a different kind of yin and yang

okay but idk why i just downloaded a heck of a lot of doctor who themes, but now i'm listening to them on repeat and nobody can stop me

also this is kind of a different kind of yin and yang (as you can see by the title) but it's in a good way, not an angsty way like the evil Tikki one yesterday

The water was still.

Smooth like freshly cut glass, as reflective as a mirror, not a ripple or splash daring to disturb the motionlessness. Not a single petal fell, not a single leaf, never touching the surface of the water, as if two of the same poles of a magnet and naturally repellent. The startling absence of wind, adding to the heat of that day, did nothing to move the liquid either.

A hundred, no, a thousand stones raked in familiar, concentric patterns, parallel to few and perpendicular to none. Shades of sun-bleached grey neither shone nor sparkled, but still blinding in a way that didn't hurt the eyes. Circles and swirls, precise and exact, carefully checked every morning so that no stone was out of its place.

Two trees reaching for the sky, unnervingly still, each leaf glistening with dew from the cold morning, albeit some were bone dry. Normally many different greens, now, in the blistering sun, small differences in the palest of shades.

She sat, cross legged, arms in the air, palms outstretched and holding two perfectly round spheres, one in each hand. Each breath focused, the exact same length in time and space. Finding her inner peace, trying to bring back her vision from her dreams more clearly as to find their mortal enemy at Fu's instruction...

Crash!

... except she was constantly distracted by her partner.

"Ugh! Plagg, get back here!"

Ignore him.

"Seriously, you're going to break something again!"

Ignore him. Find your inner peace.

"PLAGG!"

"PLAGG, BEHAVE BEFORE I LOCK YOU UP IN A CAGE WITHOUT YOUR CHEESE!" Marinette hollered, her tone absolutely furious. "I am TRYING to complete a VERY IMPORTANT TASK and you are DISTRACTING ME, so I suggest you AND your holder PIPE DOWN!"

Adrien froze in his place 6.82 metres behind her, wincing at her voice. "S-sorry, mi-"

"SHUT UP!"

His mouth shut closed. After all, Marinette, while sweet and clumsy when it came to her regular life, was strict, focused and downright terrifying when it came to their duty. And while he was indeed completely and totally in love with her, he knew not to get on her bad side.

Plagg knew this as well, he was the same way with Tikki. While the Ladybug kwami's patience was immeasurable, it often came short when it came to her annoying counterpart.

Adrien backed away silently- well, he would've been silent if he hadn't accidentally walked into a column while he stared at the beauty before him instead of watching where he was going.

...Whoops.

Marinette twitched before straightening her back and standing. "I think it would do us all good if we had a sparring session, wouldn't you say Adrien?"

He caught the dangerous tone in her voice and winced. "Y-yes, milady." Oh boy, he was in for it.

Adrien hurt all over. That girl was ruthless when she was angry. Plagg was snickering about five minutes into her total thrashing of the blonde boy until Marinette demanded they transform to continue sparring.

It didn't help that Fu was entirely on her side.

And now he was dehydrated, sweating bullets, laying down on the bamboo mat in his room in the dojo and utterly exhausted while Marinette meditated.

What did Fu always tell him to do when he was exhausted? Ah, yes, reflect.

So far, he'd already reflected on his life, his father being the villain they were trying to fight, the irony of it all, his crippling insecurity (nearly all resulting in an even stronger resolve to become better than what others expected of him, including himself), so...

Marinette.

Marinette truly was an enigma when they met six months ago. Secretive, untrusting and fierce, the French-Chinese girl had taken well over half the time they'd known each other to warm up to him. But, in that time, she knew she had to trust him if they were to be partners, so she trusted him with her life if need be while deciding to trust him with her friendship. Every time they fought against another evil akuma, she transformed from that secretive and untrusting girl into one he admired for her strength, agility, precision and grace. While in costume, she was clever, witty, teasing even. It was as if she opened up while masked by those spots.

He had fallen for her after one battle, of that he was sure. But he wasn't truly in love with her until she truly opened up to him.

Over the course of their friendship, somewhere along the way, she decided to share with him her story. Why Fu chose her, a baker's daughter with nothing to fight for, to be the powerful Ladybug. He always knew he was fighting for his mother, for his family, but she?

