The first night together

I stood at the entrance to the maze, waiting for Thomas and Minho to come back, like I always did.

"Oi." I turned around and smiled as Newt walked towards me, holding a water bottle.

"Thanks." I spoke, taking it from him and taking a drink.

"Can I ask, is there a reason that you wait for them to come back every day?" he chuckled. I shrugged and took a sip of the water.

"I just like to know that they're safe. And it's always nice to see Thomas smile when he sees me." I admitted.

"I wonder why." Newt smirked. I looked at him.

"Is there something that you'd like to share with the class, Newt?" I scoffed. He chuckled and looked at me.

"I just, everyone knows how you feel about each other, and there's no shame in admitting that you wait here to make sure that the guy you're in love with gets back safely." He spoke. My eyes widened and I choked on the water as I looked at him.

"What the fuck makes you think that I'm in love with him?" I scoffed, trying to hide my blushing cheeks.

"It's obvious, Y/N. You can tell when someone is in love. And you, as well as him, are in love." He smiled, gently nudging me with his elbow.

"Fuck off, Downtown Abbey." I chuckled, making him laugh. I looked up and my eyes widened slightly as Thomas and Minho appeared in the maze and started running towards us. Thomas's lips curled into a smile as he saw me, making me blush and return it.

"Hey, guys." Minho smiled as they reached us.

"Hey. How was the search?" Newt asked. Thomas and Minho sighed as he looked at each other.

"Still nothing." Thomas mumbled as we started to walk. My eyes widened slightly and I smiled to myself as Thomas curled his arm around my back to cup my waist as we walked.

"I'm sure you'll find something eventually. There must be a way out of this place." I nodded.

"If there is, we'll find it. It's just a matter of when." Minho sighed. I returned it before my eyes drifted towards the maze. My eyebrows furrowed as instead of the entrance closing, it was staying open.

"Thomas, is that meant to happen?" I asked, making him look at the maze. His face drained of its colour.

"No, no it's not." He shook his head before starting to run towards the maze. I followed after him.

"Guys!" he yelled, alerting the others to the problem. Minho and Newt ran towards us.

"What's happening?" Minho asked.

"The doors aren't closing." Thomas shook his head. Newt and Minho looked towards the maze.

"Shit." Newt mumbled. I looked towards the maze and my heart dropped as I saw grievers slowly emerging from the sides and heading towards us. I looked at Thomas to see his eyes widening.

"Everyone, run!" he yelled before grabbing my wrist and pulling me away. We ran behind Minho and Newt as fast as we could. I gulped as I started to hear screams behind me. I stopped and turned around.

"Y/N, we have to go, come on." Thomas urged.

"No, we have to help them." I gulped.

"We're more use to them alive and hidden than trying to save them and dying in the process." He nodded. I sighed and returned it. He grabbed my wrist again before pulling me into the long grass. My eyes widened as I could no longer see him. I gulped as I ran through the long grass and looked around.

"Shit!" I whispered as I couldn't see anyone.

"Hello?" I spoke as loud as I could without being found by a griever. I screamed as a hand was put over my mouth and I was pulled down as the culprit's arm wrapped around my waist.

"Hey, hey, it's me, you're okay." Thomas whispered in my ear, making me sigh in relief. I looked around and gulped as Minho and Newt were also there. Minho looked at me and raised his finger to his lips, making me nod. I winced slightly as we heard another scream, making Minho look at Newt and Thomas.

"There'll be nothing left." Newt whispered, making Minho sigh and shake his head. Thomas gently removed his hand from my mouth but kept his arms around me, comforting me. We heard one more scream before everything went silent. Thomas looked at the others as we heard the grievers screeching and scuttling back into the maze. I breathed a sigh of relief as we heard the entrance start to close.

"Sounds like they're gone." Newt spoke as he slowly stood up and looked around.

"Yeah, we're good." He nodded, prompting Minho and Thomas to stand up. Thomas extended his hand to me, making me give him a thanking smile as I took it and pulled myself up. We emerged out of the long grass, along with everyone else. I gulped as virtually everything was wrecked and unsalvageable.

