The greenie

Thomas's P.O.V

Thomas slowly opened his eyes but closed them immediately as they were met with the blinding morning sun.

"Fuck." He groaned, shielding them further with his arm. He could tell that it was one of the summer months, most likely June, due to the fact that the sun had been rising at five in the morning for the last couple months at least. Thomas opened his eyes again, this time fully, before looking around his small shack. He didn't know why he still looked around it every morning, unless the box had come up the day before, there'd be nothing new added. And the box hasn't come up in weeks. He had always put it down to liking the routine. After all, that was one of the only things that kept him sane in this place.

"Fucking hell." He groaned as he sat up, making the poor excuse for a blanket fall down his body further, exposing more of his naked torso. He stood up and wandered to the broken mirror that had come up in last month's box, the one everyone had voted on him having because he grew the most facial hair. He sighed as he scratched at his stubble.

"Should I shave? Nah." He chuckled, grabbing a t-shirt and throwing it over his shoulder as he wandered out of his shack and into the glade, which was already buzzing. Thomas had been wrong about the time. It wasn't five, it was six. Even so, life still started early in the glade.

"Oi, Thomas!" Thomas smiled as Winston called his name.

"Yeah?" he shouted back.

"Put on a shirt, no one wants to see your perfectly toned body, you're making the rest of us feel bad!" Winston yelled, making Thomas laugh.

"Nah, way too hot for that shit." Thomas retorted, making Winston chuckle and shake his head as he continued to dig in the garden. Thomas returned the chuckle, putting on his t-shirt as he walked into the meal shack.

"Morning, greenie." Minho smiled, knowing that Thomas hated that name.

"Fuck you." Thomas scoffed, making Minho laugh.

"You know, we said you could have that mirror for a reason." Newt spoke, nodding towards Thomas's developing beard. Thomas sighed and nodded as he cupped his chin.

"I know, I know. But it's just less hassle to let it grow out for a bit. Not to mention that my razor is now rusty, so if I cut myself, I'm as good as dead." He scoffed as he sat at the table that Newt and Minho were sat at.

"You sure you're not just keeping it because Teresa prefers you with a beard?" Minho smirked. Thomas's smile faltered at the sound of her name and he looked down.

"Then I should probably shave it off." He mumbled. Minho and Newt looked at each other.

"What even happened to you two? One minute, you're running off to each other's shacks every ten minutes, the next, you're only talking to each other when it's absolutely necessary. How did that happen?" Newt scoffed. Thomas sighed and shrugged.

"It just did. She did shit that I couldn't forgive her for. Simple as." He muttered.

"Okay, buddy." Minho nodded as he stood up.

"Use my razor if you want. It's not rusty yet." Minho spoke, patting Thomas on the shoulder. Thomas gave him a thankful smile and returned the pat as Minho passed him and left the shack.

"Who knew there could be so much drama in such an awful world?" Newt chuckled. Thomas  returned it as he stood from the table and left the shack too.

Thomas sat in the treehouse, looking over the glade and taking in the fresh air.

"May I join you?" Thomas looked towards the hatch and his smile dropped as Teresa appeared, smiling at him.

"No." he mumbled, turning his back to her. He heard her sigh.

"Tommy." His eyes widened as her hand rested on his shoulder.

"Get the fuck off me." He scoffed, batting her hand away.

"Jesus. Who pissed in your cornflakes?" she scoffed. He ignored her.

"Minho and Newt think we aren't together anymore. Why is that?" Teresa asked. Thomas looked at her over his shoulder.

"Because we're not." He scoffed. She sighed and looked down.

"Look, this is just a phase, we can work through this-."

"Don't you fucking get it?" he snapped, shooting up so that he was standing over her. She gulped and looked up at him.

"What you did was unforgivable. You could have gotten everyone in here fucking killed." He spat.

"But I didn't, did I? I did it for the good of the world, this shit is bigger than just us." She retorted, standing up too so they were face to face. Thomas scoffed and shook his head.

"You're wrong." He stated simply.

"Thomas!" Thomas looked over the fence of the treehouse to see Minho and Newt down below.

"The box has come up!" Minho shouted.

"I'll be down in a second!" Thomas responded before looking at Teresa.

"All I give a shit about is protecting the people in here. Well, all of the people except for you." He nodded, squinting his eyes. Teresa scoffed and nodded at him. He gave her one last scowl before moving to the hatch and climbing down the ladder.

