chapter 38
On Monday
Japan
Setsuna was sipping her coffee, typing away on her keyboard, waiting for Momo to get to work to start the day. Setsuna looked at the clock and frowned.
Setsuna: She's late; Magneto, let her not be drunk again. I do not need a crying, drunk baby momo right now.
*Setsuna said In a whining tone as she grabbed her phone and called her boss,
Momo:hello?
Setsuna: You don't sound drunk, so that's a good sign. Where are you? You're an hour late, and you have so much paperwork to do.
Momo: Uh, yeah, about that
*A tick mark appeared on Setsuna's face as she knew her excuse was going to piss her off.*
Setsuna:I don't care what excuse you have; get your ass over here now.
Momo:I uh. Sort of can't; it's kind of impossible to make it to work for...the next couple of days.
Setsuna:Oh, I'm sure I'm going to love this. Alright, I'll bite. Why not?
Momo: Well, you know how my daughter spent a couple of semesters in Paris, France? Well, I kind of decided to stay an extra day, so... I'm still in Paris. Can you do my work for me? Really? Thanks for the best!!
Momo hung up, leaving Setsuna there alone with a mountain of paperwork. Setsuna took a deep breath; after that didn't work, she took another one, and then a few big ragged breaths as a worker came to her.
Emma: Setsu, where's Yaoyorozu? The investor meeting is about to start.
Emma flinched when Setsuna broke her phone with the chips falling on the floor. Setsuna's hand started to bleed, but she didn't react as she slowly moved her head and looked at a terrified Emma.
Setsuna:I see.... Tell them I'll be there in a minute. I need to... fix my hand.
Setsuna forced a smile that terrified Emma to her very core as she ran away crying.
Emma:r...right away!!
Back in France
Momo was whisling happily as she drove Eri to her therapy session.
Eri:mommy...
Eri said a misty eye that made Momo's heart drop to her stomach.
Momo: Yes, honey, what's wrong?!
Eri:oh um...never....nevermind...
Momo: No, no, please tell me what's wrong, honey.
Momo parked the car and looked at Eri, who was looking down at her feet; she even sniffled a little.
Eri: It's just... well, you're leaving soon. Can't we spend time together instead of going to therapy? I really want to spend the day with my mom.
Momo saw a tear fall from Eri's face, and she was hooked. Momo hugged her daughter tightly.
Momo: Of course, honey, whatever you want!
*Momo couldn't see, but Eri was grinning ear to ear. When she let go of the hug, Eri went back with a sad, almost crying face as she gave Momo a bright smile.
Eri: Thanks, mom...
Momo: Of course, we're in Paris; let's do some shopping!!
Scene change
Isabela:Mirabel is in the bathroom; she'll see you in a minute.
Chloe:thank you
*Chloe turned around, seeing a pissed-off moody teenager in Eri with her arms crossed and an ashamed, embarrassed-looking momo yaoyorozu. Since the very first shop they went to, Chloe was there buying clothes, and she scolded momo for half an hour straight in public. Chloe huffed and sat down.
Chloe: You best believe I'm telling Izuku about this.
Both mother and daughter whined loudly.
But Chloe was having none of it; they ruined her shopping day, and now they were both going to suffer.
Chloe: And you really? You're her mother; you should be above her manipulation! This is just ridiculous—utterly ridiculous!
Momo: My baby was crying!
Chloe:eri.truth.now.
*Chloe said coldly, holding her hand out. Eri grumpled and gave Chloe something. Momo looked and had a completely betrayed look.*
Chloe: A crying stick. You will do anything to get out of therapy, huh?
Eri: Because I don't need it, I haven't cut myself since I got caught, and I'm fine!
Chloe: Kid, even if your father is going to therapy, you have no excuse; if he needs it, so do you. And you call that fine?
*Chloe said, pointing to Eri's wrists, which were in a constant state of redness with all the scratching she'd done. Eri growled at her and hid her arms with her hoodie. Momo looked at her daughter, extremely worried, just as she was about to say something. Isabela came back out.
Isabela: Eri, Mirabel will see you now.
*Eri sighed She got up and walked to see the doctor, who was writing on her notepad without even looking at her.
Mirabel: Hello Eri, please sit down and we can begin.
Eri grumpled but did as she was told. Mirabel finished and looked at Eri with a small smirk.
Mirabel: It seems you couldn't escape me again, so sorry about that. So tell me, how was your week?
Eri: It was fine. I made some new friends, and my parents took me to the amusement park.