"My shack is gone." I sighed, looking at the planks of broken wood and bamboo that used to be my shack.

"You can share mine if you like." Thomas mumbled. I looked at him.

"What?" I gulped. He returned it and looked at me timidly through his brown locks.

"I've got the biggest bed in the camp. You can share it if you want." He spoke, giving me a small smile as I tried to hide my own.

"Yeah, I will. Thanks, Thomas." I spoke. He gave me a small smile as he looked around.

"What the fuck?!" I turned around and gulped as Gally came storming towards us.

"Here we go." Newt sighed.

"You did this! We've just lost everything because of you!" he yelled, pointing at me. My eyes widened.

"You cannot be fucking serious, Gally." Thomas scoffed, standing in between me and him.

"How do you explain it, then?! She arrives, and then suddenly the fucking maze doesn't shut, allowing grievers to kill four Gladers and destroy the entire fucking camp!" he shouted.

"How do you explain an actual way that she could have possibly pulled that off, huh?" Thomas snapped. Gally clenched his jaw.

"That's right, there isn't one. She had nothing to do with this, Gally. None of us did." He spat. Gally clenched his jaw again before walking away.

"That dude needs fucking therapy." Minho scoffed.

"We all do, mate." Newt returned.

"For now, all of us need to clean this up, okay? We need to get stuff back in order." Thomas nodded, making Minho and Newt return it as they started to clean stuff up.

"Thomas." I spoke, making him look at me.

"Thank you." I nodded.

"Of course. I'd do anything for you." He admitted, giving me a small smile as he took my hand. I returned his smile as he gently let go of my hand and started to clean up.

"Night everyone." I yawned as Thomas and I stood from the fire and started to head towards Thomas's hut. It was the first night that we'd be sleeping together and I had to say, I was nervous. I knew that it was the last thing I should have been thinking about in this place, and that he was probably only doing it to be nice, but over the three months I'd been here, I'd grown more and more fond of him each day, to the point that I was falling in love with him. I snapped out of it as I wandered into the shack, Thomas shutting the straw door behind me.

"I'm so tired that I could fall asleep right here." Thomas chuckled as he lit the lantern by his bed.

"Same." I agreed, making him laugh as he pulled his top over his head.

"I know that this is so immature and not what I should be thinking about, considering we're stuck in the maze, but...would you mind turning around?" I gulped.

"Of course. And it's not immature, I understand." He reassured before turning around so that his bare back was facing me. I felt my throat dry as I stared at his toned back for a moment before turning around. I pulled my top over my head, leaving me in my shorts and the crappy excuse for a bra that whoever put us here had given me before sending me in. I pulled one of Thomas's t shirts over my head, breathing in his scent before turning around.

"You good?" Thomas asked, back still turned to me.

"I'm good." I nodded. He looked over his shoulder at me and his eyes widened slightly as he turned around.

"Wow. You look good in my clothes." He smiled.

"Thanks." I chuckled. He returned it as I climbed into bed, Thomas following me. We lay down and he positioned the covers so that it was just below my chest and half way down his torso, showing me his chest and a bit of his happy trail. I looked at the straw and mud ceiling as Thomas rested one hand on his stomach and the other behind his head.

"Thomas." I mumbled, making him look at me.

"Hmm?" he prompted me to go on.

"Do you think that we'll ever get out of here?" I whispered, looking at him. He sighed, looking at my lips for a second before looking back at my eyes.

"Yeah. Course we will. There has to be a way out of this place. And I'll get you out if it's the last thing I do." He admitted before looking back at the ceiling. I smiled at what he had said before placing a hand on his cheek to hold his face in place as I kissed the other cheek. He looked at me and gave me a small smile.

"What was that for?" he mumbled. I shrugged.

"Goodnight, Thomas." I whispered before rolling over so that my back was facing him.