"What supplies do we have this month?" Thomas asked, walking to Newt and Minho.

"We don't know, it's only just come up-."

"Guys, there's someone in the box!" Chuck yelled. Thomas's eyes widened as he looked at Newt and Minho.

"Let's see who the greenie is." Minho sighed. Thomas nodded as they ran to where the box was rising. It jolted to a halt and Thomas jumped down onto the top to open it. He swung the hatch open and his eyes widened.

"It's...it's...she's a girl." Chuck scoffed.

"It is." Thomas mumbled as he stared at the beautiful girl who was unconscious in the box. Her chocolate brown curls were spread out around her head, with one hand on her hair and the other resting against her stomach.

"Wow." Thomas whispered.

Y/N's P.O.V

"It's...it's...she's a girl."

"What?"

"Wow, she's pretty."

"Why are we getting another girl?"

"Guys, just step back, give her some space." My eyes slowly opened but I squinted immediately as they were met with the bright sun. I opened them again and my eyes widened as I was in some sort of box. I looked up and gulped as at least a dozen boys were stood there, staring down at me. I gasped as one jumped into the box and looked at me. I scrambled back as he moved forward.

"Hey, hey, you're okay. I'm not going to hurt you." He reassured, reaching a hand out to me. I gulped as I reached out my shaky one. He gave me a small smile as he took it in his.

"What's your name?" he asked.

"Y/N." I mumbled, making him nod.

"Okay, good. I'm-."

"Thomas." I stated. His eyes widened and he looked up at the other guys before looking back at me.

"How do you know that?" he mumbled. I gulped.

"I don't know." I admitted. Thomas sighed and nodded before looking up at the guys again.

"Minho, I'll push her up, and you grab her hands and pull her out." He spoke.

"Gotcha." The brunette nodded. Thomas returned it before looking at me.

"That's Minho. I'm going to push you up and he'll get you the rest of the way, okay?" he asked.

"Yeah." I nodded. He gave me a reassuring smile as he walked behind me. I gulped as he placed his hands on my hips.

"One, two, three." Thomas counted before pushing up on my hips, lifting me into the air. I raised my arms so my hands would be grabbed by the one called Minho. He pulled me up and out of the box.

"You okay, greenie?" he smiled.

"I think so." I gulped as Thomas pulled himself up onto the top of the box.

"Right, so you've met Minho, this is Newt." Thomas spoke, pointing his hand out to a blond boy.

"Nice to meet you." Newt smiled, his British accent similar to my own.

"And you." I nodded as I started to look around. My eyes widened as I saw the massive concrete walls that encased us.

"Where the fuck are we?" I scoffed.

"Well, Y/N," Thomas started.

"Welcome to the maze."

I sat on the bed in the shack that I'd been given, just letting it all sink in. Letting the fact that I was trapped in this place sink in. I sighed and instinctively shoved my hands into the pockets of my jacket. My eyes widened as my fingers brushed something cold. I pulled the object out of my pocket before opening my palm to reveal to myself what it was; a key. I looked at it, holding it up to the light. It didn't seem to be anything special, just an ordinary brass key.

"You okay?" I turned around to see Thomas stood at the doorway, giving me a small smile.

"I'm coping." I nodded. He returned it, wandering in as he looked at my hand.

"What you got there?" he asked.

"I don't know what it's for." I mumbled as I handed it to him. His eyebrows furrowed as he took it and stared at it.

"No, neither do I." he muttered before looking at me.

"Did you remember anything else?" he asked. I sighed and shook my head.

"How did you know my name?" he asked, taking a step closer to me and making me gulp.

"I don't know. I didn't even know it was you, I just...how do I explain this...it's almost as if I felt the urge to say it, as soon as I saw you." I sighed. He returned it and nodded.

"That's okay. Don't worry about it. Dinner is in an hour, by the campfire." He spoke.

"Thanks, Thomas." I replied.

"No problem." He smiled before turning to leave.

"Oh, and one last thing." He spoke, looking at me. I looked at him expectantly.

"You'll be okay. We'll look after you. I'll look after you." He nodded, looking into my eyes with his stunningly whiskey ones. I gave him a small smile.

"Thanks, Thomas. I really appreciate it." I spoke. He returned my smile and gave me a final nod before leaving my shack.
