Welcome to our clubhouse, Sugar and Spice,
Sugar and Spice: Thank you my dears.
Please make yourself comfortable on our comfy couch while we have this nice chat!
(After author sits down)
Millennial Team: Congratulations again on winning in the Millennial Awards last year. We'd like to ask you a few questions about you and your story ᴅᴇᴠɪʟ's ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ɴᴀᴍᴇ! 😀
So let us start, shall we?
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Sugar_and_Spice125: Hi! I'm Sugar_And_Spice125, or just Sugar for short, and I've been writing since I was in 8th grade (not gonna disclose what grade I'm in now due to privacy reasons) and I love writing urban fantasy stories and sometimes a action packed stories as well! I'm a proud African American female author and I'm happy to say that I won't stop writing anytime soon.
MT: We are happy to hear that.
Next question, so what inspired you to write this story?
S&S: What inspired me to write ᴅᴇᴠɪʟ's ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ɴᴀᴍᴇ was actually the original 101 Dalmatians movie itself. Since I was little it always fascinated me how they depicted Cruella in the movie, and really how they depicted all villains in movies. They made her out to be this crazy fashion designer who was obsessed with fur. For the book, I wanted to make it completely different than the movie, not even mention it at all. This isn't meant to be a fanfic about Cruella, more like a backstory. If that makes sense.
MT: We can understand. And it is only right that a villain in the story has a voice too!
So, what was your hardest scene to write (if any) ? If there wasn't one, what was your favorite and why?
S&S: The hardest scene to write has to be all the fight scenes in the tournament. To be honest, I didn't know how hard it was to write a fight scene until I had to write many for this book. Especially since the component of magic kind of makes it a little harder to write, LOL.
MT: Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
S&S: My advice would be to go beyond the expectations. I have this anime that I watch called "Black Clover" and one of the characters in that show's favorite line to say is "surpass your limits" and that really resonates with me as I continue to write my books today. If it's one things writers should know it's that people are gonna try and set limits for you, and it's your job to surpass those limits and show them that their wrong.
MT: That's great advice! We love that line "Go beyond the expectations" as 'the sky is beyond the limit'. Write whatever comes to mind as once it's down on paper/ typed on computer, there's no backing out!
And as we conclude this short interview, is there anything you'd like to say to your readers and fans?
S&S: One thing I would like to say to my readers is THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Like ya'll stuck with me through all the grammar mistakes and weird chapters and I can't thank you enough. Some of you are even reading ᴡᴇʀᴇᴏʟᴏɢʏ now! Which is another reason why I love you readers so much. Like I didn't think it would get so many readers at first, but now DeVil's in the Name is at 2.85K reads and it's still going! I wanna shout out @nadirahbrown for being such a huge help when it came to ᴅᴇᴠɪʟ's ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ɴᴀᴍᴇ, all your comments and reactions to scenes in the book really made my days. I also wanna shout out @ClaraYami for being such a supportive friend through out my ᴅᴇᴠɪʟ's ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ɴᴀᴍᴇ journey and also taking the time to edit my next book ᴀ sᴇᴀ ᴏғ ʙʟᴏᴏᴅʏ ʜᴇᴀʀᴛs (which I'm sure she's tired of me and my silly grammar mistakes lol). Lastly, I wanna shout out to @Amit96_Singh who pointed out all the grammar mistakes in ᴅᴇᴠɪʟ's ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ɴᴀᴍᴇ, which really helped me, and called me out when I used 'he' instead of 'she' or vice versa at times in the book. Honestly, if it weren't for these three I would've deleted the book a long time ago, so thank you so much!
MT: And thank you for sharing your thoughts with us!
S&S:: It was my pleasure.
That was the marvelous interview with @Sugar_And_Spice125 . We wish her the best in her future writing endeavors!