Mirabel: How nice, so was Miss Asui there?
Eri: Yes, she was there, but she didn't come to the amusement park with us; she decided to let me go with my family.
Eri rolled her eyes at the sound of the click on Mirabel's pen as she began to write.
Mirabel, so you don't consider her family?
Eri:I didn't say that.
Mirabel: But you meant it. Remember, whatever you tell me will stay with me.
Eri sighed and rested on the couch. She didn't talk for a moment, just letting herself collect her thoughts on one tsuyu asui.
Eri:I... no, I don't see her as family. I see her as a woman who, even if I hate to admit it, my dad loves and makes him happy.
Mirabel, how long has it been since you found out Miss Asui was in a relationship with your father?
Eri: It's been 1 year and, like, 3 months.
Mirabel, then it's perfectly natural to feel this way. Over time, you'll learn to accept Tsuyu as a part of your life and a part of your father's life.
Eri: That doesn't mean I have to like it...
Mirabel: You never said you had to like it, but it's the truth you now live in.
Eri, can we change the subject?
Mirabel: Of course, let's talk about the girl, Satsuki Asui.
Eri groaned loud enough that Momo and Chloe could hear it outside.
Eri, why do we have to talk about her? She's in military school and out of my life; that's all that matters.
Mirabel: She's been your best friend at one point, yes?
Eri, did you even listen to me?
Mirabel:I tuned in and out; now answer the question.
Eri: Yes, we met in like middle school while my dad was in jail. We liked the draw and became fast friends. It also didn't hurt that I used to hate my father as much as Satsuki, and we would talk trash about him.
Eri said, looking down in self-hatred and frustration at her younger self.
Mirabel, I see i must've hurt when she started to bully you.
Eri:I... It did a lot, but as I grew up, she stayed stagnant in her hatred.
Mirabel: A bit of calling the kettle black there, Eri.
Eri: I'm here to fix that, aren't I?
Mirabel: No, you're here because your parents told you to be here. From what I've been seeing, you're a girl filled with self-hatred, and I'm going to try my best to fix that, so those arms of yours aren't so red.
Eri crossed her arms to hide the aftereffects of her withdrawal.
Eri: Can't you just don't give me some medications or something?
Mirabel; I could, and it would be so much easier, but I'm not going to do that. You and I are going to work together to help you be in a better state of mind. Now let's continue this time. Tell me some good moments you've had with Satsuki Asui.
Meanwhile in Greece
*It ends not with thunder but with a whimper. That's how Nejire felt this morning as they're her and Tamaki having breakfast. They weren't talking, but Nejire was fine with that as under the table, their hands were locked with each other, not wanting to let go.
Nejire: It's a real sunny day.
Tamaki: Yeah, real sunny...
*The door knocked, making Nejire flinch and sigh while looking at her phone.*
Nejire: That should be my Uber guess. Guess this is it, huh?
Tamaki:yeah....
*Tamaki and Nejire got up and walked. Tamaki helped put Nejire's bags on the trunk. He turned around just in time for Nejire to give her a peck on the lips. Tamaki chuckled softly as his hair covered his eyes.
Tamaki: You know goodbyes aren't forever.
Tamaki gave her a smile that didn't reach his eyes as they gave each other one last hug.
Nejire: Then goodbye, Tamaki. I love you.
Tamaki: yeah...
Tamaki hugged Nejire tighter, hiding his face in her hair.
Tamaki:I love you too...
Tamaki whispered softly, but Nejire heard it. Nejire let go of the embrace and gave him a small wave before climbing inside the car. Tamaki watched it drive away; he didn't dare move until the car was completely out of sight. Once he did, he sighed and went back inside to get ready for work.
Scene change
*Nejire took a breath after a month of pure, clean beach air to finally breathe the air of Japan full of smoke and gas. It made Nejire already miss Greece.*
Chauffeur: Excuse me, Miss Nejire Hado?
Nejire:eh? Oh, yes, how can I help you?
Chauffeur: I'm here to take you to the Bakugo law firm. Masaru Bakugo is expecting you.
Nejire: Yes, for my divorce, of course. Let's better deal with this now than later.
*The worker grabbed her suitcase and started walking with Nejire following.*
Chauffeur: Of course, ma'am, right this way.
Scene change
Nejire walked inside Masaru's office, and her eyes widen a little seeing Midoriya there. Izuku turned around and saw Nejire.
Izuku: Ah, nejire hado, welcome; please take a seat.
