Chapter 16
Getting ready for a party was a lot harder than it looked.
Misha I guess realized that I may not have known that so when I woke up to people banging on my door at 11 a.m. I was surprised to find that it was her.
"Um, goodmorning." I mumbled confusedly. Chris was there too but he just shrugged his shoulders apologetically and went back to his room, probably to sleep.
Misha had a bunch of bags and bins with her.
"Why aren't you up yet?"
"Because I was tired?"
"There's no time to be tired! We have work to do!" She sounded so excited
"For what?"
"The party!"
"The party that starts at 10?"
"Yes!"
"Are you serious?"
"Well that and we should just hang out."
"Alright. Let's do that first and then get ready." I laughed
"Okay."
So Misha and I, who I now realized actual name wasn't Misha it was Madeline she just likes to be called Misha for some reason, hung out all day.
We bothered Chris, hung out with Kenny and the twins, I explained to her why I didn't want to hang out with Alex, we watched movies, ordered pizza. It was a lot of fun.
But when five o'clock rolled around Misha was all business.
"Alright, so this is the dress I'm wearing." She held up a light pink, slightly high-low dress with thick gold sleeves that didn't go over her shoulders. "With these." She held up a pair of gold flats.
"Now we need to find a dress for you." She laid out a bunch of her own dresses along with the few that I had and I picked the one that I wanted.
"Good choice. Makeup and hair first though."
"Misha, I can do my own hair and makeup."
"I don't care, I want to do it. You can trust me and if you want you can do mine."
"Fine." She set to work on my hair and it took at least two hours for her to perfect it while I sat there bored out of my mind.
It did look amazing though. She curled it to perfection so it looked natural. Next she set to work on my makeup and it looked amazing. I usually don't put a lot on, but she made me look just, wow.
"Um you can do your own makeup and hair because I'm definitely not as good as you."
She laughed, "So you like it?"
"I love it!"
"Good." While she set to work on her own hair and makeup I slipped into the dress I picked out. It was a bright blueish-teal and there was straps that crossed to a small triangle across my chest. It went down a little below my mid thigh and I put on black lacey flats before pairing it with a black over the shoulder purse.
Just as Misha was finishing getting dressed there was a knock on my door.
"Just a minute!" I called. I looked over at Misha to make sure she was dressed then hurried over to the door which I had locked because I lived with a bunch of intrusive boys.
"Hey. Wow Abby, you look really good." Chris said
I blushed but tried to hide it. "Thanks. You look nice too." It was true. He was only wearing dark wash jeans and a blue polo, but wow did he look good.
He cleared his throat. "Um well, we're going to be leaving soon."
"Alright." I said with a small smile
"See you down stairs." He turned and left
"Well that was pathetic." Misha said from behind me.
"Shut up."
~°~°~°~°~°~
Misha, Chris, Kenny and I all rode in a car together. Alex and John rode by themselves with Isaac considering Alex and I still weren't on speaking terms.
When we arrived at the party it was just getting started though there was still a lot of people there. I looked at Chris, still very unsure about everything.
He gave me an encouraging smile, "You'll be fine. Just stick with me, I won't drink too much so we can hang out." I smiled back at him because that was so incredibly thoughtful and sweet.
When we went inside the house Tommy and Harry greeted us. Misha went off with Harry but Tommy asked if we wanted any drinks.
"No thanks." I said over the loud music.
"Suit yourself, if you change your mind they're in the kitchen." He motioned to his left and then was dissolved back into the party.
"Want to dance?" Chris asked me
"Sure." He led me into the crowd and I was thankful I remembered to take a Xanax.
Of course as soon as we got to the dance floor, aka the living room, a slower song came on and instead of dancing weirdly like the rest of the drunk people Chris put his hands on my waist.
"What are you doing?"
"Dancing." He said in a "duh" tone. I smiled and wrapped my arms around his neck.
Throughout the night I danced with Chris, Kenny, John, and Misha. What made me uncomfortable though was when my friends started to seem drunk. Chris only had a couple drinks but you could tell he was getting rather tipsy.
"I'm going to go get some fresh air." I yelled over the music to him. He only yelled back something incoherent so I just shrugged and made my way outside.
People were making out on the porch so I decided my best bet was to sit on the bed of Tommy's truck. It had a cover on it and I made sure the black wouldn't rub off before I hopped up and made myself comfy. It was quieter out here and the cool breeze against my bare legs felt nice and refreshing.
"Hey." I jumped a little as Isaac came up behind me.
