Chapter 12
I woke up in my bed alone the next morning.
I pulled out one of my suitcases and found a pair of black sweatpants that said LOVE PINK down the side in big white block letters. I put on a fresh gray tank top and took my hair out of the pony tail it was in.
I went out into the hallway but I couldn't remember which door was Alex's. A door opened behind me and I turned to see a boy I hadn't met yet.
"Morning."
"Goodmorning."
"So um quick question. You are Abby right?"
I laughed. "Yup."
"Okay good."
"And who are you may I ask?"
"Oh, my apologies, I'm John."
"Nice to meet you John." I shook hands with him. "By the way, would you mind telling me which room Alex's is?"
"That one." He pointed to the second door on the left.
"Thanks."
"No problem."
He went down the hallway and then disappeared. I went and knocked on Alex's door.
"Come in." I heard him groggily say
"Goodmorning!" I said extra cheerfully just to annoy him.
"Get out."
"Not happening. Now I can't throw you in the pool, but I can turn on the lights."
"You will die." I flicked on the lights and he growled, shoving his face into a pillow.
His room was a lot like mine, but more decorated. There was trophies on one wall, posters of people on the other. A flat screen TV with gaming systems hooked up to it, and two beanbag chairs.
"I like your room."
"Great. Now get out."
"This is payback."
"Do it in another hour."
"But I don't know how to get to the kitchen."
"Just wander around until you find someone. Then ask them."
"I hope you know I'm coming back in an hour with a bucket of water. That's your only warning."
He replied with a groan and I flipped off the lights.
Out in the hallway I looked around to find someone, anyone, who could help me.
I decided to just start walking the way I saw John headed.
I came across a place that looked semi-familiar and realized that it was the hallway that Kenny's gym is in.
I found what looked like to be the right door and knocked. Loud music was blasting through the walls so I opened the door only an slight crack and peered inside.
It was definitely the weight room and Kenny was definitely working out shirtless. I watched as his back muscles rippled when he would lift the weight and set it down.
Wow I'm such a creeper.
I opened the door a little wider and knocked on the door louder.
Kenny put down the weight and turned around to look at me.
"What do you want?"
"Well goodmorning to you too."
"Morning. Now what?"
"I seem to be lost."
"Get Alex."
"He's sleeping."
"Then go wander around until you find someone."
"That's what he told me to do, and I found you."
"Well go look for someone else." He turned around and continued lifting the weights.
"Well fine then." I closed the door and continued walking.
After awhile I bumped into someone who was considerably smaller then me and they fell back on their butt.
"What was that for?" The small person asked incredulously. I looked down and saw a younger boy staring up at me. He had long dark blonde curly hair and hazel eyes.
"Sorry." I mumbled and reached down my hand and hoisted the boy up. "I don't think we've met yet."
"Jeremiah."
"Abby." We shook hands, "Hey is there any way you can show me to the kitchen? I still don't know my way around yet."
"Sure." He led me through a couple of different rooms yet again and finally I was in the kitchen.
"Goodmorning Abby." Lianne was standing behind the stove cooking something that smelled absolutely amazing.
"Goodmorning Lianne. Thanks Jeremiah."
"No problem." He winked at me and then left the room.
Lianne rolled her eyes. "I hope that boy doesn't get to be as obnoxious as Elijah."
"I don't think I've met him yet."
"So you probably haven't met Josiah either. They go everywhere together. Actually come to think of it, they're out with their friends."
"Are they the twins?"
"Yes." Lianne offered me a bowl of fruit. "Eat lightly my dear, feeling better?"
"A lot, thanks."
"Anytime honey."
I grabbed an apple and an ice cold glass of water before making my way to the elevator. I knew where that was from the kitchen.
I pressed the number 2 and then found myself facing the hallway where the bedrooms were.
Second door to the left.
I knocked once and then opened it. The lights were already on but no one was in there. Alex must be in the bathroom or something. I sat down on the edge of his bed and to confirm my suspicions I heard a flush come from the bathroom.
"Alex I'm in your room." I shouted just to make sure.
"ARGH!!" I screamed bloody murder and jumped clear out if my skin. I fell onto the floor and clutched my chest, I forgot to take my Xanax pill.
This a great time to remenber that.
I took a few deep breaths to keep from hyperventilating. Alex leaned over the bed and looked at me, the smile immediately dropped from his face.
