chapter 23
The next morning
The Yaoyorozu family
Eri woke up groggily from the nock on the door.
Momo: Hey, are you up?!
Eri:I am now...
Eri muttered, moving her head around. Momo, being a mother with no sense of privacy, opened the door without shame.
Eri, please come in and make yourself at home.
Momo: This is my home, honey pie. Now up up, it's going to be a long day.
Momo said, keeping the forced smile. Eri noticed Momo glancing around the room, making her sigh.
Eri: I only had one box cutter, mother. I don't have any more.
Momo flinched and rubbed her arm, giving a very forced laugh.
Momo:I don't know what you're talking about, sweetie. I believe you now come on, shower and breakfast.
Momo walked off quickly, leaving Eri there alone. Eri sighed and got out of bed, scratching her wrist, feeling as if small ants were crawling around in there.
Eri: She is a horrible liar...
Eri muttered before grabbing her towel and going to her bathroom.
Meanwhile, with Momo
Kyoka: Your freaking out
Momo: I am not freaking out.
Kyoka: You are totally freaking out.
We see them in the kitchen. Momo was cooking Eri's favorite foods while Kyoka stared at her at the table. Once Kyoka heard what was going on with Eri, they put their little fight on hold. Kyoka took another sip of her coffee as Momo placed the huge stack of French toasts filled with vanilla cream on the table.
Kyoka, you are completely freaking out.
Momo, are you going to help me with breakfast or are you just going to annoy me and drink coffee?
Kyoka: "Your awful coffee or lifting a finger?
Kyoka took a long, obnoxious slurp, making Momo grow a tick mark.
Momo, your an ass, you know that?
*The slurping continued. Momo scoffed and walked back to the kitchen. With a sigh, Kyoka got up and started helping her with the fruit salad.*
Kyoka: It's going to be ok.
Momo: Of course it's going to be ok. Why? Because I'm going to make it okay, I'll have to juggle a few things, but I'll be here more for her.
Kyoka: And the company?
Momo, fuck the company; my daughter means more than that place. I'll think of a stand-in later.
Kyoka: You know your father is going to be pissed.
Momo flinched and almost cut herself when cutting the oranges.
Momo: I'll deal with it; I just can't think about that now, ok?
Kyoka: Fine, but do me a favor.
Momo:what?
Kyoka:to breathe in
Momo sighed and took a deep breath, letting the air stay in her lungs for a few seconds and letting her heart slow down its rapid drum-like beating.
Kyoka:and breathe out
Momo breathes out. She repeated the process a few more times before feeling a little bit calmer.
Kyoka: You can be here more, but that's not going to help with the public or her school. Tsuyu Asui was right; you know what's the right thing to do.
Momo hugged herself as her eyes started to get watery.
Momo: I don't want my baby to be so far away.
*Momo sniffles a little while Kyoka rubs her back. She felt for Momo; she really did, but Kyoka knows full well that life just stinks sometimes.
Kyoka: You know as well as I do that this is the right thing to do. Look at the bright side: you'll work from Tuesday to Thursday, Friday to Monday, and you'll be in Paris with your daughter.
Momo: You mean 12 hours on a flight on Friday and another 12 hours back on Monday? I'll only be with her for 2 full days, and I'll have to share that with Izuku and Tsuyu.
Kyoka: I thought things were good between you guys.
Momo: It is; it's just... I don't know...
Momo sighed and then placed her forced smile again, hearing Eri walking to the table.
Eri: Hello Aunty, it's been a while.
Kyoka: Hey little tune, yeah, I know I've been busy with... stuff.
Eri: Moving back with that bastard?
Kyoka frowned and then glared at Momo, who didn't even look affected.
Momo: I'm not going to apologize for calling him that.
Momo walked to the table with the bowl and placed it on the table. Kyoka took a breath.
Kyoka "Not the time nor the place, just calm down."
*Kyoka walked to the table soon enough. The 3 females started to eat in peace and silence. Kyoka was looking at Momo, waiting for her to start. When she was looking down, actively avoiding the issue, Kyoka kicked her under the table. Momo yelled and glared at Kyoka, who glared back and signaled to Eri.