"Hey." I said
"Mind if I join you?" As a response I moved over and patted the empty space next to me.
"Be my guest." He hopped up onto the bed of the truck next to me.
"Why aren't you inside?"
"I don't know. I'm not much of a party person I guess." I said with a shrug. "What about you?"
"I'm not much of a party person either." He chuckled
"Well then I guess we can be party poopers together."
"Fine by me." I laughed. I've only seen Isaac a couple times since him and Alex's argument but I guess they're better now.
"Are you okay?" The sudden question interrupted my thoughts.
"I'm fine. Why do you ask?"
"Well I know you and Alex got into it awhile ago and you just seem down." He offered me a small smile.
"Yeah, I have been kind of down lately."
"Want to talk about it?"
"Not really."
"Come on, Abby, you can't hide anything from me."
"I'm not hiding anything." I said mysteriously
"I see. So you're not hiding anything at all?"
"Nope." I tried to straight face him but we both ended up laughing.
"Seriously though Abby, you got me worried."
"I'm fine, it's just it's all so weird."
"What is?"
"Sitting here in the middle of England, living with people I only met at the beginning of summer. Having new friends, a whole new life."
"It is weird. Trust me I know the feeling."
"You do?"
"Well being in England yeah. I used to live in the U.S."
"Really?" I was honestly shocked
"Yeah. In Maine."
"That's so cool."
"My dad got a job transfer so we all moved here, him, my mom, my brothers, and I. I was only about five at the time so I could pretty much go up to any other five year old and ask them to be my friend and they would automatically say yes but it was still a completely new place. It was scary."
"Wow."
"So do you miss your parents?"
"What?"
"Well I mean, you moved here without them so do you miss them?"
"Yeah, more than you know."
"Why aren't they here with you?"
"They died."
"Oh I'm so sorry Abby, I didn't know."
"It's fine, of course you didn't know." I offered him a small smile. "I don't really like to talk about it. How old is your brother?"
It seemed my attempt to change the subject worked because he didn't push any further.
"He's twenty-two. He goes to college with Drew. And then I have a little brother who is friends with the twins, Justin."
"That's awesome. Are they good friends?"
"Like best friends."
"Awesome. I hope I get to meet them."
"Me too." He looked back at the couple still making out on the porch. "Do you want to take a walk with me? I mean, you know, since we're both not party people and we're just kind of sitting here. I can take you home afterwards." He sounded really nervous for some reason.
I thought about it for a second. "Sure, just let me go tell Chris because he was kind of looking after me."
"Alright cool, I'll go with you." He sounded really relieved, like he expected me to say no.
We went into the party and it was easy to find Chris because he wasn't drunk like a lot of other people were.
"Hey, are you okay?"
"Yeah, um Isaac and I are going to go for a walk. He'll take me home afterwards so don't worry about me." He was definitely on the verge of being completely drunk so he stumbled a little after shaking his head.
"Okay." He gave Isaac a pointed look. "Watch out for her."
"Will do." He saluted Chris before grabbing my hand and leading me outside.
We walked really fast for about a block and a half until we slowed to a normal pace.
"So I have something to tell you." Isaac told me
"What is it?"
"It's about Alex." The smile fell off of my face.
"If you're going to defend him then I would rather you not."
"Well he mentioned me while you guys were arguing right? But he wouldn't explain why. I want to."
"Alright." I sighed. Issac took a deep breath before he started telling his story.
"It started at the airport. Alex and I were watching the gate, waiting for you but not knowing who you were. Then the most beautiful girl walked out and Alex started making fun of me for staring, but I couldn't stop. I told him that I think this is love at first sight and he said I was crazy. He told me to go talk to her but I couldn't, I knew I would freeze. He said he'd go talk to her then but I stopped him. I told him I call dibs, not in an inappropriate way, just like flirting rights because I knew if Alex started flirting with her I would never get a chance. That girl was you." I stared at Isaac in shock, did he just confess his love for me? I opened my mouth to clarify but he kept talking.
"When I found out that you were the girl that was going to be living with Alex I reminded him that I called dibs. He promised me he wouldn't do anything. A week later he told me he kissed you. I was mad but I knew it was going to happen. He said he would stop. Then a couple days later he told me that he couldn't stop flirting with you and that you guys made out. That's why we were arguing that one day. I told him that he broke a promise that meant a lot to me on top of lying multiple times so we weren't going to be friends for awhile. I told him not to hurt you though, that it was your decision anyway. He called me a couple days later and told me what happened. He said he just did it rationally and wasn't thinking, he just wanted to have me as a friend back. So don't blame him for what happened, he was just being stupid. He honestly didn't want to hurt you."