When she was presented with the miraculous, with Tikki, she had been confused. Scared. So very scared that she wasn't the one, that she would mess it all up. She had begged Fu to take the earrings back, find someone better, and that was why he had pushed them into her hands with more finality. Because she cared. She cared, because she knew that if she made a mistake, thousands would be in danger.

She didn't dare use her miraculous until one day. The day when Hawkmoth found her and decided to strike.

He had set an akuma, a loyal minion on her home, her life. Setting it alight. It burned, fire and smoke reaching the sky, and had trapped her parents inside. Tom and Sabine Dupain-Cheng died that day because Marinette had been too scared to save them.

She vowed never to bestow that pain she felt, that guilt and sorrow and horror and hate onto any child, no matter her inadequacy. She vowed to put aside her fears and concerns because she knew what they brought, and they brought destruction. But above all, she vowed to bring down Hawkmoth and everything he stood for in the name of her parents.

That was when she arrived at Fu's dojo. Three months before she met him. Over the course of those three months, she trained, and she fought, and she rose up from the ashes of her home and graves of her parents, proving she was strong enough. She could do it.

That was when he really loved her. For all her flaws and all her insecurities and all her fear, she rose and she gave hope to all. And while she may not love him the way he loved her, he vowed to keep her safe and to love her not matter what.

He believed in her. He believed in her. He believed in her. It was in his every movement, every word. It was in his eyes and smile. He believed in her, and he knew she could do it. She could save them all, she could save him. She could save the world.

"Adrien?"

She was also in his doorway, adorably biting her lip and looking the slightest bit anxious.

A smile spread across his face just by seeing her as he sat up. "Yeah?"

She shuffled a little bit, cheeks flushing in the cutest way. "I'm... I'm sorry. I'm just so stressed, what if I can't do it? What if I'm not the one everyone expects me to be?" Her eyes of heavenly blue cast downward, and he wouldn't have any of it.

"Mar?"

"Hm?"

"C'me 'ere." He patted the space beside him. The blunette chewed her lip again and moved to sit beside him. Without hesitation he pulled her into his arms, wrapping his arms around her small frame and resting his chin on her head, tucking her into his chest.

She froze for one second before returning the gesture, slipping her tin arms around him.

"Marinette, I get that you're scared. I am too. But, you know what makes me forget those fears?" He felt her shake her head, and pulled back to look into her eyes imploringly. "You. I know you've always got my back, and I've always got yours. We're two parts of the best team in existence, we give each other strength and we balance each other out. You and me, we're yin and yang, right?  You push, I pull, we keep everything right. Okay? I'm here for you, just like I know you're here for me. And if you feel like the world is against you and you should just give up, remember that I believe in you. I always will believe in the fiery girl who inspires me to be better."

She gaped at him for a moment. "B-but what if I'm not all you think I am?"

He scoffed. "What, are you calling yourself weak?" At her very slight nod, he grinned. "Does that mean I could beat you in a fight?"

Her eyes narrowed. "No way in hell, alley cat."

"So... you're not weak?"

"I'm strong enough to beat you!"

"Is that a challenge milady?"

"If you don't shut up, it will be!"

"See? You are all I think you are because I think you're you, and if you tell me your name isn't Marinette Dupain-Cheng aka Ladybug, that's when I'll stop believing in you."

She smiled and leaned up to kiss his cheek. "Thanks, kitty. I needed that." She giggled at his adorkable awe-struck expression, mouth open slightly and cheeks almost as red as her suit. "Come on, Master Fu's given us a small break. Might as well put good use to it, huh?"

He snapped out of his reverie. "Oh, yeah! Break time, don't wanna miss out on that, ha ha! What amazing possibilities await us for an hour of absolutely no responsibilities and free ti-" He broke off his rambling abruptly when Marinette leaned forward and pressed a finger against his lips.

"I might give you a surprise. But you'll have to catch me to see what it is." With a wink and a poke in his nose, she was up and running.

Adrien sat dazed for a full five seconds before breaking out into a grin and running after her.

He would chase her to the end of his days if he had to, if only to show her that she would always have him there with her.

Yin and yang indeed. One without the other would be preposterous. They belonged together in every sense of the phrase. He would always be there for her, and she for him.

He wouldn't have it any other way.

I need fluff in my life so here we go, hope you liked it!!