Momo: Ejem, umm, honey pie...
Eri:yes?
Momo:...h.. how's the French toast? Ow!!
Kyoka kicked her again, this time harder. Eri looked at them weirdly, then shrugged.
Eri: Not bad, although why do I only have a spoon?
Momo: The knifes are all dirty?
Momo said awkwardly, while Eri just rolled her eyes and kept eating.
Eri:I'm not going to use a knife to... Do that; there are too many teeth on the blade.
Momo: That's nice to know.
Kyoka, how do you know that?
Eri just shrugged and kept eating. Momo said she was a little pale as the image of her daughter cutting herself with a knife made her go from pale to a little green.
Momo: OK, changing the subject to France! How do you feel about France?
Eri: Um, I mean Paris is very pretty, I guess?
Eri was even more confused as Momo started to nervously nod her head.
Momo: Good, good, and um, you know how I put you in a French class as an extracurricular?
Eri: I mean, yeah, but I barely remember any of it.
Momo, oh, I'm sure you're just being modest, so um, you like French food?
Eri: OK, what's going on?
Eri said in a bored tone. Normally she would be ok with her mother being a bit... well, her mother, but today it annoyed her a little more than normal. Momo took a deep breath before looking at her daughter.
Momo: Well, me and your father were thinking, ummm, oh dear, it might do you some good to study in France for a semester or two.
*Eri stopped eating; she put her spoon down and looked at her mother.*
Eri: So you want me to leave?
Momo:what?! No!! Nononono, of course not!
Momo jumped and hugged her daughter tightly.
Momo: It's just... well, your father and I thought that leaving Japan for a while might be good for your mental health, but not for ever, just until things cool down over here, and you won't be alone. Of course, you won't be alone. Me and your father will come to visit every weekend. And I'll be talking to your friends families to convince them to let them go to Paris with you, s you'll be able to have a normal high school life!
*Momo let go of Eri giving her an awkward smile; Kyoka just looked at Momo with a dull look.*
Kyoka: " 'I only had one cup of coffee before you came here, my ass."
Eri looked down at her food and started to play with it; it made Momo get more nervous.
Eri: I hate this...
Kyoka: Sorry, kid, but it's for your own good. Come on, who knows, you might have a French romance over there?
Eri: Yeah, that totally makes up for my mother treating me differently.
Momo flinched and looked somewhat ashamed. Only somewhat*
Momo: Well, I'm sorry, honey, but things are different now. Now that I know the truth, I'm not just going to act like everything is just fine and that things need to change in order for them to get better.
*Momo finally did something calm and kissed Eri's little horn*
Momo: and I want things to change for the better, so please don't fight this. I promise you'll love Paris, ok?
Eri: I'll.... I'll try to keep an open mind...
Eri muttered; she didn't smile, and Momo didn't expect her to. This was a very big change in Eri's life, and Momo knew that. Momo sat down, and they finished eating.
Eri, I'm going to go to my room until dad gets here.
Momo: Okay, honey, I'll call you when he does.
Eri got up and walked away. Once Momo heard the door close, she took a huge, painful sigh and slumped down.
Momo: This is only the first day...
Kyoka: Yeah. Things are going to get a lot worse.
Momo gave a tired glare at Kyoka, who had finished her meal.
Momo: and you know how?
Kyoka: Gee, I don't know. Maybe because Midoriya and your daughter weren't the only ones who got bullied? Do you remember my old nickname? "Useless earrings?"
Momo groaned; she did not need this right now.
Momo;sorry ok? Just... I don't even know what to say anymore.
Meanwhile, with Eri
She was angry, she was frustrated, and more importantly, she needed her fix. The last time she cut herself was weeks ago, before her dad promised her to go to the father-daughter dance. Her mood was so good that she didn't touch that book, but now she would kill for it as the ants kept crawling. Eri scratched her wrist as she looked around and remembered what she did when she left the box cutter at her dad's house. She looked at the TV before sighing.
Eri, right, the stupid cámaras...
Eri muttered as she scratched a bit harder, leaving the wrist a little red. She took a big frustrated groan before plopping herself on her bed and just taking a nap.
