CHAPTER ELEVEN

Iris, Ella and Logan walked towards the towering building between other high buildings. Logan had parked his car a few buildings away from the real destination. His reasons being that he doesn't want them to know about his car.

"Why are you following us though?"

Iris inquired Logan who was holding some files. One thing she noticed was that Logan was wearing somewhat formal clothes. A white shirt with black suit, though he was not wearing any tie or bow. But his messy black hair before, were more assembled. She wanted to ask him about it, but she felt that they weren't this close to talk about personal affairs.

"I am not following you. I just happen to go in the same direction as you two."

He replied, giving a half-smile

"If that were the case, why did you not offer us a ride first?"

Ella crossed her arms

"My business of going there is different from yours."

He gave an adequate reply, his tone telling that not to ask further questions

When they entered the building, the first thing they met was a blast of cold air thanks to the built-in air conditioners everywhere.

"Okay, then see you two later on. Good Luck."

Logan spoke, his last comment citing towards Iris. He then starts walking towards the closed elevator where on the side its written in a golden plate, VIP. He brings out a card, swipes it again the scanner and the door opens. He steps in and soon is out of sight.

"Just who is he?"

Iris questioned Ella but when she turned to look at her she found that the girl was already at the long, horizontal counter in front of them. There were many people, male or female, behind the counter. Each wearing an ear piece. There was a separate line for help, customer support, and filing requests.

But where Ella was standing was the part of counter solely for new trainees.

"Hi. How may I help you?"

The woman behind the counter gave a sweet smile. Ella tells Iris to give her the file, which she does. The woman then types something on the computer, as Iris takes in her surroundings.

The environment was happy and jolly. The whole interior was white and bright. There were a lot of rooms, and from the looks of it, they each looked luminous and colourless.

"Here you go, your training room is Room B1218."

Iris takes the slip from her hand, and then follows Ella who takes her to the trainees block.

"Room B1218, wah, are there this many rooms here?"

"No, there are only two major rooms. Yours is B. 1218 is your recruitment number. Although 18 is your real number. 12 is just the group you got assigned to trained with, number."

Ella explained. After walking through the alley, left to the counter, they soon turned left and were in front of a huge door with the letter B on it.

"Here we are...now important things to remember. First at the right will be clothes for you to wear, in which you will train. There are different categories so you can choose anything you like. But remember to choose wisely, because they won't let you change it later on.....trust me, I chose something that didn't work out later and they wouldn't let me change it....anyhow, there will be a shower and changing room next to it, you'll find it easily. Just do whatever they say and don't try to over do and you'll be fine."

"Got it....I actually feel nervous, but I think I'll handle it.."

Iris gave a nervous smile. She took a deep breath and then her expression dulled. Seriousness took over her. She then enters, without taking a glance at Ella who had whispered a small good luck to her.

Inside there was this huge room, with different gym equipment at one side. On her right, there was a rack of clothes just like Ella explained. Without talking to anyone, after showing her slip to the trainer, she went to choose her clothes. Iris had always been the one to be quick with decisions. She chose a black full sleeves short shirt complimenting her thin long arms, exposing her stomach. Along with black tights, that weren't to tight but were perfect for her long legs. After changing, she puts her hair in a pony tail.

When class starts, they all are lined and then paired. Iris gets paired with a girl of striking crimson brick-red hair, which perks her attention. Although the girl's original black hair, could be seen at the roots. The girl doesn't seem much of a talker and rarely talks which helped Iris concentrate on her exercises. Since today was the first day, they were only tasked with simple exercises to stretch which included head stand, crunches, and small rope climbing.

When she was finished, she changed back to her clothes and went outside. Lucy had taken her phone since she suggested it would be better to not take her phone to the centre which Iris agreed with. She will have to buy a separate phone just for The Mercurial. But now she had to wait for Luke, who god knows where he was. She was waiting near the main door, looking at the huge round clock on the wall opposite to her.

At that moment, Logan comes out from the same elevator as earlier along with two other people. One looked around their age while the other looked old. His white and grey hair, wrinkles on his face showed that he must be around 60 or more. He looked like an important man as everyone who passed by him, greeted him.

While talking to that old man, Logan's eyes accidentally fall on Iris who smiles in return but he quickly averts his gaze as if he doesn't know her. Iris gets confused by his behaviour and a bit hurt.

A girl who Iris didn't notice standing next to her spoke,

"Ah, the mystery man. He often comes here, hangs out with the big leagues. All we could manage to find out was his first name Logan. We don't even know his last name....do you know him?"

Iris looks at the girl who is clearly fawning over Logan, surprised at her question she ponders about how to answer it.

"...no..I don't..."