"What's wrong?" He looked concerned. I just put my hand up to tell him to give me a second.
One thing about Xanax, don't miss a dosage and get the living crap scared out of you.
I heard the bathroom door open but didn't look to see who it was.
"Do you need me to get someone?" Alex asked
"N-no. I-I'm fine." I took another shaky couple of breaths and gripped the bed. My knuckles turned white.
"What happened?" Isaac asked from behind me
"Did you hit your head or something?" Alex added
"No. H-help me to m-my r-room."
Alex put his hand around my waist and led me to my room.
My hands were still shaking as I opened the drawer to my nightstand and pulled out the box of pills. I popped one in my mouth and took a sip of my water bottle that was sitting on top of the nightstand.
I gingerly sat down on the edge of my bed, my nerves starting to calm down a little. Alex and Isaac were staring at me, looking very confused and also concerned.
"What the bloody hell was that?" Alex demanded
"I'm fine." I really didn't want to get into this at the moment.
"Don't feed me that rubbish Abby. What was that." I couldn't tell if he was actually mad.
"Alex I'm fine, please don't ask." I tried to hide my shaking hands but it didn't seem to work.
"Don't ask?! Abby you just scared me half to death! I thought I hurt you!"
"Alex please." I couldn't explain myself right now to him.
"I thought we were friends." He pushed past Isaac and stormed out the door.
I put my head in my hands. The bed moved next to me and an arm wrapped around my shoulders. I looked up to see Isaac.
"I'm not going to ask what that was, because it's obvious you're still shaken up. I just want to let you know I'm here for you. So is Alex, he's just, well he just gets a little over protective sometimes. He cares for you, and once his temper calms down he'll be okay. Just give him some time."
"Thanks."
"Anytime Abby, I'll be in his room if you want to talk about what just happened, or anything really. I would give it a few minutes though." He rubbed my back a couple more times before getting up and walking out the door.
I laid back on my bed and waited for my nerves to fully calm down.
About half an hour later I thought I felt the effects of the medicine finally kicking in. I decided I should go talk to Alex and tell him about my anxiety disorder.
I gingerly knocked on his door.
"If you're Abby go away." I heard muttering and a lot thud. "Please." He added from what sounded like gritted teeth.
A minute later after more shuffling and grunting Isaac opened the door and let me in.
Alex was sitting in a beanbag chair with headphones on, playing some sort of shooting game.
"Alex let me explain." He ignored me. Isaac rolled his eyes and turned the TV off.
"What the hell Isaac?"
"Talk to her."
"Talk to who?" Who does he think he is?
"You know what Alex, I came in here to explain myself to you, which in perspective I don't have to do. So you better straighten up because I honestly don't know why you're so mad at me."
"You don't know why I'm so mad at you? Abby you just scared the bloody hell out of me! I tried to make sure you were alright but you brushed me off! Then out of the blew you just had to take some bloody pills! Do you know how bad that looks? The first thought that came to mind was 'is she doing drugs?!' And then you don't even have the decency to tell me what was going on! Just an 'I'm fine.'"
"Well I'm sorry. It's hard enough that I almost had a full blown panic attack without you playing twenty questions with me. It's hard enough to talk about the disorder let alone right after something like that!" My voice steadily rose until I was almost shouting, maybe the Xanax hadn't taken full effect yet. "And I thought we were friends too! But if we were friends you would've acted differently then completely freaking out on me and then barging out of the room!" I took a deep breath and fought the urge to run out of the room myself. I had to stand my ground.
Alex and I hadn't lost eye contact throughout my whole rant. He had been glaring at me until I was about halfway through. Now he just stared, open-mouthed, like I was some sort of freak. He finally blinked a few times and closed his mouth. He reopened it and asked quietly, "That was a panic attack?"
"Yes it was a panic attack."
"And those weren't drugs?"
"No they weren't drugs!" How could he even think that of me?
"Then what was it."
"Alright listen. You better not," I looked back and forth between Alex and Isaac, "either if you, tell anyone this. Since I was little I had a severe form of Anxiety, alright? The last panic attack I had was a bad one so the doctor prescribed me some medication. I accidently missed the dosage this morning and when you scared me out of my wits it almost sent me into a full-fledged panic attack. It wouldn't have happened if I would've taken the medicine, so don't feel bad. You didn't know." I looked between the two of them. They were just staring at me, thoughtful expressions on their faces. I hadn't gone into detail because I didn't feel like explaining practically my entire life to them.
