Somebody I Knew
We walk down the street hand in hand
And I look at you by my side
That long black hair, those enchanting eyes
Swept back old memories, clear in my mind
I remember when we first crossed paths
As sophomores in high school
You weren't like any other girl
Which is why I drew close to you
You never tried then, nor do you try now
To grab the attention of every passing guy
But still your spark jolted me
A million volts to my life.
You made me smile, you made me laugh
Your joy illuminated the whole town
But soon it became dark, for dawn to never come
As your family was moving out
The rainbow in the sky, turned to grey ash
But I knew I had to forget you
I got a degree, I got a job
But I never forgot that girl from my high school
One day I walked past an open theatre
When a stunning voice brought me to a halt
She released waves of tranquil over my mind
With utmost passion from the depths of her heart.
She finished her serenade and opened her eyes
Oh! What an applause did everyone throw
I stared at her, and that very moment
I got the same jolt I felt, about a million years ago
Yes, she was my first love
That luminous smile, That curly black hair
I met her backstage, and she said
"Why, I know you! You're an old school friend!"
I opened up my thumping heart
That was bubbling to burst forth
And the tears that graced her vivacious eyes
Made my entire life feel its worth
Today as we walk down the street, hand in hand
And I look at you by my side
I knew I've found a precious jewel,
Whose value no one can decide
