| chapter 15: teresa |

LISA

Immediately everyone turned to me. With an innocent look on my face I shrugged. 'Sorry?' I said, not really knowing what else to say.

Dawn looked at me and I saw the disbelief written all over her face. I gave her a glare, she just told me we had to flee from something and were sent up here with the Box. Clearly someone had tried to give one last warning.

'Explain,' Newt ordered.

I sighed and took a deep breath. 'Alright shanks, when I woke up in that elevator there was this voice, screaming. And at first I couldn't make out the words but slowly the words started to make sense. The voice told me that I had to safe everyone.'

Dawn raised her eyebrows and I didn't even dare to look at Thomas and Newt so I coughed and went on. 'I fainted and when I woke up again, the voice was gone and I heard Dawn speaking. But after what she just told us, that we were sent up here by mistake, maybe someone had tried to give me a last warning or something.'

I shrugged when I saw all three of them looking at me like I had turned into a Griever. I sighed and put my hair behind my ears. 'Really guys, I know it's weird but I can't tell something else. This is the truth.'

'Alright.' Newt said and he took a deep breath. 'Dawn? Did you had anything like that happen?'

She shook her head, causing her hair to fall over her shoulders. 'No...'

Newt narrowed at her and she looked away, uncomfortable. I sighed, getting really tired by the growing tension between the two.

'Well, keep lookin' for it. Strain your mind, spend your free time wanderin' your thoughts, and think about this place or the shanks around here. Delve inside those brains of yours and seek it out. Try, for all our sakes.'

Dawn nodded.

'I will,' Thomas said as well, after Newt was done with his little speech. He closed his as he said so.

'Not now you dumb shuck.' Newt laughed and Dawn let out a giggle. I couldn't hold back a laugh either. 'I just meant do it from now on. Free time, meals, goin' to sleep at night, as you walk around, train, work. Tell me anything that seems even remotely familiar. Got it?' By that last line he also looked at Dawn and me.

'Yeah got it.' Thomas said.

Dawn nodded slowly and I gave a nod as well, not really knowing what else to do.

'Good that. To begin, we better go see someone.'

'Who?' Thomas asked although I could read of his face that he already knew.

'The girl. I want you three too look at her till your eyes bleed, see if somethin' gets triggered in those shuck brains of yours.' Newt gathered his lunch trash and stood up. 'Then I want Tommy to tell me every word Alby said to you,' Newt said, and I couldn't help it to feel a bit curious at what had happened inside the Homestead.

Dawn, Thomas and I stood up and I brushed the dirt from my jeans.

'Okay.' Thomas said, but not without a sigh.

We started walking towards the Homestead. Dawn was next to me while staring at the ground with a frown on her face. She was thinking about something, but I couldn't risk to ask her about it without the boys hearing us.

'If all else fails,' Newt said before he opened the door to the room of the girl. 'We'll send ya to the Grievers, get ya stung so you can go through the Changing. We need your memories.'

Thomas laughed but Newt wasn't smiling at all. I felt my inside freeze and saw Dawn's face turning pale.

Newt gave her a short gaze. 'And I'll force you to tell me everything.'

She opened her mouth as if she wanted to tell him everything now, but then she closed it again.

We entered the room and my eyes wondered over to the girl. She looked really healthy for someone in coma.

Clint was by her side, giving her water.

'Hey Clint.' Newt said like he had been here lots of times. 'She surviving?'

'Yeah,' Clint answered. 'She's doing fine, though she talks in her sleep all the time. We think she'll wake up soon.'

'Have you been writin' down every word she says?' Newt asked.

Clint nodded. 'Most of it's impossible to understand. But yeah when we did.'

Newt pointed at a notepad on the nightstand. 'Give me an example.'

I raised my eyebrows, getting curious.

'Well, the same thing she said when we pulled her out of the Box, about things changing. Other stuff about the Creators and how 'it all has to end. And uh...' Clint looked at Thomas.

'It's okay they can hear whatever I hear.' Newt assured Clint.

'Well...I can't make it all out, but...' Clint looked at Thomas again. 'She keeps saying his name over and over.'

The look on Newt's face was almost triumphant. 'Thanks Clint. Get us a report of all that, okay?'

Clint nodded and left the room.

'Pull up a chair,' Newt said as he sat on the edge of the bed. Thomas took a chair, as did I, and Dawn took place on the ground. 'Anything ring a bell?' Newt asked. 'Anything at all?'

