"We're safe"

~One year later~

Sun streamed through the makeshift window in mine and Thomas's shack, the breeze gently making the pieces of fabric that were drapes flow slightly. My eyes fluttered open, but then squinted as they were met with the light. I yawned as I opened them fully before looking over my shoulder.

"I don't know what I expected." I chuckled as I saw that Thomas was already up and therefore not beside me. I sat up and stretched out, groaning slightly. I looked down as my stomach grumbled.

"I know, I know, you're hungry, give me a chance." I chuckled, talking to my five-month pregnant bump as I rested a hand against it. I stood up and got my shoes on before walking out onto the beach. Immediately, the sea's breeze gently hit me in the face, making me close my eyes and smile. After all, it had become my favourite part of the day. I placed a hand on my small bump as I walked through the safe haven, smiling as I was greeted by people.

"Y/N!" I looked up and smiled as I saw Brenda in the distance.

"You've started to show!" she shouted, making me laugh and nod.

"Five months and counting." I yelled back, making her smile as she walked on. I chuckled to myself as I walked into the breakfast shack and looked around.

"Morning, greenie." Minho smiled at me as I sat at the table that him and Newt were at.

"We've been out of the maze for nearly three years, and yet you still call me that." I smiled, leaning back and resting a hand against my bump.

"Yeah, it used to piss Thomas off to no end, so it's now a fun little nickname for both of you." He admitted, smirking.

"I'll take it." I chuckled, making him laugh.

"So, you got any movement yet?" Newt asked.

"A little. I can feel her shift every so often." I nodded. Minho and Newt looked at each other.

"Her? How do you know that it's a girl?" Minho asked.

"Well, I don't, but one of my only memories I have of my mom is when she used to tell me that when she was pregnant with me, she always craved watermelon, and when she was pregnant with my brother, she always craved apples. Guess what I've been constantly craving since I got pregnant?" I scoffed.

"Watermelon." Minho nodded.

"Exactly." I smiled, making the guys chuckle.

"Airtight logic, that." Newt nodded, making me return it.

"Speaking of my baby, where's Thomas? I haven't seen him yet this morning." I spoke.

"Vince gave himself and Thomas the morning off to make the crib, so they're in Vince's shack." Minho replied.

"I know where I'm going, then." I nodded as I stood up.

"See you guys later." I spoke as I started to leave the shack.

"Bye, greenie!" Minho shouted after me, laughing as I held my middle finger up at him and making me smile to myself. I walked to Vince's shack and smiled as I stood at the doorway, just watching.

"Can I have some more vine, please?" Thomas asked, holding out his hand as he held together two pieces of bamboo.

"You got it." Vince nodded, handing him the vine. Thomas took it and weaved it in between the pieces, joining them together. Vince looked up and smiled as he saw me.

"Thomas, we have a visitor." He spoke. Thomas looked up and smiled.

"Morning, you." He smiled, standing up.

"Hey." I chuckled.

"How you feeling?" he asked as he walked to me and gently placed a hand against my bump.

"I'm good. Still craving watermelon." I smiled.

"My god. This baby knows what it wants." He chuckled, making me return it as I looked at the crib, made out of bamboo and vines.

"I know that it's not much, you apparently used to get thousand-dollar cribs that would sing to the baby, would get it to sleep, they'd practically raise the kid for you." He smiled, making me laugh.

"But I'm afraid that this is the best we can do." He nodded.

"It's perfect, Thomas." I smiled, running my hands over the bamboo.

"Alright." he chuckled.

"I better start my shift in the garden, it must already be midday." I spoke.

"Okay, no heavy lifting, though." Thomas spoke as he knelt down next to the crib again.

"I won't." I smiled, holding my bump as I left the shack.

The bell rang out, signalling that it was time for dinner. I walked to the fire and smiled at the guys as I sat next to Thomas and took his hand.

"Can I have everyone's attention, please?" Vince asked as he stood at the front of all of us.

"So, today is a very special day. Today is special, because it marks one year since we got here. Since we got to the safe haven." He smiled, making us all cheer.

"Now, I'm only a start-up. Our great friend, Thomas, is the main act tonight." He spoke, making the boys whoop and cheer. Thomas laughed as he stood up.

"Thank you for that lovely intro, as usual, Vince." He nodded, fiddling with his wedding ring.

"As Vince said, we've officially been here for a year. A year safe, from cranks, from the flare, and from WICKD." He nodded, making us return it.

"A lot has changed in that year. Personally, I've gone from constantly looking over my shoulder and always fighting to get my brothers and girlfriend to safety, to knowing that my brothers and my wife are safe, to knowing that I can finally live in peace with them, and soon, with our kid too." He smiled, making everyone cheer as they looked at me. I laughed, holding my bump.

"For that, I can thank everyone here. Firstly, Y/N, Minho, Newt and Frypan, for helping me get through everyday life in the maze and for helping me out. Then, to Jorge and Brenda, because if they wouldn't have let us escape with them, we'd have been taken away by WICKD, and would probably be dead. And then, to Vince and his team, because none of us would be here if it weren't for them." He nodded, making everyone murmur in agreement.

"So, here's to second chances, my brothers are safe. I'm a husband and a soon-to-be father. But most importantly, we're all safe. So, here's to second chances." He smiled, making everyone cheer and raise their glasses. I looked at him and smiled, making him wink and return the smile.

Thomas and I walked back into our shack, making me sigh as I took my shoes off.

"That speech was incredible, babe." I spoke, smiling at him. He returned it and gently wrapped his arms around my waist.

"I meant every word of it." He nodded before gently putting a hand against my hair and pressing his lips against my forehead.

"You know that I love you, don't you?" he mumbled. I looked up at him.

"Of course I do." I nodded. He gave me a small smile and looked down.

"I just, I know that we're out of the maze, and I know that we're all safe, but I'm still afraid that everything will be taken in an instant. I'm still afraid that WICKD's aircraft will suddenly appear on the horizon and will take you, and our baby, and the boys. I'm afraid that everything can still be snatched from me. From us." He nodded, a tear leaving his eye. I sighed and nodded, placing a hand against his cheek. He leant into my touch and put his hand over mine.

"I know that you're scared. So am I. But we are truly safe now. We killed Janson, and Teresa, and Ava. The flare took over the city, meaning no more WICKD. We're safe, babe, everyone is safe, I promise." I smiled. He returned it and gently kissed me before letting me go.

"It's been a long day." He chuckled as he pulled his top over his head and climbed into our bed.

"It has been." I nodded, climbing in next to him and resting my head on his chest as he wrapped an arm around me.

"Goodnight. I love you more than you'll ever know." He whispered into my hair, making me smile.

"I love you too, Thomas." I mumbled, feeling safe in his arms as I let my eyes flutter shut and let his gentle heartbeat lull me to sleep.
