of them took his breath away. The way they were sparkling with light and joy and something more, something hidden, just stopped his heart and muddled his mind. She was breathing just as heavily as he was, and she was staring into his emerald green eyes with just as much intensity as he did hers. Marinette grinned, sending a shock through his skin, and pulled back to go back to Manon, who was filming everything under orders from Alya.
He was slightly disappointed, but followed her and hoped that the camera didn't pick up his dazed expression (which of course it did). She laughed, and it stole his breath again, with it's gentle mirth, before she took the camera from Manon. Ruffling her hair slightly, she pulled her own hair up into a bun as she moved close to Adrien in order to show him what Manon had filmed. She stood too close to him, his heart was now racing and his face was getting hot. What was happening to him?
"Manon, you need to stop hanging around Alya so much! I don't want her poisoning your innocence with her shipping talks!" She smiled teasingly at the small girl who sheepishly shuffled one foot. Adrien immediately flushed red at the mention of shipping - did that mean Alya shipped him and Marinette? What about Nino?
"Mari, can Adrien come with us?" Manon pleaded, eyes huge. Marinette looked up at Adrien, asking silently, and he found himself nodding with a real smile. Her face lit up and she returned the smile as the little girl squealed and hugged his leg. He grinned down at Manon in delight - he felt part of a family, for once. Marinette noticed and her face softened, looking at the girl affectionately. He looked up at her and saw the affection, and found himself wishing she would look at him like that. Shaking his head slightly, he cursed himself silently. He was meant to be in love with Ladybug! But Marinette was so... alluring, so infectious, so beautifully human. So reachable.
She lifted Manon and rested her on her hip, and in that moment, looked so motherly that Adrien for a moment he imagined her like that with their child - but quickly tucked the image away. He couldn't think of that now - not when the sweetest girl in Paris was waiting for him to follow her and Manon. Wait. Did he just...? Yes, he did. Man, he fell hard and fast. And all because of a dance. And her eyes. And her face in general. Damn it Adrien, shut up your mind.
"So. Where do you suggest we go, Monsieur Agreste?" She asked, jolting him out of his thoughts. He registered what she said and laughed.
"Monsieur Agreste is my father, Mademoiselle Dupain-Cheng. Where does the little munchkin want to go?" Adrien bent slightly and tapped Manon's nose. This action made Marinette's heart race slightly, and she couldn't help but imagine him as a father. Shaking off the image, she scolded herself. This was meant to be a nice day with Manon and Adrien just so happened to show up and Manon invited him and she wasn't allowed to do anything other than normal because then Adrien would be weirded out and Manon would tell Alya and she would tell Nino and Nino would talk to Adrien and he would be MORE weirded out and she would have RUINED her chances with him forever and they would never get married AND HER LIFE WOULD BE OVER!
Overreaction much, but Marinette was an overreact-or, just as she was a rambler. She overreacted, she rambled, especially when she was nervous.
Manon giggled and pointed towards the Eiffel tower. Marinette smiled warmly at her and shifted the girl on her hip. "The Eiffel tower? Are you sure you're not scared of heights?"
Manon stubbornly pouted and shook her head. "No! I'm not scared! Let's go to the toweler!" Marinette laughed.
"It's tower, Manon, and you absolutely, positively sure? You got scared on my balcony when I brought you up there," she teased, and Manon pouted again.
"Mari, you said you wouldn't tell!" she whined, and Marinette giggled. Putting Manon down, she nudged Adrien with her hip.
"C'mon, Adrien, let's go to the Eiffel tower." Taking the small girl's hand, she started to walk down out to the street, Manon skipping and pointing at random shops or butterflies. What was up with all the butterflies today? It's almost as if a certain deity who controlled all action, thought and feeling in this world set all the pure akumas free so the two lovebirds wouldn't be interrupted.
They reached the Eiffel tower, Manon on Adrien's shoulders, and the sun began to set. The young girl was practically asleep as Marinette gazed across the Paris skyline, with Adrien at her side.
Adrien's thoughts were on the girl beside him, the one that had always been behind him. Nino had told him about the day when she stood up to Chloe, the day after she met him. The day he had given her the umbrella, although that time, he was focused on making a friend and not a crush. Now, today, he was completely focused on the girl with the bluest eyes in existence, and these new-found feelings for her.
She was always there, never quite a friend, yet not an acquaintance, always supporting him, yet never laughing at him. She was a constant ray of sunshine - the classroom wasn't complete until she burst through the door panting. It was Ladybug he fell for first, and now he couldn't remember why as he gazed at the soft smile adorning her face. She was as kind, as strong, as gentle, as smart as Ladybug. The heroine had just stolen his heart a day too early - Marinette would be so much more. She was a mirage, a dream, yet so... touchable, so human. Was he in love again? Perhaps. He wouldn't mind anyway.
She was gazing across the city, spotting her bakery, her school, Adrien's house. She remembered all the times she stood at the very top of this tower - with and without that silly cat. Yes, Chat Noir was endearing with his flirty and confident demeanour, yet Adrien had taken her heart already with his kindness and that loneliness.
She wanted to take away that loneliness, she wanted to make him smile as brightly as the sun. She wanted to make him as confident as Chat, and she wanted to be the one receiving all the stupid puns and flirts. Marinette was very aware of Adrien staring at her, yet in this moment, she didn't let it distract her. She smiled, a nostalgic feeling settling in her stomach, picturing all the late night patrols and the races. She knew that cat had a place in her heart, right next to Adrien. It was just too hard to bring herself to compromise the delicate relationship the two heroes had - that trust could not be discarded. Even if it meant her pain, she had to be strong. For what would Paris be by now without her?
"Hey Marinette, thanks for today. It was really fun." Adrien's soft voice caused her to look at him, drinking in his features bathed in the fading sunlight. Little did she know, Adrien was memorising exactly the way the light hit her face and highlighted her crystal clear eyes. She smiled, a real and truly adoring smile, before answering.
"It was fun, wasn't it?" she whispered, turning slightly to look at the city again. Tears pricked at her eyes, and suddenly she realised she didn't want it to end. She didn't want him to leave, she didn't want Chat to reject her once he found out her identity, she didn't want to fight another akuma, she just wanted to be here. With him. Watching the sun set over her home, waiting for the stars to appear. Adrien noticed the sudden glazing over of her eyes and reached out to place a hand on her shoulder.
"Mari...?"
She glanced at him again before throwing her arms around him. He was shocked at first, before gently holding her closer and fitting her small frame right next to his. "I'm sorry, it's nothing. Can we just... stay like this for a minute or two?" Her voice was muffled by his shirt, and he found himself liking the way it sounded too much, before nodding into her and burying his head in the crook of her neck.
As they stood at the top of the Eiffel tower, at sunset, wrapped in each other, a butterfly dropped a piece of paper to the ground near their feet. Later, it would be translated by the magic of their kwami's together, and it would be revealed to say something they both understood immediately, when standing next to each other. Always together, always behind, next to, in front of one or the other. Without her, he was cold. Without him, she was dark. Without each other, their dreams would have died.
As one, they were whole.
For without the cold, there is no warmth. Without the good, there is no evil. Without the rain, there is no rainbow. Without the yin, there cannot be yang. One needs the other to live happily, one needs the other to die peacefully. But for once, there can be a beginning without an end, for what is seen to be an ending is just a new beginning.
You only need to look for the handle to open the door.
fluff~~~ here, as an apology for the short crappy one I published earlier.