Thomas kept on staring with an intense look at the girl.

Dawn and I shared a smirk but remained silent. Newt would kill us if we didn't.

'I do know her.' Thomas admitted after a long silence.

Newt stood up and Dawn raised her eyebrows. 'What? Who is she?'

'No idea, but something clicked-I know her from somewhere.' Thomas rubbed his eyes, looking utterly frustraded.

'Well keep bloody thinkin', don't lose it. Concentrate.' Newt commanded.

'I'm trying, so shut up.' Thomas closed his eyes and shook his head in frustration.

This was almost ironic. We barely knew ourselves and now we had to figure out who some girl in a coma could be.

'I just don't-' Thomas cutt himself off and suddenly jumped out of his chair.

A startled gasp left my lips as I turned to look at him.

'What's wrong?' Newt asked. 'Did ya remember somethin'?'

Thomas ignored him, looked around in confusion and then back at the girl.

'Are you alright?' Dawn asked slowly.

Thomas nodded but looked far away with his thoughts. 'I...' He sat back down. 'Did anyone of you say something before I stood up?'

'No,' Newt answered, looking with a frown at Thomas.

'Oh...I just thought I heard something, I don't know. Maybe it was in my head. Did...she say something?'

'Thomas nobody said anything,' Dawn whispered.

'What did you hear Tommy?' Newt asked.

'I...I swear I heard a name. Teresa.'

'Teresa? No, I didn't hear that. Must've sprung loose from your bloody memory blocks! That's her name, Tommy. Teresa. Has to be.'

Thomas looked really uncomfortable. 'It was...I swear I heard it. But in my mind, man. I can't explain it.' Suddenly he shivered before walking as far away as he possibly could from the bed, knocking over a lamp causing it to fall into pieces.

'What's bloody wrong with you?' Newt asked, almost screaming.

'She's...she's freakin' talking to me. In my head. She just said my name!'

'You're not making any sense, Thomas,' I told him, standing up from my chair. 'Just calm down alright.'

'I swear!' He yelled. 'I'm hearing her voice in my head-or something...it's not really a voice...'

What the shuck was he talking about?

'Tommy sit your butt down. What are you bloody talking about?'

'Newt, I'm serious. It's not really a voice but it is.'

I frowned as he suddenly put his hands on his ears and squeezed his eyes shut.

'Thomas what's happening?' Dawn asked, worry spreading through her voice.

He didn't answer and stumbled towards the door before yanking it open and running away.

Dawn and Newt ran to window, looking outside. 'He's going into the Maze.' Dawn said with a worried frown on her face.

'He's turning shucking mental,' I whispered, feeling totally dazed.

It was slowly turning dark in the Glade and I was sitting against the Homestead. Leaning my head against the wood, looking at the sky. This day had been crazy and I had a lot to think about. Everything I knew about this place, which wasn't much to begin with, hadn't given me any clues to a possible exit. These boys had been locked up here for two years, so I hadn't expected to find anything so fast but I had hoped for at least a little clue.

What I did know now was me being here was a mistake. I was never suppose to come here. So I couldn't help it but to wonder how my presence affected everything that was going on around here. Multiple people told us things were changing, so what if I was the cause of all of that? Or maybe a part of it.

I let out a deep sign and was about to stand up when a shadow fell over me. Without having to look up I knew who was standing before me.

'Well, if it isn't king runner himself,' I mumbled and stood up.

Minho his eyes twinkled with amusement. 'What did you call me?'

I shot him a long glare. 'Don't get used to it.'

He just laughed. 'So, what can I help you with?' I asked him while making my way towards the kitchen for dinner.

He raised his eyebrows with genuine surprise. 'I thought I'd made it quite clear.'

I shot him a confused glare. 'Made what clear?'

'We're going to be punching each other again.'

I let out a groan. 'I thought that was a one time thing.'

Minho shook his head, looking annoyingly amused. 'Oh no no, we're going to be punching until you no longer need it.'

I crossed my arms, feeling amused and irritated at the same time. 'So you're, what, my therapist now?'

He seemed to consider it for a while and I chewed on my lip while watching the handsome expression on his face. Then he nodded. 'You can say that, sucking therapist it is then.'

I gave him a small smile before making my way after him into the Homestead.