"Goodnight, Y/N." he responded, making me smile as I let my eyes flutter shut.

Thomas's P.O.V

"Night, everyone." Y/N yawned as her and Thomas and stood from the fire and started to head towards his shack. Thomas felt like an idiot, since he felt more nervous sleeping with Y/N for the first time than he did risking his life every day by running the maze. He wasn't surprised, though. After all, he'd been growing more and more fond of her every day to the point now where he was sure that he was in love with her. Well, he couldn't be sure since he hadn't felt love in a very long time but he thought that what he was feeling was love. He snapped out of it as Y/N walked into the shack and he shut the straw door behind her.

"I'm so tired that I could fall asleep right here." Thomas chuckled as he lit the lantern by his bed.

"Same." Y/N agreed, making him laugh as he pulled his top over his head.

"I know that this is so immature and not what I should be thinking about, considering we're stuck in the maze, but...would you mind turning around?" She gulped.

"Of course. And it's not immature, I understand." He reassured before turning around so that his back was turned to her. He waited until he heard her turn around to timidly look over his shoulder. His eyes widened slightly as she pulled her top over her head, leaving her in a skin coloured bra. Damn, she was beautiful. Her long brown locks tumbled down her back, curling perfectly around the bra clasp. Thomas gulped. The only girl that he'd ever seen like this before was Teresa, but she was different. Thomas had never felt the same about Teresa as he felt with Y/N. Y/N pulled one of his shirts over her head, making him go weak at the knees at the sight of her in his clothing. He turned back around as she started to turn around.

"You good?" Thomas asked.

"I'm good." Y/N spoke. He looked over his shoulder at her and his eyes widened slightly as he turned around.

"Wow. You look good in my clothes." He smiled.

"Thanks." She chuckled. He returned it as she climbed into bed, him following her. They lay down and he positioned the covers so that it was just below her chest and half way down his torso, showing his chest and a bit of his happy trail. Thomas stared at the ceiling as he rested one hand on his stomach and the other behind his head.

"Thomas." Y/N mumbled, making him look at her.

"Hmm?" he prompted for her to go on.

"Do you think that we'll ever get out of here?" she whispered, looking at him. He sighed, looking at her beautiful lips for a second before looking back at her gorgeous hazel eyes.

"Yeah. Course we will. There has to be a way out of this place. And I'll get you out if it's the last thing I do." He admitted before looking back at the ceiling. Shit, he thought as soon as he said that. Had he just given away that he loved her? He couldn't be sure. Y/N smiled before placing a hand on his cheek to hold his face in place as she kissed the other cheek. Butterflies immediately filled Thomas's stomach as he looked at her and gave her a small smile.

"What was that for?" he mumbled. She shrugged.

"Goodnight, Thomas." Y/N whispered before rolling over so that her back was facing him.

"Goodnight, Y/N." he responded, staring at her back as her breathing slowed, telling him that she was asleep. He looked back at the ceiling and smiled to himself. Y/N had just kissed him. Sure, it was only a cheek kiss, but it was a start. Thomas's eyebrows furrowed as his shack door opened. His eyes widened as Teresa stumbled in, holding a nearly empty Mason jar of moonshine.

"Teresa, what are you doing here?" he gulped as he sat up. Teresa narrowed her eyes at him.

"She doesn't know yet, does she? She doesn't know that you've fucked me." She giggled. His eyes widened as he stood from the bed, trying not to wake Y/N.

"That was a long time ago, Teresa. A long time ago." He mumbled.

"Was it, though? Because as I seem to remember, the last time we had sex was...oh yes...a week before that bitch appeared in the box." She slurred.

"Don't call her that." He muttered.

"It's true, Thomas." She spat.

"You know why I ended it. The secrets you kept almost killed all of us." He snapped in return.

"Secrets?" she giggled.

"Don't pull that shit on me, Teresa. You know exactly what I mean." He warned. She giggled again and shook her head before stumbling out of the shack. Thomas sighed and ran a hand through his hair before looking back at Y/N.