For a long time none of us moved, no one spoke. Then all of a sudden Alex stood up and walked over to me.
He wrapped his arms around me and I melted into him. "I'm so sorry." He said quietly
"It's okay."
"No it's not, I was a complete arse to you and I didn't even know the whole story, I'm sorry."
I didn't get a chance to reply because another set of arms wrapped around us to where I was incased on both sides.
I pushed the weight in my chest aside and took a deep breath. Standing here in the arms of two very attractive english guys wasn't so bad.
Alex shifted his head to where he was looking at Isaac.
"What are you doing?"
"I thought this was a group hug."
"No, it's not."
"Well it is now."
"It is not." Alex shoved Isaac. I giggled into Alex's shirt.
Isaac recovered quickly and shoved Alex back. They got into a shoving match which quickly escalated into a punching match while I stood idly by laughing.
Isaac got a good punch in on Alex's ribs and he let out a grunt, hitting him back in the jaw.
"Oh you'll pay for that one." Isaac mumbled.
They continued wrestling on the floor before I cleared my throat and they both looked up at me.
"Are you two done yet?" I asked laughing
"No, not yet." Alex kicked Isaac in the chest.
"Now we're done. I wasn't about to let you beat me in front of a hot girl." I felt my cheeks flush red and I looked away.
"Awh you made her blush." Isaac cooed. I blushed even harder. "The thing is though, I'm not going to let you beat me in front of a hot girl either." He punched Alex in the jaw and jumped up. Before Alex could catch him he ran behind me.
"What are you doing?" I giggled
"Don't let him get me!"
"I'm not going to be your body gaurd."
"That's not fair, I can't hit her, she's a girl." Alex pouted. I looked at him incredulously, but I was glad for the excuse to not get hit.
"Exactly!" Isaac yelled
"Though I did hit Isaac multiple times so..." Alex launched himself at me and I let out a squeal as he wrapped his arms around me and threw me over his shoulder.
He dropped me on the bed and sat on my stomach, pinning my arms to the bed.
"So here we are again."
"Get off." I gasped, he was making it really hard to breath.
"Okay." He flopped to the side and I sucked in a breath, oh the joy of breathing.
I screamed and started thrashing around as he jammed his fingers into my sides and tickled me.
"Stop! I-I c-can't breath!" Tears were streaming down my face as I laughed so hard my chest hurt.
"I want a try!" Isaac jumped on the bed and joined Alex in torturing me.
The door opened and we all froze and looked at who it was.
"Umm... I'll just come back later." Kenny said eyeing us wearily. He went to shut the door and I yelled,
"Wait! Kenny save me!" He opened up the door again and smirked at me.
"No can do sweatheart, you're on your own." He quickly closed the door and the torture continued.
~°~°~°~°~°~
Half an hour and millions of tickles later Isaac, Alex, and I laid sprawled across Alex's bed.
"We should do something." I said once I got my breath back and the aching in my sides subsided.
"Like what?" Isaac asked
"I don't know, I've only been in England for like two days now."
"There really isn't much stuff to do."
"You guys are no fun."
A buzz went off and Isaac sighed. He got up and grabbed his phone off Alex's bedside table.
"I have to go mate. Mum's making dinner."
"Alright see you later."
"Bye Abby."
"Bye Isaac."
"We should do this again sometime." Isaac smirked and left.
"Or not!" I yelled after him. I heard him laughing down the hallway.
"So do you have any brothers and sisters?" Alex asked suddenly
"Nope." I said popping the "p."
"Well I have nine of them."
"So I've heard, tell me about them."
"All of them?"
"Yeah, if I'm going to be living here I should know all about them. I mean I haven't even met all the ones that live here currently."
"Okay well first there's Drew, he's twenty-two."
I laughed. "That rhymed."
He rolled his eyes, "Shut up."
I giggled and he continued. "He's in his second year of college, and wants to be a graphic designer. His girlfriend's name is Hannah, she's pretty nice."
"Okay, so who's next?"
"Matthew. He's twenty and goes to the same college as Drew and Hannah. He's in his first year and wants to be a doctor. Him and John were really close, so he was pretty upset when Matthew left."
