Horror, Glory_feeling 2
Hello out there!!! BOO! Did I startle you? 😱
Sorry, as your Interview Moderator, I'm going to let my fellow colleague take my place here. I was one of the winners of the Horror genre last year. And yes, it was my first try at Horror, so I hope I did a good job in bringing the haunts in the story!
I just love my 'doll face' cover also don't you? Oh, and Piper is innocent as she can be, I'll let you know if you are not related to her deadbeat father she won't harm you.😏
So, Raven, Anna, Nab could you take over for a minute?
R.A.N.: Sure thing, Pia!!
GLO: Thanks ladies.
R.A.N.: So, could you tell us a little bit about yourself?
GLO: Hi I'm Pia, but you can call me Glori here on Wattpad. I had brain cancer as a child, so yes I forget things, am slow and as some say a weird girl. LOL! But all those put downs didn't stop me from continuing on with life. And as a writer, I use writing as a tool to share my stories! In fact, Piper is a story that started out from a doll display in a hospital during my childhood.
R.A.N.: What do you do when you are not writing?
GLO: I listen to music, which is my first love. I feel music gives us inspiration in whatever we do in life. I also dance freestyle. I used to sing and dance in front of an audience, but have felt negative about it when someone looks at me in a weird manner. I could write a story about that one day as well.
R.A.N.: Oh, we're sorry to hear that Pia. you can always feel free to dance for us.
GLO: Thank you.
R.A.N.: No problem, dear. Now, can you please tell us what is the inspiration behind your book?
GLO: Sure. Piper is based upon numerous things that happened to me, scary movies I've watched, and the title "Piper" itself is based on the children's short story 'The Pied Piper".
First of all, my parents used to buy me dolls of all shapes and sizes when I was young. One day I was playing with one of my dolls I named Tabby (Tabitha happens to be the name of one of my secondary characters in my horror/paranormal story). In addition to this, when I was hospitalized as a child, my aunts used to wheel me around the children's ward when I got cranky. There was a doll display that they used to take me too and at the very end, there was one that I remember that was from Africa. Due to what happened to me at that time, I couldn't speak to protest that the odd figurine gave me nightmares. How I still remember that horrific moment is still beyond me.
So in 2020, I decided to start writing about a doll that harbors an evil spirit. And that's how Piper evolved. Like her movie cousins "Chucky" and "Annabelle", Piper is not one you would want to mess around with. But don't worry she's only a figure of my horrific imagination. I'm also attracted to the life of Pirates ... swashbuckler style like Blackbeard ... so her father, Captain Callis was born!
R.A.N.: How did you choose the genre you write in?
GLO: I'm a versatile writer, so I write in many genres when I feel like it. I'm always willing to take that challenge if I can finish the story all the way through. Sometimes it takes me a while, but I love to say the words, "The End" for I have accomplished something big. I want to say the chaos of 2020 twisted my mind a bit for the Pandemic can do that to you, but truth is I just took a stab at the Horror/Paranormal genre.
R.A.N.: Is there any particular book or author that influenced you in any way either as a child or adult?
GLO: I don't really know where to start as I had numerous favorites. I probably will start with the children's author, Dr. Seuss. As he taught me the rhyming scheme, I learned how to write poetry in grade school.
Later on in life, I explored more genres. One of my favorites is "The Outsiders" by S.E. Hinton. Another favorite of mine are the "Anne of Green Gables" series by Lucy Maud Montgomery. For darker versions, Stephen King and RL Stine comes to mind.
R.A.N.: Do you have any advice for aspiring authors/writers?
GLO: First, love your story! I can tell you that there are many Wattpad stories that are floating around the community that are either discontinued or deleted. No matter what people tell you, please continue to write. There will be errors along the way, and that is perfectly fine. But that isn't an excuse to say "I hate this story". You can always revise, and rewrite the plot. That's what I'm doing with my old romance series. It's such a shame to put such great work to waste.
Write Everyday! I believe everyone has their own writing styles. Some write in the morning, while others do it at night. And others just write when they have time. Try not to compare yourself to the next person. Just do what you have to do, and in time you'll get to type the last words: The End.
Learn from your mistakes. To me, continuous mistakes means someone is not paying attention. Here, on Wattpad, your stories don't have to be perfect. That's why you can write your drafts in this site. Please, don't compare yourself to others because there will be a time that you will shine too!
R.A.N.: Those are wise words to remember. Thank you for that response, Pia.
GLO: Thank you and I hope every reader can follow this.
That was the marvelous interview with our Interview Moderator, @Glory_feeling2 . We wish her the best in her future writing endeavors!
