Chapter 9 : Anger Against Trust.
Free was on his way to Lui's room, still thinking about what he would say. Trust. He had to have it for the boy and the boy had to have it for him.
He arrived and stood behind the door, hearing how objects were smashing in all directions against the wall inside. He didn't know if it was better to go in or not. Lui looked angry and he might get hurt. But that wasn't what he was worried about, so he took his courage in both hands and entered.
A vase arrived in his direction, he quickly moved away from there and the object broke against the door. The blond then looked towards the blue-haired boy. He looked frustrated, he was giving off only anger and bad emotions.
"What's wrong with you?" asked Free seriously.
"You don't need to know! Get out of here before something happens to you!"
"I'm not leaving until I know."
"You're a big jerk, Free!" shouted Lui at him.
"And why am I?"
"You're really looking for trouble at the wrong time!"
"I worry, doesn't it show?"
Lui laughed, "Haha, are you worried, seriously? You're always looking with those emotionless eyes, how do you expect me to know!?"
"You just have to trust me, that's all."
"What if I don't want to, huh?! Trust is not given like that. You can't trust someone just because they want to protect you!"
"What are you getting at?"
"I've never liked betrayal!"
"And?"
"And what? I realize after so many years that the one who was like my mother was actually a traitor!" shouted Lui, even more angry. He kept telling himself, now, that he had been a fool to trust the counselor.
"People can hide behind a mask, you know? But not everyone does."
"And do you?" asked Lui, raising an eyebrow. "You want to protect me, that's what you say, right?" He received a nod from Free. "But how long will you have that in mind? Maybe you want to earn my trust, and then betray me later. It would have been a lot different from all the other people you've killed. Here I will suffer sorrow that you left me alone, to my loneliness. "
"You're being too dramatic. I won't do that." said Free, trying to calm the atmosphere. "I didn't leave you alive for nothing. If I wanted to kill you, I would have done it right away, the first time we met."
"I don't believe you."
Free growled, "And why don't you? If it's trust, I don't see why you wouldn't accept me."
"I don't want to trust anyone again, especially since that person might kill me."
"I'm not capable of that."
"But I don't believe you, Free! Understand! I'm not ready to give you my trust yet!"
"But when will you be?!"
"Maybe never." said Lui, lowering his eyes. "Get out of here, I don't want to see you anymore for now." He turned around, his back to Free.
The blond tried to change his mind, without success. "But-"
"Get the hell out of here!!!"
The blond decided to leave, seeing that Lui didn't want to hear anything from him. He didn't feel good inside. He would have wanted it to be different. He went to the room that served as kitchen and living room.
Valt and Shu were there. "Well? How was it?" the red-eyed boy asked.
"I guess, not good." said Free as he went to join himself on the couch.
"Could we have more details?" said Valt.
Free explained everything to them. Valt could have guessed. He already knew how Lui behaved. He had learned a lot from Lui living with him. His dryness with those who were not close to him. Cold and icy, able to create enough authority for someone of his size. He had to help Free, he knew that the two would have to fight together one day. He had discovered a prophecy in a grimoire in the palace. A prince and a monster allying against a mad king. He figured that Lui and Free were connected by fate. He got up and went to Lui's room.
"Where are you going?" asked Shu.
"To see Lui. I need to talk to him."
Shu said nothing and Free just watched him go. "He might have better luck talking to Him than I do."
"Valt knows Lui and the two trust each other. There's hope." said Shu.
Free nodded his head.
Valt, for his part, arrived near Lui's room. He didn't hear anything, unlike Free. He thought there was a chance that everything would be quiet.
He opened the door and found Lui lying on the bed with his eyes closed.
Valt went over to him and sat down behind him. He remained in silence for a while, letting the peace and quiet last as long as he could.
Lui wasn't asleep, he could feel Valt's presence. "What do you want?" he asked with his eyes still closed.
"Me? Well..." began Valt. "Free arrived near us and he was not well. I came to see you to... Examine the situation and see how you were doing. "
"You saw me so you can leave."
"Hey man, what's with all the hate, huh?"
"I'm not saying that with hate, I'm just saying what you need to know."
"You don't trust Free, am I wrong?" Lui nodded. "But why?"
"It's not easy to explain, Valt. I didn't know Free the way we both did. I need time."
"I understand, but I know it's not right for that." Lui looked at him. "I'm sure it is... If the counselor hadn't betrayed us, you might have trusted Free sooner."
"Do you think so?"
"Yes, I'm sure I do. Free isn't evil, what he says is the truth. He hurt you, I understand your resentment. But listen to your heart, my friend. You know that deep down you want to be with him. But something inside you refuses to let Free pass into you and you must let that feeling go. "
"I don't want Free." said Lui, turning his head. They were already face to face during the conversation.
"Hey, Lui. You don't have to let that fear get to you."
"I'm not afraid." said Lui.
"Then what do you feel for him? Friendship like the two of us?"
"What I feel... I don't know..."
"You're not mad at him, are you?" Lui shook his head. "Hm..." He thought for a few moments and then smiled sideways at his friend. The white dragon raised an eyebrow in confusion at the expression Valt gave him, "You wouldn't be... In love...?"
Lui was taken by surprise and widened his eyes. "You're sick, Valt! How could I fall in love with a monster!?"
"I don't know. It's just a thought that popped into my head but don't lie. You feel something like that for him."
"No."
"Lui. I know you're hiding something from me."
"I'm not hiding anything. I don't feel anything for him."
"You're lying."
"I'm not lying."
Valt grabbed him by the collar and shook him. "Hey, stop hiding behind that pride and ice cream! I know how you feel about him, I'm just trying to help you both improve your relationship so don't make me make this situation more complicated!!! Do you get it!? "
"I... "Lui looked down." I don't know what to say. I don't know what to feel... " he confessed.
"You should still talk with him. You both have things to talk about but first... "Lui looked at him." You should go to bed. You need to rest your head and your thoughts. Your mind is disturbed. "
"I don't need sleep. "
"Do you really think so? " Lui looked away. Valt smiled." I knew it, come on, I'll go to bed too. We'll see each other tomorrow and try to work out the issues between the two of you. "
Lui nodded. It was already dark. Valt went out and said good night to him. Shu and Free had gone out at night. They were watching for intruders in the territory and feeding at the same time.
The night passed and the day ended.
End of the chapter. Thanks for the reading.
