Thanks for the Memories, Even If They Were Shit

I looked at the Director. I've never seen him, well, until now of course. He then stared directly at me and his eyes pierced through me.

"Who are YOU?!" he yelled at me.

"Agent Angel, Sir." Cal quickly said.

"Agent... Angel? You mean that Mercenary?"

Cal stopped dead as York and Wash looked over confused and shocked.

"Yes, Sir." I replied.

"At least she knows respect! Are you here for a mission?"

"No, Sir. I left."

"Left? Explain immediately!"

"There was a fight between me and one of my former comrades and I had no choice but to leave. I met Agent California before the... incident." I choked on the last word.

He glared at me then walked over to Cal.

"I expect you to tell me what the hell goes on around here. She can remain."

We all sighed in relief.

"If she doesn't get in the way of anything, California." he said.

He stared at Cal who had his head down.

"CALIFORNIA!"

He shot his head up and stared at the director.

"Yes, SIR!" he replied.

The Director nodded and left. They kept quiet for a few minutes and I walked back outside to the Puma. I took my pocket knife from the car and examined it. I didn't know what for, just wanted to I guess. I put it away and walked back to find the guys gone, so I went to my room instead. I put the knife in my bedside drawer and sat on my bed. I kind of felt like I was waiting for something, or someone. I ignored the thought and decided to rest up my stamina. I later woke up in the middle of the night and looked at the clock.

11:38.

I sat up in bed and stretched out my arms and legs a bit. My door then opened and I took out a gun and aimed. It was Cal.

"Cal.?" I said lowering it down.

"You're awake?"

"Just woke up a few seconds ago."

Cal nodded and walked in. I sat down on my bed and sighed still tired.

"I'm sorry you had to see that." he later said.

"No, it's okay, I'm used to it..." my voiced trailed off realizing what I just said.

Cal looked at me in full concern. I looked at Cal and then the floor. He then took my hand and curled his hand with mine and slightly squeezed it.

"It's not okay Angel." he said. "You didn't deserve to see that."

"Cal..."

I was cut off by Cal putting his finger on my mouth. I looked at him and he smiled. I slightly smiled and he hugged me. His strong arms around me. I felt again safe, secure, sure that he would never let go. I hugged him back and he kissed my forehead. He then took me and layed down on the bed with me. He pulled over the covers and looked at me.

"What?" I asked.

"Nothing." he said. "Just looking at how beautiful you are."

I blushed and turned over not wanting him to see me turn red. I felt him wrap his arms around my chest and pull me closer. He kissed my neck and pulled some strands away from my face.

"Goodnight beautiful." he whispered.

"Goodnight Michael." I said.

I slept better than I've done in a long time. It felt good to have someone there when I wake up. He was already awake when I opened my eyes and was greeted with a kiss on my nose.

"Morning Sunshine, how did you sleep?"

"Better." I said. "Thanks you."

He hugged me then released sitting on the edge, putting on his shirt. I sat up and looked in the open drawer next to me. I looked at the chip confused.

"Cal?"

"Yeah?"

"What is this?"

I pointed to the chip.

"It's your Mercenary AI chip." Cal said a bit concerned.

"What's a Mercenary?" I asked.

Cal looked at me wide eyed.

"You don't remember Angel?"

"Oh, right. Sorry." I said blushing a bit.

"Are you starting to forget?" he asked.

I shrugged. He looked at me with a very concerned expression.

"What?" I asked.

Cal looked down and the floor and then slipped his shirt on. I then realised what he was thinking.

"Michael, I would never forget you!" I said.

"What if you do?" he challenged.

"I love you more than anyone Michael, I would never forget a moment."

He smiled and kissed me.

"Thanks for that." he said.

He left and I stood there staring after him. Thoughts started flowing through my mind like a hurricane.

Would I forget?

If I did, what would happen?

Would I lose him?

How would I react?

I started to cry a bit and kneeled on the floor.

"I can't forget, I can't forget, I can't forget." I repeated to myself.

I tried to calm down but everything so far has been some pain from memories and old "friends" and "allies". I looked at my helm then thought for a moment. I got up and grabbed my armour and set down my helm as I quickly brushed my hair on the right side as glazed over my shaved side with the dark blue swirls that were growing out. I still had my five ear piercings, eyebrow piercing, and nose stud on my left side. I looked so different in my Mercenary look from when I just arrived there. I took out the piercings and put them in the drawer with the AI chip. I decided to put my Mercenary things in as I started to slowly let go. I would never let go to one thing.

My memories.

"Don't forget." I said outloud.

I nodded when I was satisfied with taking out the piercings and headed to the training hall. I was ready.

To become a Freelancer.