She lied, she realised why Logan ignored her earlier, it's because since he is so famous here that if she were to claim that he knows him then attention would be drawn to her.

"Yeah I figured. You are after all a trashy new recruit from the looks of it."

The girl scoffed.

"Excuse me?"

Iris raised her brow, she did not like the tone of this woman

"I am Penelope. I'm a middle rank helper, nice to meet you."

The girl who introduced herself puts her hand in front of Iris, which she hesitantly shakes and introduces herself back,

"I am Iris and today was my first day as a trainee."

"First day, eh? How would you like to be under my wing? I know a lot of people and I can put in a good word for you as well. So, what do you say?"

Something about this girl, didn't set right with Iris. She was about to reply when Luke comes in.

"Oh, Iris there you are. Let's go."

"Wait, not so fast Mr. Hill."

Penelope stopped Iris, glaring at Luke, who glared back at her

"Well well if it isn't Penelope. I don't even want to say nice to meet you because it isn't nice to meet you."

"Same here. I am only stopping you because I asked this girl here to be under my wing. You can't take her."

"Why do you need her under your wing when you've already got three people?"

"Oh hello! Three people aren't enough."

"Well she didn't agree to your request. I bet you don't even remember her name."

Luke rolled his eyes, Iris was watching these two banter. She glanced to see where Logan was standing before but he wasn't there anymore.

"Ha! Don't think I can't see what you're trying to do. You're planning to have her under your wing."

Penelope narrowed her eyes and crossed her arms

"I don't give a crap about that. Now, if you'll excuse me, we have somewhere to be."

"Wait, she still hasn't replied."

Penelope again stopped them

"Sorry, I am not interested in being under someone's wing. I am fine by being with myself."

Iris then excused herself and Luke out the door

They both start walking towards the secret hideout that Lucy told Iris about earlier

"So, how was your first day?"

Luke inquired

"It was good. Although what does it mean to be under your wing and who was that girl?"

Iris responded with a question

"Well you know how they treat recruits as trash. When you are under someone's protection, you won't get bullied by anyone else. Although your own protectors will treat you like shit. But new trainees are still looking to be under senior's wings, because then they can be assigned to proper teams and have proper jobs. Although you don't have to worry about that because you are already in our team."

Luke grinned while explaining

"I see. And that Penelope?"

"Well...we used to be in the same training program....and let's just say that she is really competitive and jealous of me."

He smirked, thinking about how mad Penelope used to get when he would beat her in any competition

"Oh. Hey, why is Logan that much known?"

Iris still couldn't figure out about Logan.

"Well...he knows a lot of people and has worked for a lot of people. Which is a great achievement considering that it has only been two years since he came." Luke replied

"Two years? You mean he wasn't here before?"

Iris becomes surprised to hear this because she thought Logan was part of The Mercurial from the very start, considering how her father taught him. But then again, her father was his personal trainer, not a trainer assigned by The Mercurial.

"Yeah, I don't really know much about where he was before. He doesn't talk about before that or even his family. We only talk about basic things to be honest. Speaking of which, what about your family?"

Luke quickly changed the subject, not because he didn't want to talk more about Logan but more because he looked like he was excited about something. His expression beamed, yet he looked troubled like he wanted to say something but couldn't.

"What about my family?"

Iris's brows puckered, she didn't really know why Luke suddenly started talking about her family

"You don't talk about your elder sister much."

"Luke, we barely know each other. I only met you yesterday for the first time, ever. And my sister doesn't live with me, she lives with her fiancé in a town an hour away from here."

Iris answered, she was suspicious about why Luke was so curious about her sister for no reason

"I see. Don't be surprised. I love to talk so I'm just making small talk. Speaking of which, I have four elder sisters......"

His voice becomes low at the end

"What's wrong?"

"My sisters are animals. They cannot be called humans....they are literally crazy."

Luke added, shaking at the thought or perhaps a memory of his sisters. His pressure on the word 'crazy' made it seem like he didn't get along with his sisters. Iris chuckles at this.

"Don't laugh. They drive a person insane."

Luke went on to complain about his sisters.

"I am sure they all love you very much and are just having fun with you."

Iris defended his sisters knowing full well at how it feels to have an elder sister

"No one treats someone you love like they do. Anyways, got any plans for tomorrow?"

He sighed, but his mood changed quickly

"Why are you asking? Also don't mind but what's with you taking a sudden interest in me and my family?"

Iris finally questioned him

"Well....urghh...this is hard...I am so bad at keeping secrets....."

Luke muttered, giving a frustrated groan

"Secrets?"

Iris repeated his word

"Never mind. It's nothing. We are almost there. I am sorry for being weird."

Iris wanted to be more persistent, but she lets it go. Still she wondered that what secret Luke was talking about.