"So John is next?"
"Yup. John is nineteen and is starting college in the fall. He's probably one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Him and his girlfriend Hayden have been dating for two years and plan on getting married when they're both twenty-one."
"Wow." That's amazing how in love people can be. I mean to love someone so much you just know you're going to get married? I want to love someone like that one day.
"Okay so Kenny, right?"
"Yeah. Kenny is, well Kenny. He's seventeen and almost everything he says is sarcastic. He's a complete arse sometimes but he's also got a huge soft side. So don't really take anything he might say that's rude or mean to heart, because he'll make it really clear if he's being serious or not. He also plays football and is actually really good at it."
"Okee-dokee."
"Next is Chris." Alex looked really weary.
"What's up with him?"
"Well Chris he, he's troubled. It's really not my story to tell but he's been troubled ever since my mom died." Alex got a faraway look in his eyes and I couldn't help but wonder what was going on in his head and what was going on with Chris. I think I had a pretty good idea already though.
"How old is he?"
"He'll be sixteen in November."
"Are you close with him?"
"I'm probably closest to Chris out of all my brothers."
"So what about you?"
"Me?"
"Yeah, I don't know anything about you."
"What do you want to know? Everything basic is probably out in the open. I'm sixteen, I like rugby, and I like the color blue."
"Alright, alright. Who's next?"
"Well next is you."
"Me?"
"You're sixteen right?"
"Almost. My birthday is in July."
"And your part of this family aren't you?" I was shocked that he had said something like that. Was I?
"I don't know, am I?"
"Of course you are."
"Oh. Well, thanks." My cheeks flushed red
"Well go on, you're next."
I sighed. "What do you want to know?"
"Just start naming things off." He put his arms behind his head and looked at me expectantly.
"Well like I said I'll be sixteen in July, my favorite color is purple, I love penguins, my favorite number is 72, I have a bunch of hobbies that I'm not naming off, I used to live in Greenville, North Carolina, and I moved to England to live with a bunch of people I've never met before. Some of them are rude, crazy, funny, and some are really sweet and nice."
"Wow."
"You sound surprised."
"I thought you'd be more of a panda person."
I laughed so hard it made my ribs hurt again.
"Well I guess I'm a panda person too, but mostly penguins."
"Duley noted."
"So who's next?"
"Well Elijah and Josiah, or Eli and Josey."
"The twins?"
"Yup. You probably won't see them for awhile because they're on some vacation with a bunch of their friends."
"Oh, well I guess that explains it then."
"Yeah. You'll rarely ever see them separated though they're completely polar opposites. Eli is egotistical and sarcastic and definitely a player. He's loud and crazy and loves to party. Josey is more quiet and easy going. He's really cool and super talented, he's into art and writing stories and stuff like that. He's also won a bunch of awards for his art and a couple short stories he's written."
"Wow."
"Oh yeah, and they're completely identical."
"Oh great."
"All you have to do is wait for them to say something and it's pretty easy to tell them apart because Eli can't keep his mouth shut for anything. So I wouldn't go telling him any secrets."
"Got it."
"Then there's Jeremiah. He's a cute kid. Sometimes he acts a lot like Eli though. He likes to read and play rugby too, he's actually really good at it for only being eleven. He'll probably be unstoppable once puberty hits him."
"I've never played."
Alex chuckled, "And then there's Gracie. Everyone babys her and looks out for her. I mean she's our only sister, other than you." He smiled and winked at me. "She's completely adorable and loves princesses and the color pink. I honestly feel bad for her though."
"Why?"
"Because she has nine older brothers, how is she ever going to get a boyfriend? We'd probably all tear him apart."
"Poor Gracie." That really does stink.
"Poor boy." Alex and I laughed, then we just kind of stopped and stared at each other. I don't really know why, I just found myself looking into his bright blue eyes.
"You're beautiful Abby." He said rather abruptly.
"What?"
"Ever since I saw you at the airport I've wanted to tell you that." He leaned in and kissed me. I got lost in the world and kissed him back.
I don't know how or why he kissed me after only two days of knowing each other but at this moment I didn't really care.
I pulled away before the kiss escalated too much and breathed deeply.
"Wow." Alex breathed
"What?"
"You're a really good kisser."
This sure has been one crazy day.
Sorry if this chapter feels a little bit rushed, I might come back and change it later.