I open and closed my mouth so many times I lost count, I had no idea what to say. Alex wasn't as mean and heartless as I thought, he just wanted his best friend back. And Isaac loved me? Wow I was naive.
"Don't be pressured or anything, I just figured you should know so you don't hate him forever."
"I don't hate him." I said in a small voice.
Isaac liked me. How could I not have seen it? I'm so clueless. I internally smacked myself.
"So you like me?" That was the first question that I asked. Great going Abby.
He laughed and put his arm across my shoulders. "Yes Abby, I like you."
"A lot?"
"A lot."
Did I like him? I have no clue. He always did seem to intrigue me and draw me in between his quiet demeanor and easygoing attitude, his dark hair and beautiful green eyes that made my knees weak, the way he cared for me when Alex made me upset after I had a panic attack. The more I thought about it, the more the answer became clearer.
"I think I like you too."
He stopped walking and stared at me.
"Really?"
"Really."
"Well that-that's great." He sounded so relieved and happy. He had a huge grin on his face as we started walking again.
"So I know that we just started to get to know each other, but do you think we can give this a try?"
"Give what a try?"
"Maybe go out with me?"
"Like on a date?"
"Yeah kind of, well, if you want to. Just to get to know each other I guess and see if we want to go out again."
"That sounds awesome. When though?"
He thought for a second. "What about now?"
"Now?"
"Yeah. I mean, we're here together, alone. Why not now?"
"But we haven't planned anything." I laughed
"That's okay. Think of it as a spontaneous unexpected date." He seemed to sense my hesitation. "It's up to you."
Why not add some more fun into my life?
"Let's do it." He smirked at me and wrapped his hand around mine before he took off running.
I'm glad I decided to wear flats.
"Where are we going?" I asked laughing
"I have no idea!" He shouted back at me. The streets were so quiet our voices echoed.
We kept running for about four or so blocks when we finally slowed to a stop to catch our breath.
"We probably should've grabbed my car." Isaac wheezed
"I thought this was part of the fun of it."
"You have a point." As far as I could tell we were right outside London and all of the lights were beautiful.
"Come on." Isaac grabbed my hand and started walking into the city.
I had only been in London a few times and none of them were for sight seeing, so this was all new to me.
Isaac led me to a small bakery that I was surprised was still open.
"What do you want?"
"I have no clue."
"I recommend these." He pointed to a large danish-looking sweet.
"Wow. They look great."
"I'll take two." He said to the lady behind the counter. She handed him the sweets and he led me outside.
"Where are we going now?"
"I think I know where." We walked a couple more blocks talking about things before going into a coffee shop and Isaac ordered us each a hot chocolate.
"So are you going to tell me where?"
"Nope." I pouted and stuck out my bottom lip.
"Don't do that."
"Why not?"
"Because you're too adorable."
I blushed a lot as Isaac subtly wrapped his hand around my waist. The chilly night air was starting to set in and I snuggled in close to his side.
"Are you cold?" He motioned to his light jacket.
"No, I'm fine."
"Tell me if you are."
"Okay." He led us out of the city part and more into the rustic part. We walked along a dirt path and all lights were gone so Isaac and I stayed close to each other.
"Oh wow." I gasped as the dirt path and trees opened up into a large lake that was glistening in the moonlight. It was beautiful.
"You like it? I know it's kind of boring but I figured we could just hang out."
"I love it." I corrected and Isaac looked so relieved and happy. He grabbed my hand and we walked to the dock.
We set our food out kind of like a picnic and put our feet in the cool water.
"So how is it?" Isaac asked as I ate the danish thingy.
"It's delicious."
"My mum makes homemade sweets like that all the time."
"Remind me to meet your mom."
"Of course."
We were quiet for a few minutes until Isaac finally spoke up.
"I don't want to sound creepy but I really like you Abby. I think I'm in love with you even though I've only known you for a few weeks."
"I don't think that's creepy at all."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
"Well then. That's awesome." Isaac had a huge smile on his face and I felt my heart melt. He was so adorable and sweet.
"So will you consider going on another date with me?"
"I don't have to consider, of course I will." He leaned in and kissed my cheek, short and sweet. It lingered though and I felt me wanting him to do more, but to take it slow at the same time.
"Thank you." I whispered
"For what?"
"All of this." I motioned dramatically all around us.
He chuckled. "This is nothing."
I felt his hand clasp mine and the butterflies it sent into my stomach.
I really did like Isaac.
